Done Right Decks and Fence

In the beginning everything was good then Skylar from Done Right Decks added an extra $7,000 to the original estimate he said in person. In the beginning he was going to fix our front porch with the one side dipping down to the right from a rotted post & replace everything on front porch then for our back of the house he was going to add on to our mudroom, put a bathroom in there, replace the outside deck & put a roof over the back deck. His first price was $30,000.00 to do everything then when we went to set a day to sign papers the price went up $7,000.00. I felt that was a lot to go up in price so Skylar said he wanted to get his foot in the door & he would charge $8,000.00 for the front porch & he would be doing the work himself. I first wrote out a check to Done Right Decks and Fence, he took the check the next day to cash it at my bank. The bank would not cash it for Skylar because he is not a customer at Huntington Bank & it was written out to a company. Skylar then asked if I could write another check to him but I wrote it out to Patrick Schuyler Pierce & on the contract he signed his name as Skylar Pierce so I just assumed he wanted me to write it out to his birth name. Skylar said he could deposit the check I wrote out to Done Right Decks and Fence but the check won’t clear until 7-8 days & I probably don’t want to wait the long for him to start work. Which made sense to me. That $8,000.00 was to tear down, put up new vinyl post, new vinyl railings with black rods, new composite deck flooring & that would straighten out the roof. He started work October 31st 2024, maybe worked a couple hours, he came the next day & did not do what he said he was going to do & again maybe worked 2-3 hours only. Nothing really was down besides pulling down the ceiling of the roof to see the wood, taking my hooks off my beams where I hung hanging flower baskets. Skylar said he was going to be the only one working to keep labor down then he started using the excuse he can not come work at my house because his worker called off. My front porch is not huge & he could be doing stuff by himself but I kept my mouth shut & just kept saying ok & thanks for updating me. Skylar asked for an extra $3,000.00 because he said that would be the cost of the new beam plus the cost of labor for his workers since the beam is heavy. So he got another check $3,000.00 written out to Patrick Schuyler Pierce & he went toFifth Third bank to cash it & again he was not a customer there. Our banks call us to ok if someone cashes a check if they are not a customer & it’s a big amount. Days went by he did not come to work, he missed so many nice work days. I had to text asking what happen he never came to work. He told me this would take 4-7 days to get done. He ended up putting the beam up by himself which he asked for $3,000.00 to help pay his workers for that. His worker only worked with him 2 days. Again not working a half day or full day once. Never worked even 10 hours a week. Then kept saying the material was ordered. He said he would need another $5,000.00 because to fix the roof & have it not be dipping to the right side or he can still finish the work but the roof still will be dipping down to the right. We said we want the roof fixed & he said ok. Skylar then asked almost a week later if he could have the check. Now the floor of porch is torn out & railings plus most of the shingles he took off but I have no material on my property & the only new stuff he has done at this point is poor concrete footers, put up the new beam in front of porch which is not the right size & a couple of post. I wanted him to keep doing more work then I will pay him the $5,000.00, I gave him $11,000.00 & not trying to be rude but I don’t have close to $11,000.00 worth of work or material done. So Thursday November 21st 2024, I was done with the excuses of not working, not having the $9,800.00 worth of material he said he paid for on my property or showing me receipts. I told him I want my money back & he came over, I never kicked him off my property but he just kept asking for more money which was $5,000.00 then he said just pay me $4,000.00 & we will be back in the morning. He never came to work at my house until 1-2 pm & would leave between 3-4pm on all work days he did. I asked Skylar to show me the receipts when he was last at my house which was Nov 21st 2024, I asked him to bring the material to the house & start working then we will pay him more. He brought up me taking him to court & I said I did not say I want to take you to court why don’t you just bring the material here, he said why would he leave it at my house. Again I never said I want to take him to court, I would like my money back or have him bring all the material & start working then I would pay him more. He took the 2 post they were on his jack’s under middle of porch & put them up front which are the wrong size & put them on the footers wrong without brackets on them. My roof is not supported good with the new post. When I did not want to give Skylar the extra $3,000.00 after he got $8,000.00 he said he would never screw me. It’s hard to get on Angie’s List, that is a crime, his wife would kick his butt. Well Skylar has not returned any calls or text since he left November 21st 2024. My last call was December 9th 2024, I do believe he blocked me since when I do call his voicemail picks up right away & he simply won’t call me back to make this right. I am hoping you can help me. I just want my money back, I had another contractor come look & go over an estimate & I was told the beam is the wrong size, the post are the wrong size & should have the post with brackets on the footers. I saw all of this but they confirmed it & my roof is way worse than just dipping to the right, it now leans forward & does not have good support if we get a lot of snow. Since Skylar is being the way he is with not calling me back, text me back, dropping off the material he bought with the money I paid him. I do not want him doing the work at my house & just want the $9,800.00 he said he used for material.

Provider came out and provided detailed estimate. We signed the contract and paid a 65% down payment to cover materials. My front porch, which is the main access to my home, was removed as planned on September 4th. I was told I would be without a porch for about a week. It is now October 17th and I still do not have a porch and Done Right Decks has been unresponsive to me for 3 weeks. My calls go straight to voicemail so I assume he has blocked my calls.

The provider came to our home and explained the process of having the deck removed and gave a 2 week estimate on completion from the start date. Provider came on 8/7/24 with his nephew and tore down 1/2 the deck. returned on 8/8/24 and tore down the rest. When asked where was his dumpster he replied it would be here this week. He started removing some of the decking in his truck. After not hearing from him for a few days, on 8/12/24 he was called by both myself and my husband. He returned the call two days later stating that "he would be at our home within the next two days and that the project would be completed on time." The provider showed up on the 15th and took some more of the deck in his truck and loaded up all his equipment and never returned. Several phone calls were made to him and he never returned our calls. Since the contract completion date was Sept 6, 2024, my husband said give him time. Well, time has run out. He still has not responded.

They were great! Did a fantastic job.

Very good, everything was done correctly and to our satisfaction.. We were happy with the outcome of the job,. The deck will last forever with the way it was constructed..

Was very professional, completed a 7 by 13 deck, with a roof. Couldn't be happier! Finished ahead of schedule in time for Mother's day!
