Griffey Remodeling

Fantastic.  The process was easy, minimal disruption while the work was going on, very clean, and the end result looks great!  It's exactly what we envisioned when we started the project.  It turned out great.

My wife & I recently moved back to Columbus from St. Louis, Mo. We purchased a detached Condo that had a finshed basement area. Prior to us moving into our new home, we hired Griffey Remodeling to install a wet bar & fireplace in the finished basement area. Charlie Griffey did an excelent job helping us design the home improvements. Overall, his team performed quality work in comleting the project in a timely manner. The subcontractors Griffey Remodeling used were very professional. The project manager (Kevin Folk) paid great attentiion to detail & kept us informed. We were very satisfied with the quality of the work & felt the pricing was reasonable. Most of the work was performend while we were still in St. Louis. We felt very comfortable with them being on site without us present. If we have another project, we will use them again.

I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I suspect that if I'd shopped extensively I might have found a slightly lower price. What I would not have found was a company that I trusted both to plan and complete a terrific basement, without overcharging me or shorting on quality - and you get what you pay for. From the planning stage, when Charlie worked with my wife and I on our plans, to the final complete date twelve weeks after it was started, I have essentially no complaints. Both in its creative aspects (stonework that matches the outside of our house and will make our two year old think she lives ina castle when she gets a little older) and in the quality of the construction, I have nothing but good things to say. Even the speedbumps were swiftly and competently dealt with - when a problem with our humidifier caused a minor water spill, Charlie immediately sent his guys over to fix the problem, and when we noticed (weeks after the job was done and paid up) that a door didn't close right, it was fixed within a couple of days at no cost to us. One of the biggest problems in finding a contractor for a large job is knowing who to trust, both to *not* go over budget and to complete the work competently; I would endorse Griffey Remodeling without limitation.

My husband was the one who was facing them to obtain the entire quote.  They were very professional and prompt with submitting the quote.

They were very good. They were very professional and I would recommend them highly. They were responsive. They worked with me very well as far as making sure that we were satisfied and I think the quality and workmanship was very good. They were clean. They cleaned up themselves. It was pretty quick considering the amount of work that was done, I think it was done in a week or two. We were without a working kitchen for a week or two, which was manageable. It could have been six weeks or more.

From the initial meeting to the finished project, we were impressed with the attention to detail and the quality workmanship exhibited by this company.  Every attempt was made to accomodate our design specifications, even when we proposed changes to the original plan.  A design team was provided to us for assistance with cabinetry, countertop and lighting choices.  That was a huge help due to our busy schedule.  Every worker that entered our home was very respectful and took great care to avoid any damage to the existing wood flooring.  There were a few glitches, as there always are with a project of this size, but every issue was resolved quickly and to our satisfaction.  Company personnel were very approachable and responsive.  We plan to use this company again for a remodeling of our bathrooms.  They are honest, reliable, conscientious, and provide quality work.

We could not be happier.  After meeting with three different contractors, we had three completely different designs for the space. Mr. Griffey's design made the best use of the space in our opinion.  I was especially pleased that he was able to salvage and reuse much of the trim and one of the doors for the project.  This helps the new space blend in so well with the rest of the house.  Once the plans were drawn up, I was asked to select all of the finishes.  Mr. Griffey works with two designers who were a tremendous help during this process.  They met with me to see the space and talk a little about my vision/style.  They then brought samples to my house and we were able to make most all of the decisions from tile to lighting in one meeting.  Next, I met the project manager.  He maintained excellent communication with me from start to finish.  I always knew where we stood with the project.  He was always very responsive to any concerns I had.  In the end, the project was completed on time and within our budget.  We could not be happier with Griffey Remodeling and plan to contact them when we are ready to remodel our kitchen.

I called to get an estimate for having a load bearing wall opened up and installing a beam. I was told by the nice lady who answered the phone that our job was too small for them.

.Project went without a hitch. Even a problem with the sink install was solved by the two-man team, who stayed late to be sure it was completed as promised.

