Response from Tarvin Plumbing

"Not sure what happened here--We did respond through the message center to the owner. The owner responded and told us that the order had been canceled by Angie's List. when we inquired further-we received no response. We will be happy to help if owner still has the coupon and wants service."

The sink valves were okay but pricey, then after they left we turned the water on and it started leaking into our first floor entry way. I called them to come back and they said they'd need to look inside the wall to see if the leak was caused by them or was already there. Instead of just figuring out where the leak was coming from (preexisting vs new leaky valves) they said they would look into it at the cost of $150.00 per hour. This is almost double the other quotes and in the meantime they had filled up the sink, opened the drain valve and water was everywhere in my entryway. They also tracked mud all over the bathroom floor and didn't clean it up. I will not use Tarvin again.
Response from Tarvin Plumbing

"We will investigate the mud on the floor issue-which if true is unacceptable. Our work pertained to the pressure water lines only, Owner completed the sink installation. We returned at no charge to investigate and found that the drain was apparently leaking in the wall which would be unrelated to our previous service. For the record the rate is $120.00 per hour with no travel, trip or service charges-this is the same rate that was paid for the original service. MIKE Tarvin"

Our HVAC technician discovered a leak when water was dripping out of some ductwork in the basement. He recommended calling a plumber so we called Tarvin. They came out that same day, within the hour actually. The plumber was very professional and looked into all the possibilities. It turns out the water was coming from somebody steaming off wallpaper in the room above that was leaking onto one of the vents and dripping down into the basement. Even though all we ended up needing was the evaluation, this plumber really has become our favorite in the area. I've never had any bad work done by them and while at times they can be expensive, they really do work hard.

We have a slight flooding issues in our outside drain that would run into our garage when it rains, so we had Tarvin Plumbing come out to unclog the drain. I purchased a $90 coupon from Angie's List for $60 and was told I would get 45 mins. of plumbing work. I showed them where the problem was and if they needed anything to let me know. 45 mins later they knock on the front door present me with a bill for an additional $30 and tell me any equipment they use is not included. If it is not included I would think it is their responsibility to inform me what it is and what it will cost. It was not a large sum of money but I just wounder what would happen on a remodel job or anything more substantial.
Not to mention the drain flooded the next day when it rained.

They were responsive on Angie's list and quickly setup an appointment and came to our house.  We recently remodeled a bathroom and the last piece was connecting the vanity sinks to the drainage system.  The vanity is free floating on the wall and the top to bottom height was only 18 inches.  It was a very tight fit and we thought it would be best to leave it to the experts.  The plumber spent about 30 minutes with my wife (I was at work) looking at the vanity and said it could not be done.  He suggested removing tile below the vanity and reworking the plumbing in the wall to allow for the sink drain to exit through the bottom of the vanity instead of the back.  He then left.  I got home from work to find the drains not connected and a $90 charge for his time.  So I spent the next hour and a half connecting the drain.  It was a pain, that's why I hired a plumber, but it works perfectly.  So I got to pay someone $90 so that I could do the work that I was trying to avoid.
From the other reviews it appears that they do good work when they do work, but unfortunately I did not get to experience that.

*UPDATE 7/14/2014*

True to his word, we received a check for the $90.  While it would have been great if they did the work, I will concede that the rough in may not have been ideal (though serviceable) and I can appreciate his point of view.  I have updated the review to be representative of a company that can assess a situation and help to come to a reasonable outcome.  That is very rare in this day and age.  From the other reviews it appears that many applaud your work, I will applaud your integrity.  Thank you.
Response from Tarvin Plumbing

"The plumber who was sent to the job found that the drains which were recently roughed in by the owner or others were not at the proper height to install the cabinets as specified. We were not able to complete the job in a manner which we felt was proper and we are in the mindset that our work should be as professional as possible. If the owner was able to connect in a manner which they are satisfied with then we are happy that their job is complete. We will be happy to refund the evaluation fee of $90.00 in the interest of fairness but would maintain that proper rough in would have avoided this issue. MIKE Tarvin"

I purchased the deal for $90 worth of service for $60 and then scheduled the appointment.  He arrived right on time and was prepared.  Just looking at the shower faucet he could tell it was very common and the model was difficult to remove which was the reason I called in the first place because I couldn't get the valve cover off.  He explained the best case and worst case scenario before proceeding making sure I was ok with the plan.  To my surprise it turned out to be the best case scenario where he was able to get the cover off, replace the damaged parts and reinstall the shower faucet.  Still cautious he slowly turned the water main back on and checked carefully for leaks, none present.  Then he suggested testing the water pressure via the outside faucet to ensure no issues there either.  He was very thorough and explained every step in meaningful layman's terminology.  I will definitely use Tarvin Plumbing again.

