In 2009 Gutter Shutter installed their leaf and debris free gutter system on my house. While the painters were painting the house during 2018, they discovered rot in the soffit and facia wood in the corners. I engaged an inspector who determined that the combination of the back splash with the gutter cover was projecting the water back against the facia. This led to the facia and soffit rot. Repair costs (carpenter, painter and replacement gutters) cost $2,970. This work was finally completed in 2020. Gutter Shutter refused to stand behind their work and make or pay for the repairs even though the damage was directly caused by the malfunctioning of their gutter systems.

I cancelled the contract within the 3 day cancellation period. The sales rep never mentioned anything and folded the contract up and put in the folder to where it wasn't noticeable. I put down a $1,500 deposit using my card. I faxed the cancellation on a Monday and got confirmation. I have tried numerous of times calling and leaving voicemails. It's been over the 10 day refund period and they are telling me that they are unable to refund at this time. I'm glad that I didn't use them because their customer service/ communication is awful. I would never recommend them to anyone!

I bought the GutterShutter system in October of 2018 at a very high cost. I was very reluctant to buy the system because it has a cover across most of the top. This lets the company make it’s “no clog” sales pitch. My reluctance to buy was because I was afraid the run-off from my steep roof pitch would overshoot the gutters during a heavy rain. I expressed this exact concern during the sales pitch and, the sales representative verbally told me this would not be an issue. This was a DELIBERATE false declaration. In fact as a result of my verbally stating that concern, the sales representative should have referred me to the “fine print” on the back of their “contract” where that very issue is documented. AT NO TIME during the sales pitch did he ever make a reference for me to see or read, the “back of the Contract or the FINE PRINT” recorded there, in order to get further clarification. He did not do that and therefore I feel he was deliberately dishonest. And, in fact, the rain overshoot proved true in April of 2019 but it is not the reason for extremely poor rating. MY REASON During the 2018/2019 winter, we had two (2) very light (1 to 2 inch) snowfalls. Following each snowfall, and the melting cycle over the next few days, I went out and found that I had 6 inch to 10 long icicles hanging from the entire length of my front and back gutters. Approximately 180 foot total length. When I called the GutterShutter company to ask for help, the desk clerk told me “it’s in the fine print of the back of the sales contract that you signed”. In fact after her informing me, I looked and the “fine print” is there. Obviously even the company clerk knows about the problem! I’m positive this is a “free get out of jail free clause” that is deliberately placed there so the company can cheat the consumer. I filed a complaint with the Cincinnati Better Business Bureau. The company closed the complaint be referencing the fine print I never knew existed until after I’d signed and had a problem with the product. That’s when they informed me of the “fine print”. Below the “fine print” stating that “rain overshoot” MAY happen is the statement below. . This “fine print” reads; “Expect icicles and associated dripping when freeze / thaw conditions exist. This dripping will often lead to ice formation on walk-ways, sidewalks, porches, and driveways. Expect slippery conditions below GutterShutter.” Not only does it legitimizes the icicles but also approved the unsafe conditions that WILL happen. If you buy gutters from them do two things. First get a price on open gutters from a reputable company. Second, look over and read the entire front and back “fine print” of the purchase agreement “contract” before you sign it. If you have a question not answered there then have them write the question and the answer on the front of the purchase agreement “contract” and sign and date it. I'm appalled at the disingenuous tactics used during the sales pitch and the follow-up service. Kerry

This company has the worst customer service after the installation of any company I have ever dealt with. They never answer the phone, you have to leave multiple messages before they call back. We have a problem with the rain cascading over the gutter like a rainfall. They sent someone out who looked at it and said he would have someone else look at it. After multiple calls and several weeks they finally returned a call and said the guy who came out reported back to the company that there was no problem. After more calls and time they sent someone else out who looked at it and said he would have the owner come look at the problem. We have never seen or heard from them since. They do not return our messages or honor warranty.

Great Sales pitch, but lousy communication after that. Didn't start or complete the install at the promised time. Repeatedly did not show up on time or at all for required follow up visits to complete or repair the contracted work. After complaining about punctuality and broken appointments I was told by the service manager that they can not guarantee when their guys will get out to perform work and they did not ask me to wait on them at any time. This company processed the full creditcard payment for an unfinished Job. They left debris laying around my home which they promised to return to finish cleaning but never did. Showed up unannounced 5-6 days after the agreed completion date to finish installation but not clean up and repairs were still needed after that. Very disappointed, wish I could reverse my decision. FYI If they agree to a lower negotiated price watch out for the promised services they will cut out with out clarifying. Make copies of all paper work the salesman uses in his pitch and promises.

