"Much of what this customer says is accurate. This project had some challenges that were difficult to remedy quickly, but the company did work through each issue at our expense to produce a result that satisfied the client. We never like when customers loose faith in our team, and that occurred as minor problems piled up. We maintained communication with the customer with our plans for corrective action and held ourselves accountable to finishing strong. The Project Manager and project team has received the necessary training to prevent these problems from repeating themselves. We are sincerely sorry that our client was disappointed with their experience, but are pleased that their satisfaction with the end product met their expectations."
"I have made numerous attempts to inform Angie's List that this is not a member we did business with. This member is not in our client database, nor do we do window work of this nature, and the members address is out of our service area. While the report is not bad, it would be nice if Angie's List would do more than ask me to contact this member to let them know I don't have their contact information. Great going Angie. Thanks for wasting my time."
I wanted to install three hip dormers on my existing roof to create more storage space in the attic so I contacted the company. On 11/20 I spoke with Steve . The soonest that they could come out was going to be 12/3 so we set up an appointment. Steve gave me a ridiculous site-unseen price over the phone for the work, but I decided to have them come out anyways.
I planned to meet Steve at the house after work at 4:30 PM. He arrived at around 4:00 PM and I was not home. Rather than waiting in the car he knocked on the door and my wife (with a newborn son) had to entertain him for twenty minutes until I had arrived.
I showed Steve the space he came down about 10% on his price. He was clearly shooting from the hip on this one. He did offer to pass on any savings should it cost less after I give them 10% down for them to do the design. I told him he was out of the ball park by a factor of 2. He questioned where I had gotten my cost from. Being a professional engineer I had costed out the project myself and I obtained quotes from numerous other contractors as well. He demanded the names of other contractors, but I didn't have them handy.
I decided to give the job to another great contractor at about 40% of the Dave Fox cost. It turned out great. Don't get ripped off by this guy!
Update: I'm very disappointed to read the company's response to my review.. There is no confusion on my part. I simply told the truth that Angie's List requires. I hope that others will have a better experience. Good luck, Dave Fox Remodeling.
"Our Design Consultant did arrive early and notified the home owner that he was there and offered to wait in his car until the time of the appointment, but the Homeowner (wife) politely invited him inside to wait. When the husband arrived he reviewed the project with our Consultant. He was informed that we have done many dormers on homes at various investment levels and was provided a very rough investment range based on the vague initial information provided by the homeowner. The husband also said he was thinking of doing the finish work himself; which is something we are not a good fit for since we pull the permit and the final occupancy is dependent on our having completed the work. Our professional spent the time with he and his wife at no cost to them and provided valuable education. He was not provided with a quote for doing the work, as he decided not to invest in the design and cost analysis stage of researching their project. He decided to continue weighing his options and did not return our follow-up calls to see if additional assistance was required. I'm happy that he found a contractor to build his dormers to his satisfaction."
"In Hein site the design process may have been compromised from the beginning. The homeowner had an aggressive timeline for getting their project started and we were clear from the first meeting that it would be difficult to meet their expectation. Nearly 30 days from the initial meeting the client decided to proceed with planning; while keeping the same timeline. They were reminded that their preferred timeline was not realistic. We proceeded as requested and were able to meet with the client on a few occasions when they were in town and kept true to our timeline of having each step ready for their review. The design was fluid and did not capture the client’s excitement the first couple of presentations, but the team continued to work on revisions to refine the plan following excellent input from the client. The design process can be frustrating at times with such an involved project due to the number of moving parts, and the client was feeling the pressure of the clock to meet a Bexley architectural review meeting date without having a plan that was definitive. We are very sorry that the client decided to discontinue the design process and that they lost confidence in being able to arrive at the ideal solution. We appreciated the professionalism of the client and their feedback for understanding where we were missing the mark. We wish them the best in accomplishing their remodeling goal."
"We really enjoyed working with this customer and appreciate the referrals that have lead to additional work for our company."
"The Vice President contacted this customer to inform him that his Design Agreement would be returned in-full since he was not completely satisfied with his experience."
"Client communicated that they wanted to spend $30k, and was informed that that budget was not realistic for the entire scope of what they wanted to have remodeled, but it would cover some of what they were looking to complete. Bath and closet, family room updates, and egress were all part of the client's desired scope. Design Consultant was asked to proceed with designing the project to determine where costs would end up. The initial presentation revealed a total project investment in the $50k range. After seeing the full scope, the client increased the scope by requesting additional finishes such as cabinetry in the family room and a stone surround to the fireplace. Several days after the meeting the client e-mailed that the investment range was higher than they were comfortable with and requested that the scope be reduced. The Design Consultant made several attempts to reach the client to coordinate a follow-up meeting, but was unsuccessful in getting a date set with the client. The client was given plans, renderings, and specifications at the first meeting so we are not sure what else they are looking for. We are sorry that the client was unsatisfied with their experience, but we do feel that we handled the relationship the best we could under the circumstances. As a result of the client's Angie's List posting, the Design Consultant is contacting the client to come up with a peaceful resolution to their concern."