From start to finish, it was a pleasure working with this fine company.   It all starts with the owner, Charlie Griffey, who is  professional, fair-minded, trustworthy, very conscientious, a perfectionist (a most desibrable trait when you're paying someone to tear apart and rebuild your home - he wants it to be right), and also personable, easy to work with, and funny  -  a real necessity  because remodeling is very stressful for the homeowner and being able to have a good laugh in the midst of it all is most therapeutic!   Kevin, who managed the job day to day, also is great and easy to work with - he kept us posted on the work to be done, the time schedule, who to expect in the house on a given day, etc., which made things easier for us.  The main crew at our home was Larry and John.  They were there most days, often early in morning, yet they always respected our privacy - we felt very comfortable with them and they did great work   Charlie works with several companies on a regular basis for cabinets, countertops, flooring supplies, fixtures, etc.  All were reliable with high standards.  We extended the job as time went by and Charlie and Kevin were open to that and helped us think through these additions.    We had other estimates for this job, some lower, some hgher.  We did not go with the lower estimates because we believed them to be underpriced for what we wanted, either knowingly in a bid to get our business with costs to rise as the project progressed or because they did not have standards for the work at the level we wanted.  I would advise anyone to be careful about low bids for these reasons.   Also, some things always go wrong with these big remodeling jobs - you can (will) run into unexpected problems or delays - so you want to be working with someone with whom you can be frank and who is good at problem solving and adjusting the plan.  We are so happy with the results and marvel at the change!  We will hire Griffey Remodeling again and recommend them highy to anyone who wants quality work at fair price. 

The entire project from selecting a basement remodeling contractor and exploring the possibilities through execution and completion of the project is quite a lengthy process.  There are so many things that went exceedingly well, that I am attempting to share my experience by way of a top ten list.  Here are my top ten reasons why I am totally satisfied with Griffey Remodeling and why I would highly recommend this company:

1.  No surprises (except for pleasant ones)
There were no surprises for additional costs or something that was "not included".  We did make some changes and upgrades after signing the contract, but these were for features that were 100% optional with the costs clearly understood.

2.  Design ideas
Design is clearly a strength of Charlie Griffey.  Charlie had a vision for our basement far beyond what other contractors offered.  I was looking for a "wow factor" without spending too much.  Charlie provided "wow factor" design options with consideration for my project budget.

3.  Value
The value proposition is probably the most important aspect of any purchase.  Despite this project being "expensive", it was a good value.  Charlie did provide alternatives for a much lower cost, however, the project cost was driven by our choices.  I did get other estimates for my project and found Griffey Remodeling to be cost competitive as providing the best value especially given the quality of the materials, basement features and design.

4.  Attention to Detail
Charlie's attention to detail is amazing.  It seems important to Charlie that his design is well executed.  Getting it done right is more important than just getting it done.  Every brick, every tile, every beam was perfectly centered.  Care was taken to match materials with the rest of the house.  If something was not done just right, Charlie would have it fixed or done over.

5.  Experts on the Team
As a pleasent surprise, Charlie's team included various experts that enhanced the results of the project.  For example, Charlie's team included award winning decorators that assisted in the selection of the tile, brick, wainscoting, carpet, paint, lighting, etc. that made everyting work together.

6.  Easy to work with
Charlie was very patient while we made our decision and did not try to "hard sell" his proposal.  His communication was top notch and he was always willing to listen to our concerns and fully answer our questions in an affable manner.

7.  Professionalism
Every aspect of the project was handled in a professional manner.  We were confident that everything would be compliant with regulations and comfortable with Griffey Remodeling having access to our basement for the duration of the project.  The work on the project, except for certain specialty trades, was done by his own employees.

8.  Craftsmanship
One thing that really stands out is the fit and finish of the woodworking.  The project included the finishing framing of a lot of windows and doors, plus wainscoting, columns and wood ceiling.  The finish is impeccable.

9.  Oversight of the project
It was refreshing to be able to see work on the project progress and not have to be concerned about managing the results myself.  Charlie and his leads would thoroughly inspect the work to assure that it met their very high standards.  I never had to complain about anything.

