I was using them for a plumber but I think they're expensive. I've quit, but I do use them because they put in my furnace, well I don't know if they put in my furnace, I can't remember, but they've done most of my plumbing needs. I use them every fall for my furnace. I used to use them totally for my plumbing but I don't anymore.

I got a call at about 2:30 that the tech would be there in 30 minutes; Bruce pulled in the driveway at 2:58. I described the symptoms and he confirmed the problem of a bad door switch in about five minutes. Another five had the switch removed and a temporary bypass in place (he gave me an appropriate safety lecture about not messing around in there with the safety switch bypassed) and then spent another 5 minutes or so checking a few other things to ensure nothing else looked bad. When he finished, he offered to do an overall check of the AC system while he was there, explaining it would be at the standard hourly rate. I agreed. Bruce was professional, efficient, and knowledgeable. I'd be happy to have him back again. My only downgrade is on pricing. The service call and hourly rate seem standard, but before Bruce left he had received a price for the replacement part ...he said his manager discounted it to $138, installation included. The part is a small plastic switch; the installation less than ten minutes. So if we apply the standard rates quoted $25/quarter hour, the labor is $25 making the part $113?? I strongly doubt that. I don't mind paying fair value for work. I don't object to paying $90 to have them show up, or $100 an hour for labor. I'm a businessman; I understand the need to cover overhead and profit margin. I do object to exorbitant mark ups on materials. I went to V&E Hahn because another local company charged me $40 for a three dollar fuse, and they weren't the least bit embarrassed by it. I will hire Vern & Ellsworth Hahn again. But I'm disappointed that I feel like I need to carefully quiz them on the cost of parts.

I needed to service our HVAC system and the guys at V & EH were absolutely brilliant. Showed up exactly on time, explained exactly what was done and how much it costed, suggested a variety of options and offered their expert opinion.

I have been using them for years, since even before I was a member of Angie's List. They put in our last furnace, a/c unit and water heater and they also do the maintenance and up keep. They send cards in the mail to remind you when it time for your checkup. They are very prompt. They even call ahead of your appointment sometimes if they have extra availability, to see if you want to be fit in on earlier day or time. They are real good on appointments. They are rated very highly in Cleveland heights.

Almost cataclysmic. There was an incident with our boiler that happened a few weeks ago that demonstrated a) that V&E Hann has not been performing proper maintenance and b) their customer service is poor or even negligent. The event that made us come to our senses with them was that our boiler was "carboning" from years of improper service, possibly 10, 15, or more. I do not know who was servicing this unit before we moved in two years ago, but V&E Hann never noticed this problem during their service calls. We're not experts on this, but the condition, as we understand it, is basically that years of carbon have built up on the various components of the boiler, starving it for oxygen and forcing it to work in overdrive to compensate. The result is that flames were shooting out from the ignition area, causing the danger of melting critical components. Likely there were high levels of Carbon Monoxide present as well. In short, it was a potentially very serious and dangerous situation. We did not have CO monitors in the house... a situation we have since rectified. When we noticed what was happening, it was a Sunday morning. We had the presence of mind to shut the unit off and then call V&E Hann for emergency service. Their Dispatcher took down our description and called a supervisor, as she did not think that this qualified as an emergency, since we technically still had heat. Calling us back shortly after, she confirmed that he supervisor determined that this was NOT an emergency and that they would come out the next business day. Now, to his credit, a technician from V&E Hann saw the note in the system and gave us a call soon after. He confirmed there on the phone that this was a dangerous situation and that turning off the unit was the right thing to do. However, he said it was not worth our while for him to come out, since he would likely just tell us that "this boiler is past its service life and will soon need to be replaced." The approach from V&E Hann seemed unacceptable. So we called around a few other places in the area to see who would come out on a Sunday. Two guys responded. Both said: "why would you think you need to replace the unit before inspecting it? These boilers can last forever if they are properly maintained." So we had one of them come out to take a look, and he confirmed what was happening, but that the problem could be fixed. Very long story short: we hired this other guy to properly clean the unit. A few days later and a big mess of built-up soot that came out of the system, the heat is working again just fine. What we learned from this is: 1) Have CO monitors in your house - a few of them in different spots. They are as critical as smoke detectors. 2) Don't just trust your heating company to do their job properly; ask questions and make sure that your system is being maintained right. 3) Put more faith in the guy that will come out on a Sunday morning to take a look than with the company that can't be bothered even though huge red warning flags are going up.

They have gone above and beyond for us repeatedly including giving us two salvaged cast iron radiators when our existing ones were not doing the trick. They came back countless times when we were unable to regulate the temperature in the house until they found the perfect balance. They've responded to emergencies in a matter of minutes and performed invaluable services professionally and expertly. I cannot recommend Verne & Ellsworth Hann enough and will continue to use them and trust them with all of our home needs.

I usually do not write reviews, but I must say that after the experience I had with Verne & Ellsworth Hann, the least I can do is let others know about it. It is never good news to hear that your furnace is beyond repair. I had been a participant in a home insurance program where I thought they would always send a company out to fix it no matter what. Of course on the coldest day of 2017 I was told that it could no longer be fixed. The company that came out left some numbers on a piece of paper and told me to call to set up an appointment for a future install. I called another company - same thing, just numbers and a weak promise that they may be able to come out later in the month. When I called the Hanns, the process was completely different. They cared about making sure I understood what my options were. I was given a detailed explanation on three different price levels for a furnace and an air conditioner. I had questions. They had answers. It was an actual conversation where I did not feel at all that I was being pushed toward the highest priced option. I was told about things that could be added on, but again no pressure. Potential complications related to my ducting were explained. I actually felt like I knew something about HVAC after talking to Bill Hann several times. Best of all, they were in a hurry to get the equipment put in my home after I decided to go with them. From the point of my first phone call to the final installation only one week had gone by. I recently had my entire kitchen and basement redone and never thought that work of this magnitude could get done in one week. The crew that came into my house was kind and considerate from the first day. Drop cloths went everywhere. They made sure I understood what they had to do and where things would go. My daughter was home sick and didn't wake up once. The new features were explained in detail. A complimentary service plan was given. This will probably be the only time in my life that I will be shopping for a furnace and/or air conditioner. I felt it was important to share with whoever is looking for services in this area - you must do yourself a favor and choose to work with Verne & Ellsworth Hann Inc.

Mr. Hann was an absolute delight to work with (all our conversations were long distance), preparing estimates, explaining the extent of work needed, obtaining subcontractor support for the asbestos abatement, and getting this major undertaking done as quickly as possible. I couldn't be more pleased with the services provided by him and his team. My neighbor, who watched all the various steps in this process as they were performed in my absence, now needs her own home's boiler replaced. Her comment to me was: "Having seen the way Verne & Ellsworth Hann did your project, I wouldn't consider using anyone else."

I got home last night from work to be pleasantly surprised that the boiler installation had been completed with excellence in one day. I want to thank you for your diligence in getting it taken care of without any real downtime. Also I went down in the basement this morning and took a look at the plumbing and the unit and everything looks wonderful. Please tell your team on the job we appreciate everything you all did.

The guy fixed it perfectly. Knew what was going on instantly. Went to get the measurements and grabbed a fitting knob that would fit. Very knowledgeable and reliable. Joe and this isn't the first time I've had him. He won't leave unless he has it done perfectly. Very conscientious.