They were very prompt, came in the next day and put up the new ones. I have had some complaints and called them on several occasions. They did send a guy out one time who seemed to not know a lot about the gutters. I've even talked to the manager a few times and I'm still not pleased. The gutters drip and I don't feel like brand new gutters should drip if they are installed properly. They have told me it has to do with several other problems on my house, like my attic not being properly insulated.

Magnificently! Sent 2 seasoned workers who worked very professionally, reviewed the job site with me, and the process. gave me options on an obsolete downspout. Answered questions. When weather caused a reschedule of 1st appointment date, they worked with me and my schedule to get it done next available date I had open. Left my yard spotless. Very satisfied.

Overall, it went well, but there were 2 issues. One was the fact that lots of spikes, pieces of metal, and even 2 lengths of the old gutters were left behind in the yard. More importantly, when the new facia was installed, they used 1 x 4 boards instead of 1 x 6, leaving a 2 - inch gap that birds and squirrels could get through. When I complained about it, they came back to replace it, but instead of replacing it, they just painted it. They did add a flashing that effectively covered the gap, but I did not appreciate that they did not tell me that they didn't replace the facia boards as promised. When I complained about that, they told me there was no such thing as 1 x 6 boards anymore. I asked them if they had ever heard of cutting down a 1 x 8 to make a 1 x 6. So the result was OK, I think. The gutters are up there, and they work. But I all the foolishness with the facia board makes me wonder if these people are really trustworthy -- are they willing to take short cuts if they think the grandma won't get up on a ladder to check their work?

The salesman stopped by on a Saturday at 3pm, that was great to make sure it would work for myself (son) and my mother.  The gutters need to be replaced, we know that, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out.  The saleman (don't know his name b/c he didn't have a business card) did his measurements, then he came inside....that's when it all starts.    First we have to point out that they have an A+ on the BBB and an A+ on Angies List.  Immediately I download the Angies List app, search and what do you know....they have a B with 21 F ratings at the time I am writing this.  They will open their little presentation book and start going through what is all wrong with your gutters, basically it's made out like you have no gutters on the house.   We then waste 40 minutes going over all kinds of pointless sales material, complete waste of time.  During the 40 minutes we make sure that we bash every other company out there.  That's a great method for selling a product, bash your competitors and waste other peoples time.   Finally, we get to the price....somehow he magically knows the price per foot of all 6-8 competitors and he calculates that out while we sit there.  I am blown away that someone can just grab the price out of the air for all their competitors....AMAZING!   We finally get to OUR price, $5600, but WAIT...that's not what you will pay.  There is some sort of factory rebate and referral program, no idea what he was talking about b/c he made zero sense.   The price finally comes out to around $3400.  I told the guy, look, nothing against you, but we will not be buying anything TODAY as I want to look at others out there prior to making a decision.  At that very moment the whole process turned south.  The salesman got an attitude, started in with the it's today only, you can't get this price once I leave.  My response "then I guess we won't be installing your product at all, b/c we will not buy this today".   He continued with the it has to be today, the corp. office won't give you this price ever again.  All the while he is arguing with me, he's packing up all his sales material, knowing he's wasted his time and it's getting another sucker to sign up right away.   I informed him, just so you know, you have a B rating, not an A+ on Angies List b/c I just checked, "oh, well, did you check......" some site I had never heard of.    Bottom line, they might make an ok product, but the salesman are just down right rude!    This garbage of you have to buy today, we won't sell it to you otherwise?????    Anyone who has that tactic is selling garbage and deserves to fail.    Do yourself a favor, call others and make sure you are getting the best possible price.   118' of Gutter Shutter for $3400?   That's crazy!

The determination of the price was a mystery.
I think it would be better to give an itemized accounting for the cost,
and forget the discounts. I think I paid a good price, but I am not sure.
The Sales representative was knowledgeable in describing ways to
reconfigure the guttering to improve roof drainage and avoid water damage.
We employed two of his suggestions into the plan for the new gutters.
In terms of the removal and installation of the  gutters  everything went well.
The workers arrived right on time and got started right away.
They were hard workers and seemed to enjoy what they were doing.
They worked for  @ 5 hours to remove and replace the gutters.
They  did a great job of cleaning up  and took the old gutters.
The new gutters look great, and hopefully they will be  able to do the job.
I am looking forward to the next heavy rain to see how well  the gutters  handle water.

