Day 1, Roto-rooter tech, George, was very polite/professional.  He cabled toilet and main line to find and thought he had cleared a blockage.
Day 2, Roto-rooter tech, John Brooks, cabled toilet line which was still blocked, and again thought we had cleared the problem.
Day 3, Monday July 21, 2014, Roto-rooter tech, Matthew or Matt, came to our home because we were still experiencing some kind of blockage in the toilet line.  My husband was the only person home when Matthew arrived and he had already begun to assess the problem.  I joined them when I got home from work to hear Matthew saying that he was absolutely sure the problem was not a blockage but that the inside of a cast-iron y-shaped pipe was completely corroded and collapsed inside.  He stated that although the cast-iron looked fine on the outside he was positive it was rusted and collapsed on the inside.  My husband suggested cutting a piece of the pipe above the cast-iron and taking a look inside.  Matthew stated that we didn't want to cut any pipes.  Matthew began explaining that to fix our problem he would have to jack-hammer the bathroom floor up above this pipe and go through the wall to remove and replace this cast-iron piece with a completely different configured pipe.  He stated this would entail getting permits from the city of Gahanna and would cost between $4000 and $6000.  I then told Matthew that because of the extensive work the high cost that I was going to get a second opinion.  Matthew immediately stated, "If you want to get some 'Hill-Jack' plumber with no experience in here to mess things up that's just fine!"  He then went on to repeat at least 3 times with a sarcastic
half laugh, "Sorry you're upset that something's broke" to which I replied that I was not upset that something was "broke," I was not convinced that what he was explaining was the problem.  Matthew continued to be rude, so much so that I told him he needed to leave my home.  To which he replied, "I will!  This conversation is OVER!"  I then said I was going upstairs to call the main Roto-rooter number to have someone else work on this (there is a guarantee so we were trying to get things fixed by this company because we had already paid). Matthew interrupted me and yelled, "This conversation is over -- why are you still talking?"  I told him again to leave my home.  A call to Roto-rooter to advise of this situation was never returned.

Joshua Rhinehart was very professional, thorough and explained everything.  He ran the clean out three times and reported that he didn't find any tree roots, just slush.  He recommended having a camera inspect, just to be sure.  Happy with service, would recommend.

I called Rotor Rooter and made an appointment. They never showed up or called. I called and rescheduled for the next day and again they never showed or called to let me know that they could not make the appointment. I finally called to cancel all together after finding another company, and explained why I was cancelling. The response was "ok" and then he hung up on me. No apology or explanation for what may have happened. I would NEVER consider using Rotor Rooter again and will let others know of their inexcusable and unprofessional behavior.

He came on time at 8 am for our 8-10 am window we had. He analyzed the situation and found I needed a new disposal.  It was in a very tight spot but he was able to get that in efficiently.  He fixed it in a short period of time and tested it out for me as well.  He also gave some insight on what I could have done to damage the old one and gave some info to make this one work properly.  As an added bonus I had this drip downstairs and he checked them out for me but didn’t find anything wrong. He was very nice and polite.

I observed a leak in my basement, a clog which caused the kitchen sinks to back up into the bathtub, and also needed all shower and tub fixtures replaced in my bathroom which where very  corroded and  leaking as well. I called Roto Rooter.
Jamie Carter was the service gentleman, who arrived on time, introduced himself, and   was pleasant, polite, and clean.
After Jamie observed all of my problems, he pointed out another small leak, in the basement  that i had not noticed.  He told me that the pipes in the basement would need to be replaced, and also  he could rebuild the shower tub fixtures instead of replacing them, which I was VERY  HAPPY about, and at that point , I  knew that he was my   ANGLE that I prayed for.  I say that because, I didn't ask Jamie about rebuilding the shower and tub fixtures, he just told me that on his own, when other contractors gave me estimates for  REPLACING the shower and tub fixtures, even when I asked about rebuilding them,  they said NO, that I would have to replace the whole thing, which would involved cutting my bathroom tile out, or cutting a larger access  hole under my kitchen cabinet including a 2 x 4, which didn't seam right.  This would have been more business for them, but another problem for me!
Jamie was very hard working and about his business and did whatever it took to ensure all work performed was working correctly and completed with out any leaks.
As far as I'm concerned, I'll tell everyone that i know who is having a plumbing problem to call Roto Rooter, and ask for Jamie Carter.

