"We would like to thank this member for the complimentary grades on our professionalism, punctuality, and responsiveness. We are not familiar with the other company mentioned here and therefore cannot speak to all the reasons why they may be so cheap. However that they would be able to do the work that we evaluated for the price as described is somewhat surprising to us. As registered and insured professionals in this industry with well over a decade experience working with homeowners, city building codes and inspectors, the estimate we offered this member was with consideration of the city requirements for a project such as this one. In this case the city required permits for the general work, as well as both a registered plumber and registered electrician, all costs that are beyond our ability to control. It is our position that permits are mutually beneficial to contractors as well as homeowners. The required inspections ensure that all work has been done correctly and complies with all city and safety codes. As a local, customer service driven company it is important to conduct our work in a manner that breeds trust and offers transparency in our partnerships with our clients. While, permits are not the most costly part of the job, the requirements and accountability that come with them often are. In this situation, it is our professional opinion, that having the work completed outside the local government requirements, that we, as a professional general contractor are bound to, would definitely account, in large part, for the possibility of cheaper work. We sincerely wish this member all the best."
"MHR is a Design/Build company. We typically do larger, more multifaceted projects than the one described here, but we get MANY calls like this from Angie's List Members because of the large volume of quality reviews we have in our industry/area. When we get calls for projects like this and we feel that because of our current commitments it would take too long for us to get the job on our calendar, or because of location/distance it would not be cost-effective for the homeowner, our desire to be helpful usually takes over and we try, whenever possible, to recommend another industry professional better suitable for the job. Sometimes we take a homeowners information and try to pass it along to someone we trust to do good work. We do this in the spirit of trying to be helpful and serve our greater community as an industry professional. Whether or not the connection between the homeowner and the one we recommend (or pass the info to) works out or not is really out of our control. We are sorry if this member felt slighted by our efforts to steer him in a more appropriate direction. We do make mistakes from time to time and will reconsider whether or not there is a better way to still offer “free advice and referrals” without an assumption that MHR is responsible for the third parties follow-up. We still encourage homeowners to call and would like them to know that we believe in mutually beneficial projects; those that work best for the homeowner and for MHR. We understand that we are not the best fit for every situation under the"home improvement sun" and we wish every homeowner the best of luck with their endeavors."
Budget: An along with the draws outlined. The cost fell within my budget. Other estimates received for the same work was well over the final cost.
Contract: The contract was broken down by fixtures/and other material (tile/hardware/fixtures/etc). This assisted in knowing the allowance for each item when picking the material out. The contract was well written and had the draws outlined so I knew what to expect. The final payment was a bit more than I anticipated but this was due to some changes I had made along the way (which I knew would cost more, but did not verify the cost). After explanation, I felt the changes costs were fair and reasonable.
Design: We knew what we wanted from a layout perspective, for the details Diana worked with us to firm up our decisions and also offered samples of the tile, vanities and countertops. This really helped to put the pieces together. She gave us names of places to pick out the fixtures and tile. By having the allowance numbers for all the fixtures and tile, I was able to make decisions on where I wanted to splurge or stay within my budget.
Work: The workers where on site as promised and worked all day. They arrived promptly in the morning and were very pleasant, including working around my 2 dogs. Demolition went as expected, with a minor issue with the debris pickup being delayed over the weekend (the debris was stacked neatly in back of my house). One area that could be improved was to block the return in my furnace to prevent the demo debris from falling into the return. This was a minor issue, and I made sure the filters were changed regularly during the entire process. Once drywall was installed, this was a non-issue. Brent/Diana were available anytime for any questions or problems. As the work moved into the finish work, there were some unexpected delays due to the countertops drying time that was not accounted for. The work did drag out a bit longer than anticipated, however the end product was worth the wait. All of the subcontractors involved arrived on time and were pleasant and thorough.. All permits were pulled as expected.
Countertop: I can't be more pleased with the countertop which was suggested by Brent/Diana. The countertop is Granticrete, which was custom painted to look like granite to my specifications. All I can say is WOW! The final product is amazing and everyone cannot believe it is not stone.
Brent, Diana and the workers were very conscientious and willing to work with me through any issues that came up. They strive to keep the customer happy.
Inspection: Once all the work was done, Brent came and gave a final inspection of the work and did any minor cleanup work. He was very thorough and noticed that there was a defect in the faucets. He is working now to fix this issue to my satisfaction.
I would recommend Moore Home Remodeling to anyone. They were a pleasure to work with.
Brent has been wonderful to work with because he is so flexible. We wanted to do most of the work ourselves, and he was prepared to work as an advisor and to put us in touch with the people we needed to do the jobs we couldn't do.
Because we were finishing the basement in our spare time, we needed flexible help, and the team were always able to accommodate us.
