"I was contracted to finish this basement into a one bedroom apartment with a bathroom and kitchen. The homeowner insisted that she buy all materials, and use ones that she had already had around the house. Until I received this review I was under the impression that the job went very well, as the home owner, and the drywall company she had hired complemented the work along the way. In regard to this review, many of these issues were outside our control. As the project progressed the homeowner was very adamant about cutting cost, at times even trying to trade things she had around the house in exchange for labor discounts. It was recommended to her that carpet be installed instead of tile because of the poor condition of the basement floor and she disagreed because she already had tile she planned to use and we were told to use it. The entry door was not replaced because the homeowner didn't have the money in her budget to buy a new one and we were told to "just make it so it will lock". This was also the case with the shower rod in the bathroom. With her design for the shower there were no in stock options for a rod and the homeowner decided she didn't want to spend more money on having one made. In regards to the trim work, we were contracted to install it only, and were not contracted to do any prep work or paint as the homeowner also insisted on doing it herself to save money. The kitchen cabinets for this project were also bought second hand (from someones old kitchen) and were not the proper cabinets for the layout she wanted. We did put light pencil lines on the wall in order to figure out how to make the cabinets she purchased work. The homeowner made the payments for this work as contracted with none of these complaints being brought up. The final payment on this job the check bounced and two weeks later she made the payment and still no complaints. It is unfortunate that this homeowner was not satisfied with our work, and we would have been more than happy to address her concerns had we been made aware of them at any time during or after the completion of the job."