I contacted the provider at 11:30 AM.  The first thing I asked was if they had someone free that day that could make a repair.  They told me they would call back between 1PM and 3PM with a service time.  They did not call until 2:40 PM and said they were tied up and would give us a call back.  They called back an hour later (3:40 PM) and said they would have to reschedule.  NOT acceptible on a Friday for a repair service to do this to a customer.  If they were tied up for the day, all they had to do was let me know that at 11:30 AM when I initially made the call and I would have called another provider.  Then I received an e-mail from them stating I had cancelled the service.  I will NEVER use Roto-Rooter again.  Not dependible!

Admittedly a lot of this is my own fault because I didn't check out other options first. I had used Roto Rooter about a year and a half previous and it had been a much better experience. This time was a disaster. We had a full septic tank and were told they would be out next day to pump it at 9am. 9am came and went (no calls). I called and was told it would be 1pm. 1pm came and went (no calls). I called and was told it would be 3pm. They showed up and pumped the tank at a rate $100 higher than a year ago. Then after pumping the main line from the house was still clogged. So ANOTHER $200 (took 10 minutes) to clear that. Horribly expensive, a wasted day for me and unprofessional service. I have used them a number of times in the past and things were a little more customer friendly. Never again. I'll be consulting Angie next time. Save yourself some headaches and avoid these people.

Called the provider to schedule them for excavation of a tree root from our septic system.  Scheduled them for Saturday morning between 8-10am.  A dispatcher called that morning to inform us that the service technician had a "family emergency" that morning and could not be here until  between noon and 3 that afternoon.  We didn't have any plans but to work around the house that day, so no big deal to us.  We were okay with the re-scheduling but that the family emergency excuse was a little suspicious.  The technician shows up (finally!!!) and he was nice enough, though he did not seem to know a lot about septic systems.  Once we started the process of trying to locate all of the leach bed system, we noticed the water level in the tank was extremely high.  The technician recommended that we get the tank emptied immediately after we noticed that water may be ready to back up into the house at any moment.  The technician was nice enough to contact a driver from Roto-Rooter to see if he would be willing to come out to our area on a Saturday (by this time...afternoon).  Yes, the driver was willing to do it for a cost of $575.00, but it would be a couple of hours before he could be out to our area.  We agreed to everything... the cost and the wait time only after trying to call a few companies in our area and striking out.  Two and a half hours later we get another call from another dispatcher saying that the driver has experienced a "family emergency" and would not be able to complete the service call today.  My husband insisted that someone that someone be out the very next day to pump our overflowing tank.  A few minutes later, another dispatcher calls and has yet another excuse as to why their driver cannot come out again tomorrow.  To sum it up... after a third dispatcher call arguing with us as to why the service call cannot be completed, we just hung up the phone.  We made a few more phone calls from the phone book this time.  (Remember the phone book!)  Found a gentleman in Lancaster that offered 24 hour emergency service.  I would never use Roto Rooter for anything ever again, not even a hair clog in my drain.  They may have another "family emergency!"

It was good. We were satisfied with how they did the job but I was not the one that was here when they did it. They told us that they were going to come out during a certain time period and they had to move it back a day.

We have had problems with one specific downspout putting water into our basement during storms. The downspout is awkwardly located and we had had another plumber look at it but be unable to come up with any solutions. The Rotorooter team came back a number of times, with different guys and different tools, cameras, etc and eventually figured out the problem was roots in an old tile pipe quite far out from our house. They needed to go into the pipes with a camera several times to figure this out, and also had to use a jetter to clear the pipes enough to send the camera in. Overall, the work took several days and a number of people and different kinds of equipment. We were impressed that Rotorooter had such a wide array of tools at their disposal, especially the cameras. This was especially helpful as a previous plumber had been unable to determine what was going on with the pipes.

I can't believe the estimate I got for the water heater!  $1600 - $1800 when not even 11 years ago RotoRooter replaced the hot water tank for $750.  What are they thinking!!!  No way will I pay this kind of money and I've used RotoRooter for years on smaller jobs.  I've always thought their prices were high, but they were convenient and did a good job.

