"This is not at all how we conduct business but we do need to take ownership of this incident. We always try to take care of our customers asap but with it being winter time and our repair crew making their own schedules, this repair did not get completed as timely as it should have. Mr. Watson, the owner, was diligently calling the crew to take care of this problem. They were telling us they were on their way so without us knowing, the crew was a no show and the repair did not get completed. The crew has been dealt with and we do apologize for this incident."
"Work was completed in 2012 and this is the first our company has heard of any problems. We stand behind our work and reputation on each job we complete. Therefor, if the problem was reported and was an error due to the install process, we would have made any repairs needed to ensure proper flow. With that being said, after gutters are installed, there is yearly maintenance that is the homeowners responsibility. If the yearly maintenance is not kept up, the gutters will not work properly causing overflow in areas and for the gutter to pull away from the gutter board. Its fair to say we do not know the specific cause of the problem without an inspection."
It went horribly. Between July 8th and September 8th, the job STILL hasn't been completed and I have been forced to hire another contractor to finish the job. We're not building the World's Fair here. It's a roof on a garage.I decided on Advanced Home Services because a friend of mine works with them. I trusted my friend. I got the bid and put down $1000 for materials. The work was to start sometime the week of July 8th. I believe they started Thursday July 11th. They finished shingling the roof on Friday, July 12th.
As they were tearing off the roof, they showed me that the soffits (the roof's overhang) were rotted. Okay, I saw it. Yes, it was in bad shape. The construction foreman said it would be easier and cheaper to saw off the dovetails (the joists that stick out and support the overhang). I gave the okay and they cut them all off, changing the whole look of our garage. After cutting off the dovetails, there was a huge gap between the wall of the garage and the shingled roof. The foreman Ken told me another company would be coming by to do the gutters and downspouts. He said they would handle the gaps between the wall and the roof.
The roofing people left. They left the construction dumpster in my driveway. I had to call Advanced Home Services to find out when they were going to take it away. We live on a very narrow street with cars parked on both sides. Putting the dumpster in and removing it from our driveway required me to knock on my neighbors' doors and ask them to move their cars. This was not easy as some were not home.
Another week goes by.
A week later, the gutter and downspout company still had not arrived. I called Advanced Home Services. They did not give me a time when the gutter people would be there. I told them to have the gutter company call me so I can make sure my wife nor anyone else was parked in the driveway.
Finally, the gutter guy calls and says he'll be there in 20 minutes. I told the gutter guy I wanted some advanced notice. He smugly told me that he could always come back another time. I wanted to go over the job with the gutter guy because of the gaps in the wall. He told me he would call when he got to my house. He never did. When I got home, I was livid. It looked like he stuck the gutter up in 10 minutes. He screwed the gutters into the side of the garage. The edge of the gutter looked like it was going to pull right out. The gutter was angled horribly. In addition, it was all twisted. He did not remove the old downspout- just left it hanging there. There was no drip edge. And of course, there was still those huge gaps between the wall and the roof.
I called my friend who worked with Advanced Home Services and let loose on the guy. He apologized and scheduled to come by on August 7th along with the owner of the company. When the owner got there, I just pointed. I wanted to see if he would admit it looked bad. Both men agreed it was a really bad job. Greg (the owner) promised, promised, promised he would make it right. He said he would do the trim all the way around and the gutter on the one side for no charge. I wanted the second gutter on the back side as well. I decided that it needed because I didn't want to flood my neighbor's basement. Since it was not in the original contract, I agreed to pay for it additionally. Fair's fair.
Two more weeks go by. No word from the gutter people. The final straw was the severe rainstorm. Worst rain of the summer. My family was all dressed up for a family function. My wife had her hair done up, all beautiful. But unfortunately, there was a sheet of water coming down the door of the garage. We were all drenched. But hey, that's okay. Our gutter and downspout were still sitting over there in yard.
Another week and a half go by. Finally, Greg's man comes by to work on the trim to the garage. He actually does an acceptable job (it's not pretty, but it works). Okay, I feel optimistic that this is finally going to get completed.
A mere 3 days later (today), Advanced Home Services calls me. Their book keeper wants to close this out. She asked how quickly I could settle the bill. I told her I would wait until the other contractor finishes THE JOB. As soon as the new contractor finishes the gutters (and I pay him for his help), then I would deducted what I paid him from AHS's bill.
On Tuesday, September 3rd, I called Advanced Home Services and fired them from the job. The very next call was to another contractor, who is actually scheduled to come out and fix Advanced Home Services' incomplete job.
And the punchline: The book keeper asked me when the gutters are going to be installed. Poor woman. I just laughed at her.The silver lining is that this was relatively small job. I'm thankful I didn't entrust them to handle my house's roof or equally big job. I think the main problem Home Advanced Services faces is lack of organization. Lack of communication. The gutters are handled by a different company. There is no coordination. And I suspect that they prioritize the most expensive jobs first. Well, this garage was a priority to US.
I would caution people against using Home Advanced Systems.
"Advanced Home Services (AHS) is in sincere apology to [member name removed] that he was put through undo stress. AHS made an honest effort to remedy the situation. As [member name removed] stated, the work was to be done on a roof that “was in very bad shape.” AHS scheduled for roof repairs and replacement to be done within a timely manner. The job was tough and went beyond just replacing shingles but the work on the roof was completed and completed “well” (in the words of [member name removed]). Upon replacing the damaged roof decking and framing, our crews noticed that the condition of the supporting walls made it virtually impossible to attach the gutters; the walls were bowed 4-6 inches. In undertaking a job in this condition, there will be unforeseen delays and complications. After our crews noticed the conditions, they were reported to our gutter subcontractor. He did not communicate with the homeowner or take the time and effort to make the right adjustments to successfully complete the job. This caused undo stress and much frustration to [member name removed] and AHS. The lack of professionalism of our subcontractor made AHS look inexperienced. AHS took the responsibility of the faulty job of our gutter subcontractor and sent one of our employees out to correctly install new gutter boards (not included in scope of work), which needed to be attached to support the placement of the new gutters."
"Advanced Home Services (AHS) apologizes for any stress placed on (removed member name) and his wife. That was not our intent nor what our company is about. AHS was aware of (removed member name) closing date at the end of July. Our contract with (removed member name) was signed on 6/25/13. This gave us about 4 weeks to complete the roof replacement, siding replacement, replacement of gutter screens, fascia metal and window wrap, and power wash the fence. This work involves 4 different crews all with different fields of expertise. This is a lot of work to get scheduled completed in 4 weeks. Also, we had to deal with some weather related issues which delays scheduling of work. AHS is in our peak season and we feel we went above and beyond to have the work completed by (removed member name) closing of the property. We moved multiple jobs around in effort to meet (removed member name) needs. (removed member name) reported his concerns of the clean-up of our crew, left materials, and damage of back door frame before AHS field supervisor had a chance to complete the final field inspection. Upon this inspection, the issues would have been resolved regardless of (removed member name) reporting of the issues. By the day of closing, all work was completed and satisfactory. AHS does not feel that all of our efforts made and work completed warrant a low grade (C) because our company went above and beyond our duty to complete all the work in a short period of time."
"We regret that we were unable to completely remove the "hump" that existed in the framing of your roof. The issue was not a shingle or roofing issue; it was a framing issue underneath the roof decking. This should have been the responsibility of the builder. We addressed the problem to the best of our ability without compromising the integrity of your roof framing."
