Over all I would recommend Barkers TV Repair to everyone. I was very happy to have someone that was honest and not just out to get every penny he could. I did get another TV and I plan on writing Samsung about the TV. I have stood behind them for many years and I feel they have really let me down. I do want to say thank you to Barker TV repair and Angie's for doing what you do.
Description of Work: I had a flat screen new Samsung TV. I had bought this with money I got from my Father's estate. I thought I had spent this money on something that would last a long time. When I called Barkers TV Repair, I was very upset at the thought of this almost new TV having problems. The gentleman that I spoke with was so kind and understanding of my feelings. I told him what the TV was doing, and I would not be able to bring it in, because of my disability. He told me the price for them to come out and to find the problem with the TV. I knew right off I could not afford that much money. He could tell I guess that I was not going to be able to pay to have the TV repaired. He told me from what I was telling him the TV was doing it would be in my best interest to go get another TV. He did not think it could even be repaired. A couple of hours later my son came over to visit, and he looked at the TV one second and said it was not able to be repaired. He would know, He worked with them for sometime. I felt like the gentleman at Barkers was very honest, and saved me a lot of money and even more heart ache.

Called to make appointment, discussed price of service call and diagnostics. Said he would come out first thing the next morning between 7:30 and 8:00 AM and would call about 30 minutes before his arrival. He arrived on time was very professional, asked type of problem I was having with the set and I explained to him. He then checked set and found the problem in about five minutes, one of the projection lamps was leaking onto the power board and had damaged it. We then discussed options and estimate to repair. He advised that I would be better off buying a new set since the technology of old set was becoming outdated. When I asked if he had a brand preference he offered a couple of names. He was forthright and honest, and seemed to know his stuff. He was willing to answer my questions and seemed very personable. I paid him the amount that he had set over the phone, excchanged a few pleasantries and was on his way. He had done everthing I had asked and I would definitely use his services in the future if needed.
Description of Work: Checked Rear projection TV set and gave estimate of repair.

I called Barker TV, spoke with Tom, and described the problem (we had green and magenta shadows on everything, double images, and a sort of loop drooping down from the top of the picture as well as a loop coming up from the bottom of the picture). Tom scheduled the repair for Saturday around noon; he said the repair person would call before coming and said it would be Noon or a bit later. I was thrilled that they were able to do this so I didn't have to take off of work for a weekday repair. Their charge for the service call and diagnosis of the problem was $40 and would be applied to the cost of the repairs if we elected to go ahead with it. This beat a $129 service call price plus an additional charge for a diagnosis that was quoted to me by another (non-Angie's List company); both fees would be included in the cost of the repair, but I felt like the $129 was pretty steep. Rob called a bit before Noon to get specific directions to the house and arrived at about 12:20 as he said he would. He knew exactly what was wrong, said this is a fairly common problem, and told me it would take about an hour and a half or two hours to fix. He was very professional - he brought in a drop cloth to protect the carpeting from any solder that might drip (nothing did). He fixed the problem and reassembled the TV in the time he said it would take. And a bonus - we had recently had HD cable installed, but were still not getting and HD image - Rob was able to show me how to set the picture size and aspect ratio on the cable remote(something the installer failed to explain to us). I am very happy with Barker TV - they really know their business, and I would recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: The circuit board that controls the convergence of the three color beams on our rear projection large screen TV (Mitsubishi) needed to be replaced. The front and the back of the TV had to be disassembled, the old circuit board was removed, and a new one was soldered in place.

The technician made an appointment for the same day I called and arrived promptly. He very quickly diagnosed the problem. Once he had convinced me I should invest in a new TV he made sales pitch to buy a new plasma or LCD TV from him.
Description of Work: Made a service call to determine why TV was not working. He found the problem and advised it would be better to get a new technology TV than invest several hundred dollars in old technology.

Tom was prompt and professional. He told us it would be worth fixing the TV. He knew exactly what was wrong with it and what it would cost for parts. He had told us over the phone what the service call charge would be and that is exactly what he charged us. He also gave us some advice on what kind of TV to buy, based on what he was seeing when he was out on repairs.
Description of Work: TV was flickering off when attempting to turn on. Tom came out to check it and determine if the TV was repairable.