We called them at 11 in the morning on Memorial day and said someone would be out between 1:00-2:00. At 1:05 he showed up and was nice as can be and I showed him the issue. He did a very good inspection of the area to find where the leak was. He said we needed to replace the valve. Another plumber previously told us that we would have to replace the entire toilet, which was not true. He told me to relax and he would take care of it. I asked when he could come back and fix it and he said he could do it that day. He went out and got a new toilet because we decided to replace it anyway, and he got the one we liked and fixed it at a very reasonable price with no overtime. He was very kind and we will ask to have him back again.

I believe his name was Tony, and I thought he was excellent.  He did a very thorough job, describing what he was doing at every step, and leaving everything spotless when he was finished.  He also fixed a kitchen faucet that had been leaking by taking it apart and putting 3 new washers in the assembly - and he didn't charge me for that service.  I was very impressed with his knowledge, ability to repair things and his friendliness.

I called for a quote to repair some plumbing problems we were having.  The lady that answered the phone (Vicky was her name) was very nice and personable.  Informing me of the company's complimentary, no-obligation trip fee to assess the problem, I agreed to have them send someone out.
The guy they sent seemed punctual and professional enough at first.  He commenced to check the main line drain via the pipe access in our yard, though he did so a bit slowly, often just staring in front of him several minutes claiming it'd likely be a big job.  My boyfriend came home during his inspection and told him about the problems he experienced when trying to fix the problem himself.  It was almost like a switch going off - the guy became quite snarky with him and began acting like he knew it all.
All of a sudden, he started adding to what he thought the problem was and quoted us a price of $400 an hour, which was to cover his time as well as bringing in a younger guy to do the actual work (he was a bit older and refused to even enter our crawlspace to inspect anything there, despite our problem being down there).  He also refused to provide a written quote, which was supposed to be part of the complimentary assessment.
We felt it pretty suspicious that he would quote such a high price without even inspecting the crawl space or providing anything in writing.  It seemed as though he didn't even want the job and we decided to not use their services - ever!  We called another company, who responded promptly and fixed the problem in less than a half hour, for less than Roto Rooter quoted us!

We had a clogged pipe that ran underground from the sump pump and down spouts to the street and water was backing up into our yard. The first plumber thought it was a problem in the collection area by the curb and thought that needed to be replaced, so he sent out someone to give us an estimate of cost (we had a coupon for the first visit that gave us $40 off, but iwas still pretty expensive at well over $200 just for his opinion. The estimator came out and did a telescopic examination under the sidewalk and the pipe was obviously clogged with roots there and probing couldn't go beyond that point. Must say the man was a talker - and I had places to go, but I felt he was thorough. His estimate was under $3000 and he said if they had to replace the sidewalk it would be about $1000 more. They were prompt, they fixedtheproblem by not replacing the old pipe, but by installing a new one alongside it and sealed their pipe together to prevent otherpossible problems and decrease the opportunity for root invasion with a 5 year guarantee. They had called out the city engineer and talked the city into allowing a cut in the curb so the water would actually drain into the street, not into the seep system along the inside of the curb, that obviously was not going to work in the long term between the original pipe being too small to drain the two yards sufficiently in a downpour and the invasion of roots in both pipe and collection area. Roto-Rooter trenched, bored under the sidewalk (thus not having to replace the sidewalk) and were able to cut the curb for proper drainage. The job seems to have been done efficiently (it only took a few hours) and I'm sure the materials used were of much higher quality than the standard sub-division issue we had had before. We were very satisfied with the work overall; however, the total cost was indeed nearly $4000 without repair of the sidewalk. The estimator had given me the "worst case scenario" in his written estimate, but I saw too late that he didn't stipulate that estimate to include replacing the sidewalk - which didn't need to be done in the end. Thus,, even with the 10% senior discount we ended up paying about $3400, we felt that we overpaid for the services, which seemed to me to be the original estimation under $3000 verbally that had been discussed. So, for that reason only , I have mixed feelings about  having Roto-Rooter do any further work at our home. I don't mind paying for something that needs to be done, and they certainly did what I consider to be a quality job, but in this case, for the time, effort and materials used, even renting the borer, etc. we both felt the cost was a little excessive and not truly represented in the first place. I admit it was my fault t I didn't catch that before signing, but having it be the "worst case scenario"  and then not needing to replace the sidewalk, I was surprised that it didn't fall under $3000. Work - excellent, Price - a little too high in our opinion even with the senior discount (which we appreciated)

Primary reason for blockage was not immediately evident; two different technicians (_______ and "Super Shawn") spent almost three hours combined working snakes in multiple starting points without success; once cause of problem was identified as corroded lateral line, field supervisor Rob Brady was able to arrange for an excavation and repair team ("Sarg" Robert and "Country Boy" Andrew) to come on site that same afternoon;  work went well and proceeded exactly as planned; once line was exposed, further corrosion was identified and an additional change order was written at a very reasonable price; Robert and Andrew stayed until after 10pm to complete the job and clean-up the area.