GutterShutter breaches contract and does not return deposit.
I contacted the GutterShutter company on November 3 Via their website after seeing the gutters that they installed on my sister's house. I was looking primarily for new gutters and down spouts and secondarily to have exposed wood wrapped.
I talked to Chris their Marketing Director to schedule an appointment for their sales representative to get an estimate. We agreed to an appointment on Saturday November 7 at 3pm. Their salesman Loui was almost an hour late. Chris kept calling me to update date me on the status explaining that his sales man was still working with another customer.
I should have taken that to be a bad sign that they are high pressure sales. Loui finally arrived about 3:45. He spent over 2 1/2 hours measuring the house and selling their products and services. When he started to talk about the price, he started with the price that was good for a year that was about $4,200. The second price was the good only today price which was about $3,300. I explained that I don't usually make decisions like that the same day and I was getting bids from multiple companies. I told him that I had another bid that was lower and he wanted to see what they bid. After we discuss their competitors price, he lowered the price to $2,300. I thought that this was a good price for the job so I agreed to purchase their gutters and services for wrapping fascia to be installed on November 10. He tried to get me to waive my right to cancel within 3 days because the job was within 3 days. When I refused, he stated that as long as I called before they arrived I could cancel. They required a 50% deposit which luckily I put the $1,150 on a credit card.
On November 10th, I waited and watched for their installers to arrive. At 11:30 I received a phone call from someone named Jim. Jim stated that their installer was at the house and they would not be doing the job. He explained that they did not have ladders tall enough to reach the third story of my house. Additionally he stated that the vines that are on one side of the house would prohibit them from wrapping the fascia on that side of the house. I asked him why the installers did not knock on the door and talk to me. I questioned if they had even came. I could not and still cannot imagine why they would not talk to the customer. I also find it implausible that a company that works on installing gutters would not have and come to a job without proper ladders to do the job.
I had been waiting all morning for them to come to do the job and he did not have an answer and he would have someone call me. A lady I think her name was Shannon or Saundra called me. She stated that she managed the installations.
I questioned if they had even come on to my property. I was watching for them and I didn't see anyone. She did not have an answer as to why they didn't try to talk to me when they were here. She reiterated that they came because she had pictures of them at my house.
She explained that the vines would prohibit the wrapping of the fascia. Since the vines were on one side of the house and the gutters are on the other side of the house, I asked if they could install the gutters and skip wrapping that fascia. She checked with the installer that supposedly came to my house.

She said that he stated that the fascia on that side was warped and needed to be replaced. I said that the contract stated that if the fascia needed to be replaced that it would be replaced at an extra charge of $7 Per foot and I was willing to accept that charge for the job.

She checked again with the installer and answered back that the problem with the fascia was caused by the roof and that was outside of the scope of the work they perform. She claimed that she could see the warped fascia in the pictures. I dispute that the fascia is warped.
She said that they guarantee their system for life and that they did not want to install a system that would be doomed to fail. She said that after I get it fixed that I should call them again. I asked her why should call them and not just have a company who wanted my business do the work. She stated that their system was superior.
I told her that I would not be calling them again after this experience. She stated that my position was unfortunate.
I asked her about my $1,150 deposit. She stated that it would be returned. Today is November 25,2015. 15 days since they breached our contract and they still have not processed a credit to my credit card. It took them less than 1 business day to process the initial charge. Now over 2 weeks later they have not returned my deposit!!!

I think that they did not want to install the gutters at the price that their high pressure salesman sold. I would be willing to bet that if I had accepted their first or second price that they would have done my job. Everyone that I have told so far has come to the same conclusion. I am posting this review so others can be aware of how this company operates. They are very unethical! I am so thankful that I didn't pay cash for the deposit and I have the ability to place the charge in dispute with my credit card.

Wife and I met with the salesman on a Saturday in August. The descriptions in  other reviews of the sales process were followed faithfully with this  guy. He first did the alleged comparison list of prices charged by  competing firms for the same type of job (up to almost 10 grand). Then  he trotted out his initial price, subtracted 20% as a "same day"  incentive, took off another discount for some other alleged reason, and  the initial $8000ish bid became right around $5000. My wife was totally  sold on the product even though I had serious misgivings about their  super high pressure sales process, and the salesman was making an offer good only that day, so we signed. The reason given by the Gutter Shutter salesman for demanding a same day first visit commitment is that they  save money by not sending the salesman out a second time to take the  order.

I didn't like the high sales pressure and decided to cancel.

The following Monday, I drove to Gutter Shutter's office and canceled the contract. All in-home sales carry a blanket 3 business day right of cancellation as a matter of business law.

At Gutter Shutter the sales manager offered to drop the price to about $4000 to "earn my business", explaining that it was "their cost", if I made a positive decision by the following Wednesday. I said even though it sounded better, I still needed to check with and get proposals from one or two other contractors, so that time frame still won't work for me.

She also said that their position is that some Angie's List reviewers are confusing Gutter Shutter with other businesses and are posting Gutter Shutter specific reviews that are really about competitors.

