There was nothing wrong with the garage door and I wanted to keep it that way. It's been about 6 years, since A.J. installed the double garage door. I just wanted to "tune up". Craig called to confirm the date and time and showed up when he said he would. He lubed and made a few adjustments and it sounds so much better.
I called A J Garage door co based on a coupon I had found in the local mail for a garage door replacement at one of my rental properties. The gentleman who took the call was pleasant and scheduled an appointment to inspect the installation and take measurements. Cost was already determined by the coupon, but he mentioned it could be higher depending on the actual installation and issues that could come up which was understandable. I set up the appointment with the tenant at the property as I am out of state and could not be there at the time. I was told that I would be contacted with the specifics after the measurements were taken so we could set up a date for the installation.
After the appointment I did not receive any calls from the company for the next week. I spoke with my tenant and he told me that the guy who arrived took measurements and insisted on asking him questions about the specifics of the installation. He responded every time that "I can't tell you, its not my house, you have to ask the owner" but I did not receive any calls. I called to follow up and could only get voicemail so I left a message. The message was returned at 8:30pm and I missed the call as I was in bed since I work early shifts. I called back the next day, and again, only got voicemail so I left another message. This message was not returned. After a week, I called again, only to get the voicemail again. Same thing, call returned very late. Over the next few weeks I attempted to contact the company several times a day at some points only to get voicemail. Frustrated by this, I left a message asking to return my call or I would assume that they were no longer interested in the job. This call was returned quickly with a sarcastic tone blaming me and other customers for never answering their phones so I decided that this company was not for me and I called someone else who did the job quickly with no hassle whatsoever for less money with a much better quality product.
For the record, this process went on over about 4 weeks and from my phone records I attempted about 28 calls, with only one being answered. From all of those calls, this guy only called me 3 times and at no point did he give me any information about the job so I could make a decision.
Seems to me, if you are that busy that you can't answer when customers call you, then you should hire an answering service or a secretary to do your scheduling for you. And don't blame the customer for not being able to get work when you don't put any effort into it or make it a priority to get the job. If your business fails from lack of customers, its your fault, not theirs. Business 101.