I was vey pleased with the rapid response and manner that was used to diagnose the root cause of the problem and propose solution(s).  Each element of the plan was fully explained and executed exactly as described.  All four young technicians demonstrated excellent knowledge, skill, and customer relations as did the field supervisor.  If plumbing services are needed again at my home, I will be calling this company again and asking for these technicians to be assigned to respond.  I am also recommending them to friends and neighbors.  Several neighbors observed the R-R trucks in front of my house for over twelve hours.

Disappointing experience.  Will not use them again.
Called them on a Saturday morning, as the toilet had clogged for the second time within a month.  The technician came out as scheduled and augered the commode.  He was nice, efficient, and cleaned up after himself.  It took him about 15 minutes to do the job.
He had me sign a waiver about possible scratching from the equipment, but stated that he'd never made scratches before and that I probably wouldn't care about the inside of the toilet anyway.  That was fine, I knew that is a possibility.  After he left I noticed many scratches in the bottom of the bowl.  Not a problem, as I had signed a waiver, but I was a little disappointed that it happened and he didn't mention it.
On Sunday morning March 24, the toilet nearly overflowed again.  Another technician came out that afternoon; no charge as they have a week-long guarantee.  Augered again, never mentioned the possibility of removing and resetting the toilet (he should have at least mentioned that, since clearly the previous day's work did not solve the problem).  He  assured me it was fixed, and left.  Took him about 10 minutes.  He was pleasant and courteous as well.
On Tuesday morning March 26 the toilet nearly overflowed yet again!  I called and asked to speak to a manager.  Never did get to speak to one, but did discuss the matter with an office worker.  She asked if I had been given the option of them removing, augering, and resetting the toilet for a (around $325, I think).  When I informed her I hadn't, she said that they could send someone out to do that and I could pay the difference.  I asked if I could use another coupon, since this would be the third visit and the option wasn't offered at the initial visit, but was informed that this was not likely.  No acknowledgement of mistakes on the company's part, or the fact that I've had to juggle schedule around due to the job not being done correctly the first time . . . or the second.
At first I scheduled a third appointment, but after further reflection decided to cancel and go with another plumbing company that I've used several times in the past (the only reason I didn't contact them in the first place is because it happened on a weekend and I wasn't sure they had emergency services).  It may cost me more money in the long run, for sure, but the peace of mind will be worth it.  The technicians are nice and courteous, but do not seem very knowledgeable, and the office staff do not seem to care much about the customer.

**3/27/14 update: I left my price "grade" at C, but did toy with a "D" after my experience with  the other company.  Roto Rooter originally quoted me $199 for the 15-minute augering job, but I paid $159 because I had a coupon.  My tried and true folks charge $109 (minus a $20 coupon) for the same job, and  removing/resetting the commode was over $100 less as well. Bottom line is lower cost for a better job.  Just thought it important to share.  Thanks.

Overall it was a good experience although a bit expensive for two drains to be snaked. If the kitchen sink could have waited I probably would have waited and used my regular plumber, but in a pinch, on a Sunday, it worked out great. Jared arrived an hour after I called, I explained what was wrong, he asked to look at the pipes in the basement to ensure he knew what he was dealing with. He wrapped up an hour and twenty minutes later with both sinks in working order.

What a relief to see that truck pull up. We had sewage in the  basement and we needed help fast ! I called a very nice , sympathetic person answered (Maria). She said they would have someone out within two hours. Our service technichian was on the way in about an hour. He called to let us know he was on the way. (Chris Hammond)
Our house is old with narrow doors. He had to take the door off to get his equipment through. He did it with ease !.
The old cap was hard to get off, but he kept trying until he got it.
He completed this job, with professional skill, great attitude and a smile the whole time. He reassured me (I was so worried about the cost and results). I felt confidence right away.
It works great ! Problem solved. I will not hesitate to call them again !
