I cannot say enough good things about everyone at Karl Mattes Co. Karl himself came out and gave me a good and fair quote. He actually was able to fix something that 3 other fireplace companies said they couldn't fix. The receptionist was incredibly friendly a the two guys that came out to do the work were prompt, knowledgeable and kept the areas very neat and tidy. I am so glad I found them on angie's list. I will use them again and again!

I had a minor leak in my roof near a chimney.  They made the necessary repairs in a timely manner for the price they quoted.

Karl Mattes' crew inspected and cleaned a chimney at my house.
Unlike many contractors who give you several hour range of time, they said they would be there between 8:30 AM and 9:00.
They were there at 8:45 AM  sharp.
Although I was a little surprised at the quote for bringing a video camera, and had declined that service, they did provide pictures of the chimney interior.  They had some recommendations, but did not try to sensationalize or hard sell me on upcharges.  
They did their work very efficiently and gave me some useful feedback.
The price I was charged corresponded with what I was quoted.
They come recommended by Bromwells, and I would recommend them as well.

Very well.  Two nice guys arrived on time, did a good job and didn't leave any mess.

Fireplace firebox was tuck pointed to repair and return fireplace to a safe operation.

They also do roofs and gutters and I am going to call them for an estimate next spring.  Very satisfied.

I couldn't be happier with the visit - it went extremely well - it's always good when a company shows up when they say they will and are prepared for the visit..  There was no hard sell to provide any services or repairs.  The inspection was very thorough - walked the entire roof, checked shingles, flashing, etc.., and identified the suspected problem area.  Also went into the attic to confirm the leak was occuring at the same point as the problem he found outside (even measured the distance inside and out to make sure they matched up.   Then scanned the entire attic to verify there were no other leaks we hadn't yet discovered.
I will report on the costs and other work performed after we get the estimate and decide to move forward with some additional repairs.

We are having him do the work. He sent a paper, and we signed it and sent it back. We chose him because we have had him before and he does excellent work. It is professional and to the point delivery of what it is that we want and what it is that he can do.

Called to set up appointment was very easy. They called to confirm before coming. Worker showed up on time and was polite. Told me what he thought my best option was and that I would receive quote in the mail. Received quote and only didn't chose this company because we went in totally different direction to fix this problem.

Too long ago to remember details. Worker performed tasks in a workmanlike manner. Very satisfactory result.

The work was completed during the week of 1/28/13 through 2/01/13.   Work involved erecting scaffolding, removing the old chimney cap and top two layers of bricks.   New bricks were laid, and a new cement cap installed.   The bricks were pressure washed a couple of days later, and the forms and scaffolding removed at the end of the week.   I supplied new bricks to match the existing bricks from bricks saved during construction of my home.  My only complaint was the inordinate amount of time between the sweeping of my chimney on November 28th, the inspection for the quote on December 20th, and finally receiving the quote on January 10th.  I realize that the Christmas holidays were during that time, but waiting more than three weeks for the inspection/work scope, and then another three weeks for the written quote seems excessive.  Their person who performed the inspection and prepared the quote was very nice, and took off some cost that would have required Mattes Co. to buy/match the bricks needed for replacement.  However, the office scheduler could use some training in customer relations and attitude.   A littany of excuses accomplishes nothing but to irritate the customer.  Overall my experience was excellent. 

I was very pleased. They arrived on schedule, gave me a reasonable estimate, and went right to work. This is a large, tall chimney serving a fireplace in our living room. It hasn't been used in years, has had some squirrels in resiidence, and I was concerned about the dirt and debris that could spill into our living room. Not to worry. They put tarps in front of the fireplace and a vacuum in the fireplace to capture falling dirt and dust. When they finished I saw no sign of any dirt escaping into the room. I'm sure the job was more work than they might have expected, but they stuck with the original estimate. A very satisfying experience.

The gentlemen were very helpful and I would recommend them to anyone.

Everything wen't well

Serviceman introduced himself, was very professional and pleasant.  Brought in and placed floor covers from the door to the fireplace, covered the hearth, and used shoe covers as well.  Once setup he spent about 30 minutes cleaning the chimney, and entire service call took about 40 minutes. I had left ash in the fireplace from a fire a few weeks ago, he cleaned the ash as well as the chimney. Everything was spotless when he was done.
He removed all the floor covers, placed the living room table back in its original location, then presented me with the service bill and self-addressed reminder card.  Thought he did an excellent job, and I will use them for my next chimney cleaning.