10.  Customer Satisfaction
You get the feeling that customer satisfaction is very important to Griffey Remodeling.  They exceeded my expectation.

Our kitchen was in need of a complete makeover.  The transformation from before to after was amazing.  We were extremely pleased with the final product.  Charlie was easy to work with and very responsive throughout the process.

The job performed was superb. The attention to detail was great. All of the various workers were highly professional. And Charlie takes his customer service very seriously. He communicates well and without delay. We have several other projects around the house to be done in the future. We will definitely use Griffey Remodeling for them.

Their work turned out great! All of their subcontractors were very competent, and the design Charlie Griffey put together really impressed me. I truly think that he did a great job, I’d give him my recommendation.

They helped me know how to maximize the usage of my space and gave good suggestions.  He went above and beyond in terms of listening to what I wanted.  I felt like he did a great job of interacting with me.  I would say what I wanted and ask what he thought, I felt like he gave me honest feedback and discussed things to be aware of.  He gave me some things to use and I appreciated that.  What really stood out is that he never let it go.  He came out and met with me and did an excellent job of getting information from me.  Then he would follow up with me and say let's set up our next appointment.  He didn't just send things to me through email.  I really felt like he was really invested in getting the work.  I sat down with him at the show room and he had a much more detailed quote for me.  It was broken down with where we were spending the money. He went through it with me step by step.  He had his designer do a perspective drawing of what my kitchen would look like when it was finished.  This was all without charge when others wanted to charge 3%-5% for the drawing.  I hired him and he and the project manager are coming out Monday when the cabinets come in to prep.  I had to do research for how to pay a contractor and they were already on top of it and showed me what to expect.  It's part of the way he does business.  So far it's been very positive and the people who work for him have been very professional and friendly.  They've listened to me and everything has been very good so far.

Outstanding! Very cooperative as I slowly picked flooring and paint. The project manager checked with me periodically about process and always returned my emails and phone calls promptly. The men showed up on time and were very willing to follow my directions. No problems. I would use their services again.

I got several estimates to do extensive work to upgrade our kitchen and bathrooms. Griffey's estimate was by far the most expensive one, but I liked the professionalism that they displayed from start to finish. I liked the fact that Charlie took his time in analyzing and explaining the work involved and not pushing me in making a quick decision. Karl Long, Operations Manager, is knowledgeable, patient and attentive to details. We did a complete upgrade of the kitchen which involved new cabinets, floor, knocking down walls and ceiling and extensive plumbing and electrical work. Karl was onsite every day, supervising and delegating the work and kept us engaged and informed every step of the way. He is organized, responsive and extremely easy to work with. We had to make several changes along the way and in all cases, Karl was cooperative and helped us making the best choice based on price and quality. Overall, we are very pleased with Griffey company and the results of the work performed. we definitely recommend this company and will gladly use them again in future projects.

Loved the design process. Very attentive to our wants and needs and weren't hesitant to express their own opinions as to what would look and function best. Workers and subs were supurb. True craftsman and professionals. Loved the fact that Griffey used our old doors and trim in the redesign and have interior designers to help with tile, paint, lighting and window treatment selection.

The service was wonderful! From start to finish, they were punctual and great with answering our questions. We appreciated the quality follow up.

We had a kitchen that needed a partial remodel- called the company they came out and were on time and were willing to work with us. However, my husband did not want to move forward--he wanted to keep things the same. It was a mistake not to use this company.

I think he would have done just as good a job as the contractor I selected but his price was higher. He did an excellent job and I would have gone with him if I hadn't used the company that I did. I even got higher quotes than Griffey. The reason I didn't go with him was solely because of price. He was very professional, very punctual and very knowledgeable.

Excellent. We truly enjoyed working with Karl. He was very patient and made sure all of the work was of high quality. In a project this large, there were obviously a few hassles, but Karl always listened to our concerns and completed the job until it was to our satisfaction. They did a great job and we will use them for remodeling projects in the future.