Since this was the first time I've used Tarvin, I was quite unsure about what to expect. Would they push my appointment back (as some are wont to do) or would they show up on time? It turned out that my concerns were quite misplaced. Tarvin Plumbing presented a professional visage. Phil's 30+ years of experience showed once he got to the bathroom shower: he provided precise solution to specific problem and replaced the offending knob. I was impressed by the extent to which he was prepared. Rather than make me run to one of the home improvement joints in search of a replacement part, he came with one. That saved time and, of course, headache. (I can't say categorically if that particular item saved me money though). But it was not a concern of mine at this point. He was in on time and he took less than one hour to get it fixed. I would call on Tarvin in future should the need arise.

The plumber, Jim arrived shortly after Tarvin called to let me know he was on the way.  He was friendly and set to work immediately clearing our drain for us.  He made sure all of our drains were flowing well before leaving and described the type and size of the blockage we had, and also gave us some suggestions for preventing future build-up.  He also gave us a $25 discount when we mentioned we'd found them on Angie's List.  Will definitely use again!

Went great.  Exactly as described.  Tarvin Plumbing has been my plumber of choice for awhile now.  He was on-time, did the work effectively and efficiently.  Haven't had any issues since.
I purchased the Big Deal through Angies List and there were no issues applying to the payment.

All work was completed in a friendly, timely, and professional fashion. Laundry tubs and water softener (including salt reservoir) efficiently removed from basement with no mess -- hauled away all trash and cleaned up. Impressed with the faucets that Tarvin installed; they are high quality, brass fittings, fantastic compared to what we had and well worth the few extra dollars. The kitchen faucet has a high neck making big pot cleaning easier, and the handles move so smoothly you can use your pinky finger to turn water on when hands are gooey. The round handles of washing machine and outside faucets are easy on the hands -- slightly larger than the big box store handles so much easier to grip and no sharp metal at edges. Could not be more pleased with the work and their line of faucets. Highly recommend.

I would not use them again. The guy that they sent was young and inexperienced. I needed the top part of some faucets removed and replaced with new different colored ones, and he told me I was going to have the tile all ripped out from the wall in my shower and bathtub. I told him I didn't think so. I suggested that he put the ones in the sink, and I had a coupon and the cost of him putting the 2 faucets in even with my coupon was more than my regular plumbers charged me just to put the 2 faucets in in my other bath. I had my regular plumber come and he just put the other faucets in for me because I had 5 faucets I wanted replaced, and all I let him do is 2. I had the other 3 done for less than what I paid Tarvin for the 2 with the coupon. Either he was just young and inexperienced or he just wanted to turn it into a much more expensive job, and I didn't like that. I felt like I was being played. Based on the other comments that people put in there, maybe they have some good plumbers but the one they sent out to me was young and inexperienced. I thought they were overly priced. He is probably learning. He also put scratches on my chrome faucet that he put in. As for their responsiveness, they came fast. I paid $159. It was actually $269 but I had a coupon so it brought it down to $159. It was only $148 for my other plumber to do the same thing without a coupon.

They were great.  They were really good.  They found it pretty quickly and they did the least amount of damage to the walls as they could, they had to cut the walls.  They were professional, they were on time, and they cleaned up.  They offered to have a contractor come out to fix the wall but they were pretty backed up and again it was not their fault.  We needed to have it done sooner because we had a party we are referring.  I like that that they cleaned up after themselves and they were pretty efficient.  I felt the pricing was pretty reasonable for what they did. They got out very quickly.  We called a couple of people and they were the ones that pick it up the quickest.   I have no complains with them.  I would used them again and I would recommend them.