All the people he sent us were professional and courteous and any issues were quickly resolved. Finishing a basement is never a walk in the park, but Brent and his guys certainly made it as painless as possible.
"We are disputing this report with Angies List. As we find no record of a contract with this Member."
"Unfortunately this seems to be a case where a home owner gets too many estimates. This person did call and was informed that we where not able to help them. I did give her a referral who, as I understand, spoke to her about do the the work. I believe I am being confused with other contractors that did not call back."
I could not be happier with the finished work and would highly recommend Moore Home Remodeling.
As the project kicked off, the crew that did the work arrived every day at a consistent time and got to work. I was there to see their work and progress and they worked hard, consistently, and showed up every day to do work. Any time an issue came up (as there were surprises because of attributes of my older home), Brent always came over immediately, explained the issue in detail and gave us options. Brent was always accessible and responsive and I appreciated it. At no point did I feel like my project was stalled or off track. I felt like I got full attention.
I really did appreciate Brent's work style. I feel that he was always honest with us and he did right by us in all situations that came up. He had a tremendous attention to detail and ensured that our project was 'right' and corrected things that our eye did not pick up.
The key points about my kitchen that I think really set it apart and I think are a direct reflection of the excellent guidance/work I got from this company: 1) my cabinets are absolutely beautiful and are of excellent quality - for what I paid I got every pennies worth; 2) my granicrete countertops that are truly a masterpiece work of art. My countertops were done by Rodney who is clearly an artist and created a phenomenal look for my counters; 3) the design of my kitchen and how it is configured is absolutely fantastic; Diana took an incredibly small space and made it incredibly functional as well as appear to be triple it's size; 4) my marmoleum click floor; Diana gave me the courage to use this product and the design that the crew was able to install from my "vision" is absolutely beautiful.
I would highly recommend this company
The finished products in both the master bathroom and the family room look very good.
One small issue was that the tile person damaged the hot water tap in the bathroom while ripping out the existing tiles.
But Brent has been prompt to make several trips to fix this problem once it was detected (after the bathroom remodeling work was completed).
Both Brent and Jay (who was in charge of our project before he quit MHR) were very responsive and showed personal interest.
"As the member indicates, Brent and I (Diana Phillips-MHR Designer/Estimator) did arrive on time to the scheduled appointment. Unfortunately she was not there when we arrived. We waited about 5 or 10 minutes then called her to see if she wanted to keep the appointment. She did and arrived about 5 minutes later. She was hurried as she explained that we should go to the front door and wait while she took her toddler in through the garage and took the dog out to the back yard. When she came to the front door apologizing, both Brent and I introduced ourselves and told her we understood, these things happen and it was alright. Perhaps this was a confusing moment where details were missed. While the member was explaining to us the work she was looking to have done, she also expressed dissatisfaction with some of the choices they had made, in an effort to cut costs, when building the 3 yr old home. From my perspective, Brent was empathizing with her and in fact pointed out that some of her choices would actually keep her costs down, as budget was one of her main concerns, on the current project. As we concluded our appointment the member again expressed unhappiness with some color choices that a friend had helped her pick out and she was "talked into". We both tried to reassure her that the colors looked nice. Brent did suggest that she might have liked one wall in an accent color. It's regrettable that she took our comments personally; this is what we do. We discuss the things homeowners are not happy with concerning their homes and make suggestions. We both thought and commented that her home was well decorated, however, she was at times distracted by and apologized for her toddler. We again reassured her that he was adorable and she didn't need to apologize for his very talkative nature. We were trying to hear the details of what the member wanted, through a few common distractions that we deal with everday: pets, children, unexpected delays, while trying to reassure her about the issues she seemed frustrated with. We are surprised and disappointed that it wasn't received that way. Lastly, our appointment was on Tuesday afternoon and although there was a slight delay because because Brent sustained a non-job-site related injury on Thursday, for which he spent the day in the ER, and we were closed for one day to celebrate the Forth of July holiday, we did have her estimate delivered to her within four business days. I must say, that although we are disheartened that apparent miscommunications occurred, her insticts are correct when she writes, "He seemed to really know what he was doing and I'm sure he does great work". MHR truly wishes the member the best with her project and hope that she gets to enjoy as much of her pregnancy soaking in a new tub as possible."
Throughout the project, Brent kept us informed on the on the status of the project. The crew was very professional, courteous and cleaned up after themselves on a daily basis. Plastic runners were also placed on the floors/carpet from the house entry up to the bathroom to keep dirt/dust off. Project was completed on time and within budget (Note: The painting of the ceiling was not in the original budget, however, Brent did it at no charge).
The bathroom and shower look beautiful and we couldn't be happier. We highly recommend Moore Home Remodeling for your remodeling job.
