I went to Lowe's to buy a washer and dryer for my new house. Having just moved, I had a 10% off coupon that you get in the change of address packets. I chose an Electorlux washer and dryer which happened to be on sale. I informed the salesperson that I had the 10% off coupon, and she said that all I had to do was give it to the cashier and it would automatically deduct from the price.
Well, I wen to pay for the washer and dryer as well as some other supplies and the 10% was deducted off of everything but the washer and dryer. they got the store manager for me to talk to, who told me that the coupon can't be applied to sale items. Had I known that, I would've selected the near identical model for the same price that wasn't on sale. After much discussion, the store manager agreed to give me the 10% off on the washer and dryer I had bought. The washer and dryer I had were "returned" and then bought them again. This resulted in an extra $1600 being taken out of my bank account for a couple days until the refund was processed.
Somehow, during the time I made the original purchase and the time that the manager tried to reorder (about 20 minutes) the washer and dryer I had wanted sold out and was discontinued. So, the order was changed to the new model year washer and dryer with same features for the same price.
10 days later, I was called and told that the appliances were in and scheduled an installation date. A few hours later, I received a call from the original salesperson. Turns out, when the manager changed the order to the new model year appliances, instead of a washer and dryer, he ordered 2 dryers. So one dryer was "returned" and the washer was ordered (again, having an extra $800 pulled out of my account for a couple days until the refund was processed.)
Another 10 days later, I get the call saying that they have both the washer and dryer and want to deliver tomorrow. I told them that was fine as long as it was after 2pm. On the day of the delivery, I had not received any calls saying about what time they would be arriving. At 7pm, I called the store to get an update. They were unable to get a hold of the delivery people and said they would call me back when they heard from them. About 30 minutes later, the store called back saying they would be arriving sometime between 8:30p-9:00.
At 9:10p, they finally arrive. One of the dryer accessories I had ordered and was supposed to be delivered was not included for some reason. But everything necessary for the install was there. While they loaded in the washer and dryer, one of the delivery people said they had tried calling me but were getting a pre-recorded message stating that the number had been changed. Despite giving just my cell number to Lowe's, (which they had called everytime there was an update) the delivery crew somehow had my old home number in Virginia (I assume from when I ordered an appliance from a Lowe's down there several years ago.) Why they didn't bother to try the number the recording listed is beyond me. By 10pm, the installers were done. They started both the washer and dryer and say let it run once before using and they left. After about 10 minutes, we notice a large amount of water pouring out from underneath the washer. We quickly turned the washer off and mopped up. We initially thought that after all the headaches, we somehow got a faulty washer. But then we noticed that the install crew failed to hook up the drainage hose, so the water was just dumping on the floor. We hooked up the drainage hose ourselves and everything worked fine.
While I appreciate the effort of the salesperson and manager to keep me satisfied, the problems that occurred at every step of the process makes me hesitant to give them another shot for a big ticket item(s).
