The man who originally answered the phone didn't tell me that they had a pickup service.  When I called to confirm their address, another person answered the phone, and she told me it wasn't cold enough to tune the snow blower yet, they could hold it for me until it got cold enough, and if I waited for a month or so they would pick up the equipment, and drop it off back at the house for a nominal charge.  I had already loaded the snow blower in the back of the SUV...but decided to wait, and unloaded my gear. However, even though I wanted their services, they wouldn't schedule the pick up yet because they weren't in that season yet.  I gave them my name and contact information and asked them to call me when their season started to schedule a pick up.

About six weeks later I called to complain that they hadn't called me to schedule a pick up, a third person who answered the phone  apologized, and I scheduled a pick up. They picked up the gear within the two hour time period they committed to, and when the work was done they dropped off the gear.  They took charge of the loading and unloading of their truck, so I didn't have to lift anything.

The winter has been so mild that I haven't started up the snow blower yet, and the same is true for the lawn mower.  So I can't comment on the quality of the work yet, but I'm optimistic.

They do what they say they will do, but they do it their way, and on their schedule.

They were very upfront.  I called them in advance to find out pricing and timing.  They met my expectations; it was right what they said it would be.  The price was slightly more than I would have liked.  It was a good experience.

Overall, they were great.  Their price was good.  They were very friendly and worked hard.  They gave all the parts back to us, so we know they did the work.  They did it quickly.  We will use them again in the future.

while we have not tried using the mower,  their description of the problem they detected leads us to have confidence they knew what they were doing.    Their price to repair the problem seemed very reasonable.   Another mower service provider refused to pick up our mower due to the fact we live on a busy street.  They said we would have to wait at the curb with the mower until they arrived.  Como had no problems with pick uup and delivery.  Our overall experience was very positive and we would use them in the future.

They provide a pick-up and delivery service, which really helps me. My mower always runs fine in the spring when I take it to them.

They were pretty good. They came and picked it up and did everything they said they were going to do. They were polite doing it. They did a good job and it was reasonably priced. They were very responsive. They run a good business.

Very helpful service. They helped me get the mower out of the truck, gave an estimate of when the repairman would be able to service the mower and contacted me quickly with the details.

They’re always very friendly and they arrive when they’re supposed to.  They pick up my mower to do the spring tune-up.  They pick it up and when they say they’re bringing it back, they’re there.  I think their price is very fair, very reasonable.

I understand that Como Mower has been in business a long time, and they are the closest folks who do this type of repair/tune up work, but this experience is best explained as being surreal.  There was a real disconnect between their reputation and our previous experiences with lawn mowers and this visit.

We brought the snowblower in (it is an older Toro model that had been my mother's, and it works - its just older) and the man behind the desk acted as if we had brought in something distasteful into the store.  He made us feel like we were wasting his time.  He made up excuses as to how long it would take, and how didn't know if it would get cold enough to address the choke settings, but admitted that they had a number of them in the backroom awaiting a colder morning to make the adjustment.  Our overall feeling was that he didn't want to take it on (even though he admitted that he wasn't the one doing the repairs), but he wrote up the order and said they would call.

When they did call the man on the phone said that it was running fine but that the repairs for a cracked paddle and a replacement for a missing guard piece, on the bottom would bring the repair to $110.  I told him it was still cheaper than a new one, to go ahead with it.  "Are you sure?"  Yes, quite.  "You want to spend the money on this." YES!

When we went to pick it up they were happy to take our money, but again, they treated us like they were be glad to be rid of us.

If they didn't want to service it, they should have said so.  We didn't make any unreasonable demands other than we'd like it back by December 1st (six weeks in the future) and I thought that was pretty easy going.

I used to swear by them, but after this I can't say that I look forward to do business with them, but consider them more of a necessary evil of sorts, and I don't take pleasure in saying that.
Response from COMO MOWER SERVICE & SALES

"I am very sorry that you had a bad experience with our company and it greatly puzzles me how this could have happened. Toro makes a great product that is designed to last a very long time. We carry all parts for these older machines and over the course of the winter months we may service as many as 100 of the model you own. We, normally, would only discourage a customer from servicing these units if the cost of the repairs is close to the price of a new unit. When servicing the early production snow throwers we do wait for lower temps so we can adjust the carbs for cold operation. The new units have non-adjustable carbs, eliminating the need to wait for cooler temps. What I need to stress most of all is this... We have a strong store policy, "The customer is king." Word of mouth has been our key asset for over 35 years of business. An upset customer shows me that we still have a great deal of room for improvement. We hope you give us another chance to provide quality customer service."

Overall, my experience with them has been great. It is kind of a mom-and-pop mower repair place. The last time around, I spent $29 between a couple of chains and a bottle of oil. They are a great service. I can ask them if I can come over and pick things up in a couple of hours, and they will oblige and have them ready. They are really good, and their responsiveness is very high. They are very attentive, personable and always available. I like to support small business people because I am a small business guy myself. I would rate them highly and would use them again in the future.

When a woman needs to have an electronic item, they are willing to give instructions. They gave me instructions before sending me off with the product. The store is small and has been there for a while. They took the time with me and explained things. They did a good job in looking after my lawn blower.

Starting in mid December called the company once a week requesting mower pick up and winter tune up. After about the fifth time on 2/2 the company picked up the mower. In the company's defense it was not like we had to worry about cutting grass with three feet of snow on the ground. It was annoying that they could not give me a firm pick-up date. The company returned the mower on 2/12. On 3/20/2010 I checked the mower. The company had removed but failed to replace the battery. The battery for this mower is $100, and I am not comfortable working on the mower myself. Contacted company on 3/22. Waiting for answer.
Response from COMO MOWER SERVICE & SALES

"I am sorry that you were dissatisfied with the free pick-up and delivery service. Como offers this service to six zip code areas in Central Ohio. It relieves our customers of the headache of loading and unloading their mowers and the long wait in the peak spring season. The service keeps our shop busy in the winter months. We service 2000+ mowers each winter with this offer. I guess what I’m trying to get at is the fact that the P&D is not an easy task. The time we spend making calls to schedule is incalculable (4000+ - and that is if you can get it arranged with one call for pick-up and one call for delivery). We always tell customers that we will call them a day in advance to schedule. We in no way expect our customers to sit around and wait for our calls. We call until we reach you to make arrangements. Because of the high cost of fuel, we wait until we have a full load within an area. Add snow to the mix and that is another cause for delay. When your mower came in we removed the battery for charging. The mechanic noted it on the service order but the driver overlooked it when he returned your equipment. Had your battery been lost, we would have replaced it. You notified us, we located it in the charging cabinet and returned it to you. We really try our best to offer you quality service at a reasonable price. We would like to perform our service perfectly at all times but we are human and sometimes a mistake is made."

They did a nice, fast job. They found another small issue (a switch) that needed to be replaced. They called to confirm it was OK to fix that before proceeding with the repair.

The preliminary diganosis was that it was fixable. I then got a call a day or two later from them, letting me know the engine damage was more significant then they originally thought. The cost ended up not being worth the work, so I decided to not go through with it. They were helpful, and I would go back if I was ever needing another lawn mower repaired.

They've always been there. They offer a service in the winter where they'll come and pick it up, repair it and then deliver it in the spring. They usually have it for about 1 to 2 weeks. We've also purchased several mowers from them and we'll continue to go them in the future.