(Just to be clear, I drove to Gutter Shutter at Kemper Springs in Forest Park to cancel the contract, and their logo includes a cartoon beaver. Clear enough for you Gutter Shutter? )

She then said that because I would not commit to a decision by the following Wednesday, two days later, this "at cost" price was off the table and that she was revoking the same day discount, and gave me a price of approximately $5600 that was their "good for one year" price. In other words she was making it appear as a punishment or penalty that I was not agreeing quickly to their price.

Too much drama and BS from Gutter Shutter.  I said "whatever" to her in response to this "horrible" news. And she was very icy toward me when I left.

From start to finish, dealing with Gutter Shutter was one continuous adversarial game. The sales pressure they use and the tactics they use to pressure the customer make a fast decision are over the top, almost ridiculous.

Also, we had a superb seamless leaf guard protected 6" system installed by our favorite contractor for $3100, with a drip edge installed that was not mentioned by Gutter Shutter during the sales call. It has performed masterfully through multiple heavy rains. This is a bit more than 1/2 the "penalty" one year lock in price that Gutter Shutter quoted.

Update: we signed up for the in-home appointment at Trader's World. An  incentive to take the appointment is $50 in gift cards no matter whether you purchase. We didn't see this gift card as of January 29th. I called G.S. on that day and spoke with "Kyle" who explained that these things happen sometimes but that in general all gift cards are sent promptly. I received a check from "Queen City Gutter Systems" the following Monday.

As others have stated  ****super high pressure sales tactics****.  A representative from the company stopped by the house with a coupon for $750 off.  My husband took the business card and said we'd be in touch.  The next day Gutter Shutter called to set up their free quote, and they called again the day after.  We set up an appointment.    We actually were in the market for gutters but hadn't planned on it being right now, especially since we will need a new roof and we thought it would be better to do the roof then the gutters.  We told the scheduler and salesman as much.   We also told the scheduler we had the gutters and downspouts replaced within the last few years.  The scheduler told us they could offer us a "buy back" on the gutters so we weren't paying twice.  The sales rep didn't understand why the scheduler told us that.  I told the sales rep to call the scheduler to find out the details; the sales rep didn't make that call.  As others have mentioned we were quoted a today only price and a good for one year price.  Then he started making adjustments to the price. There was a lot of numbers being discussed and quite a bit of back and forth.  As we were reviewing the numbers we decided to do the back side of the house for the quoted price.  He calls his supervisor (seriously) to see if he could get us a better deal.  He comes back with a better deal for the whole house not the backside which we had just agreed to.  The next thing I know we  agreed to high - priced gutters with an install the next day. We also had to sign away our right to the 3 day cancellation  since the install was scheduled for the following day.  We were told they could get us such a great deal and install tomorrow because it is a "slow time" for them.   He also assured us it would be no problem to do the gutters now and the roof later as "any reputable roofer will know how to protect the gutters".
The next day the installers show up; a crew of 2. They got right to work removing the old and prepping for the new.  I checked in periodically to make sure everything was going well.  I specifically asked the lead installer "do you have the black tie in for the front of the house?"  which we were promised and it is on our contract.  He replied "yes, everything is on the truck".  The install went fine.  Then towards the end of the day when they were preparing the tie in, they told my husband because it was raining they would not be able to spray paint the tie in and would have to return tomorrow to paint it.  The installer didn't say this was a temporary solution as we are out of stock of black tie ins.  In fact he said he was told by the warehouse to spray paint the tie in.  I wasn't available at the time but in NO WAY were we going to accept a spray painted tie in!   I called the company and left a message in no uncertain terms that a painted tie in was not going to be accepted on this job.  I couldn't believe they really thought a spray painted tie in was going to work here.  This company positions itself as an industry leader, having the very best product, etc etc.  We paid a very high price for this product, I still can't believe they thought spray painting was going to be acceptable.  We received a call the next morning indicating they would be out to install an actual black tie (not spray painted) as soon as they could.  They did return within the week to correct that.
So far the gutters, downspouts and tie ins have performed well.  We aren't disappointed in the product just the journey to get there.   I'm not sure I can recommend this company based on their high pressure sales tactics, the numbers game they play with the prices, and the spray painted gutter.  We can only hope when we do replace the roof  the install will go well around these new, very expensive gutters.

High Pressure sales attemp.
Scheduled appointment then went to my old address.
Rescheduled appointment.  My wife was called into work so they said they wanted to reschedule again to give a FREE estimate.  They said that they give you two prices, one that is good for a year and the other only good for that day.  That is an old HIGH PRESSURE tactic. If that price is good today, it should be good tomorrow.  They just want to pressure you into signing right away instead of shopping around.  I told them to leave.
