We were initially very happy, but then the problems began:
- Cincinnati Concrete was supposed to get the appropriate permits, which they did not. I received a letter from our village permit division saying there was no permit after the job was done. I contacted Cincinnati Concrete and was told it was more complicated than they thought but they would do it. A week later I received a phone call from the village permit division saying there was still no permit. It took me about 5 minutes and $80 to complete the permit.
- a few weeks after the job was completed we noticed a crack running across the width of the driveway. I contacted Cincinnati Concrete, who told me they would come out to look at the crack. They did not, so 2 weeks later I basically threatened them with a bad review and they came out. They said it was due to shrinkage and they would fix it. One month later it still wasn't done, so I email them again. They said they would come out and I gave them a deadline of end of October. This came and went. We had to send another email again threatening to complain. Someone came out the next week and patched the crack.
- the patch of the crack looks absolutely terrible. It doesn't match the rest of the driveway and looks like something I could have done myself.
I was initially happy with the work and we received a number of positive comments from neighbors. However, I am very disappointed in the follow up. I would like the crack to be repair to our satisfaction and to be refunded for the permit costs.
"We did take too long to repair The crack but we've been battling weather conditions trying to coordinate everything. We did the repair and didn't hear anything else and thought there was no problem. We wish if she wasn't happy with it she would've responded to us to allow us to make another attempt. The crack is a hairline crack well within industry standards and no contractor can guarantee a hairline crack will not appear and we went out to do repairs which most contractors would not have done. We are willing to go out again to make an attempt to improve the repair. Thank You Cincinnati Concrete Solutions"
"Thanks you so much for the kind words it was great working with you Scott Cincinnati Concrete Solutions"
This experience has, unfortunately, been entirely different and we are left in the position where all we can do is comment on the experience here on Angie's List.
As stated we had the driveway replaced in Oct. 2014 without issue. Our contract (and payment) included Cincinnati Concrete Solutions coming back one year later to power wash and apply an Aquapel sealant. At Scott's suggestion, we agreed to wait until this year to seal the driveway. Starting in July 2015 we reached out Scott to start the process of scheduling the power washing and sealing to (1) give them enough time to schedule us before the end of the season and to (2) have the opportunity to meet with Scott to discuss ways to remedy two trouble spots with the workmanship of the driveway (a significant crack in one of the slabs as well as a spot that his crew patched with QuickCrete during the initial pour), prior to the end of the 1 yr. warranty.
To date (31Oct2015) we have contacted CCS by phone, email, and his website 10 different times and Scott has either not responded at all (8 of the 10 contacts) or has only responded that he'd get back to us with times he would come out (the other 2 times). We have given him more than enough opportunity to complete the work and are left with feeling that we've been completely cheated.
So, currently we:
1. have a driveway with a significant crack and a spot that was "QuickCreted" during the initial job
2. have a driveway that has not been sealed over one year later
3. have paid upfront for work (power washing and sealing) that has not been completed.
We are not ones to rate vendors badly, but again we feel totally cheated in this situation.
"Our apologies to Keegan for not communicating better. We had talked to Keegan and scheduled to do the work on 10-16. Do to weather issues we weren't able to do the work and on the 24th I emailed Keegan to let him know we were going to hold off for a couple weeks to allow the leaves to fall off the trees then come in and repair, clean and seal. I explained we'd complete the work no later than thanksgiving. I'm hoping to still have the opportunity to make this right for Keegan. The work we have completed on his 2 properties was very professional but my communication to Keegan in this situation has not been and I apologize for that. Thank you"
When the time came for them to come out, they let us know that they had received the contract for a much larger job, and would have to reschedule for late October/early November. We agreed to that and haven't heard from them since. We have sent multiple (five or six) emails and left numerous phone messages with no response.
Had we known they didn't intend to do the work, we would have tried to find another contractor to do the work. We believed that they intended to do the job, but a month of complete non-responsiveness tells me they never intended to do the work.
"I'd like to apologize to the[member name removed]s for the situation that occurred I did not handle the situation in a manner they deserved. When I saw that the project I was on was going to last another 7 weeks I didn't know how to tell them we still couldn't do their project so instead of just facing them I avoided them and I am going to learn from this and the next time a situation like this arises I will continue to be upfront with the homeowners and help them get their job completed. Thank you"
I found this extremely unprofessional and now a having issues getting in contact with the service provider.
I even gave the workers a tip in good faith for the that they done as it was dark when the work was finished and to come out and see the mess they have left is very disappointing.
I am now experiencing issue contacting the SP and they refuse to call me back and discuss the problems they caused.
There was no follow up on the work since they left the job, seems like they did not care about their work.
They worked all day on the first day getting everything framed and poured, with the pattern and color I selected. The next morning, they came back to seal the patio. So, in about 1.5 days, I had a new patio done to my specifications. I waited about a week before setting out patio furniture but, I am very happy with the look and the work, so far. We also get a lot of compliments about it. So, I'd have to say it was a job well-done.
"[MEMBERS] were great to work with and were thrilled with the porch we installed. shortly afterwards they were concerned that the decorative edging was a little slippery. I told them we would apply a sure grip additive sealer to the edges. I agree it absolutely took my company too long to do this but I believe it was 6-7 months later I sent 2 of my men Shawn and Tony to apply the sure grip. Again I took too long to do this but after it was applied I didn't hear anything from the [MEMBERS] so I assumed it resolved the issue. This was done in 2013 and I recieved this on 2-22-15. If the [MEMBERS] still have a concern I would like the opportunity to resolve it. Thank you Scott"
There are also several very long cracks in the concrete, which leads me to guess that the base under the concrete wasn't sufficient or packed down. No way to know for sure, as we've never been able to talk directly to them.
The bottom line is if there are any problems with the job discovered after the fact, expect that you will get zero follow through and no satisfaction.
Changing my grades quite a bit, but they've had every opportunity to do the right thing, and here we are.
Job #2: Shawn and Tony came, consulted with me on how I would like the second step to curve and made a couple of suggestions. They then completed the step, finishing it beautifully.
This second step addition was several hundred dollars less than the lowest estimate I received from other companies.
"I contacted the homeowner and Angie's list to try and have this complaint removed because our company did not work for this family. I believe they have us confused with another company with a similar name. We are hoping for this to be removed as soon as possible. Thank You Scot Jaeger"
