First, I must admit I am a volunteer at the Franklin County Dog Shelter so I am a little biased. But I thought I would let everyone know the shelter does more than adopt out dogs and rescue lost and stray dogs. They also have a pet store inside the new facility that benefits the shelter dogs.
They have toys and treats to spoil your puppy. T-shirts to show your support too. Proceeds help with medical care for stray dogs so they can be adopted out. It's a great program. So whether you are adapting a dog or not, you can visit the store and support a great cause.
Volunteer at the dog shelter too! It is great way to give back to the community.

Franklin County Dog Shelter had a nice selection of dogs and a very clean facility. They were pretty honest about what the issues might be and the history of the dog. She's a Miniature Pinscher. You can just go in and pick the dog out. She's already microchipped and spayed and we just paid $117. They were real slow on the response but again they got a lot of pets.

The puppy that I adopted had an upper respiratory infection. I was told that the puppy had been on antibiotics for several days. No one told me that she was still contagious. She ended up infecting my 14 year old dog. My older dog became very sick. I ended up spending over $ 500 to treat both dogs. The shelter staff knew that I had the 14 year old dog. I had brought her into the shelter to meet the puppy( the shelter staff insisted that I do this). If I had known that the puppy was still contagious, I would have waited several days before I brought her home. No one at the shelter suggested that I wait before I brought her home. I have e-mailed the shelter about my experience and I have completed an online survey. I have received no response from the shelter.
