"Thanks for the kind words. We enjoyed working on your project, both of you were very accommodating, and showed your appreciation to us every day. We would love to do future projects for you both."
"Thanks for the work. We enjoyed working with you both. It was an enjoyable challenge to renovate your bathroom."
"Thank you for the work. We hope to return for some laughs at a later date (lol)"
Sal and Dustin arrived early each morning. This was a pleasant surprise since previous contractors had always arrived late. Sal communicated well and informed me of steps along the way. When I explained that I wanted to have the vanity set away from the wall, Sal tried very hard to get it as far from the wall as possible yet have sufficient space for the adjacent toilet. He took measurement after measurement and even thought about whether he could move the toilet to accommodate my request. This is when I realized how much care he put into his work. Unfortunately, we weren't able to move it over enough to have the visible pipe underneath the sink centered. The pipe was offset which I had not expected however I believe he tried his best. Another example of his diligence is when he thought about using a quick drying compound to install the floor tile. However, before doing so, he called the manufacturer of ditra (the anti-cracking membrane that he installed as a layer underneath the tile.) When he was told that the warranty for the ditra would be voided if he were to use the quick drying compound, he did not proceed with that even though it would have saved him time.
There were a few unexpected obstacles that came up during the job but Sal fixed each problem in the best manner possible. For instance, he repaired an old leak in the toilet pipe that was "fixed" by a plumber we hired over a year ago. Sal explained that the plumber had done it improperly which is why it ended up leaking during the demo. I feel confident that Sal repaired this the correct way and can see the fine workmanship that went into this. In addition, as Sal promised, he had performed some miscellaneous tasks in the adjacent bathroom which had nothing to do with the bathroom he was hired to work on.
Sal is extremely knowledgeable and he not only explained things to me so I knew what to expect, he explained things to Dustin too. Dustin is new to this profession although he said he has had passion for this business since he was a little. This was apparent when I watched Dustin patiently absorb the mentoring from Sal. Dustin was quick to respond and assist Sal and was very polite. I have not always found this kind of respect and patience with the younger generation.
Sal also offered options and opinions which I appreciated. He suggested to use the same tile used for the shampoo box as a border treatment to the opposite wall. I did that and it looks beautiful. He stacked the tiles up very nicely and one could tell this was done professionally. Importantly, Sal and Dustin were very careful. I didn't have to worry that something would get damaged while they were working. They were also very neat and cleaned up before they left each day. All in all, the bathroom is now exactly how I had pictured it to be. This may sound trite but given the bad experiences I've had in the past, I am too well aware that things can turn out quite differently than what one might imagine.
Thank you, Sal and Dustin (and Dean who worked the week that Dustin was on vacation -- Dean was great too.).
"We apologize for the missed appointment. We had some family matters come up and were not able to contact you the day of the scheduled estimate. We would like to come out and take a look at your project if you will give us another chance John Russo"
"Thank you so much for the kind words!!!"
"glad we were able to help"
"Thank you for all the work. It seemed to be a little rocky in the beginning of the project, I realize it is hard to believe what contractors tell you but we try as hard as we can to live up to our reputation. I am happy you both love the bathrooms and hope you always keep us in mind for any remodeling projects. Thanks so much. John"
We were very pleased at the outcome. The bathroom is just beautiful!
If you want your job done right the first time, hire John Russo.
"Thank you for taking the time to write a review about my company. It was a pleasure working for you, even though the lower level bathroom was a tough tile job. You and you wife are wonderful people to have met and had the pleasure to work for, and thanks for dinner John"
"thanks for the wonderfull review. It was a pleasure working with you Thanks again John Russo"
"Thank you both for the great review, it was a pleasure working with the both of you."
He began work on the small powder room and then when it was complete he began work on the foyer. He tried to make renovations as minimally disruptive as possible. As each phase of the projects were complete he would go through all of the details relating to each project and would adjust anything needed to our taste and preference. He is a detail-oriented perfectionist who is not satisfied until his customers are beyond happy. His work ethic is exemplary, as is the quality of the finished product. When he found sub-standard insulation in the walls, he replaced it. In fact, any problems he found (and there were many) he promptly alerted us to and fixed - on his dime.
Additionally, and very importantly to us, he is kind and dog-friendly. He goes so far above and beyond as to call me if I've been gone too long to ask if he should let out the dog. He helps me carry in groceries, unload my car, and anything else he can possibly do to be helpful. If customer service, professionalism, talent and honesty are important to you, there is not a better choice than John Russo. He is, hands-down, the best. I would whole heartedly recommend him to anyone.
"Thanks for the great review. I have been working in this business for 30 + yrs. It is very rare that I find such wonderful people to work with. I had great pleasure working on your project, in this business almost all customers are on the defensive, reason being so many people have been burned by contractors. I can honestly say that if all my customers were like you and your family (bubbles to)it would be a joy to go to work. I appreciate all the projects that you trusted me doing and hope to stay in touch in the years to come. You are simply the best!!! Thanks again John Russo"
Once we decided to go with John, It was about a month before he was available to start. In the meantime, we ordered all necessary fixtures, tile, etc., except for the glass shower doors, which John ordered from a separate supplier. Once started, he was there every weekday, and working exclusively on our job. He even picked up all of the fixtures and tile from our supplier as it was needed, and saved us the delivery cost and having to store everything in the house at one time.
Work progressed smoothly, and both bathrooms were done in about 4-5 weeks. There was a mistake that the glass door supplier had made with our order, but John took care of rectifying it. John was quick to take care of any other minor issues that came up. He stuck to his original estimate, even though we decided after the project started to add more tiling.
The end result was 2 beautiful bathrooms. We are very pleased with the work, and are even going to hire him for a 3rd bathroom remodel.
I would highly recommend John Russo owner of JR Marble Tile without any reservation.
A month later my shower door exploded. I had picked a cheap door from Lowes that they installed for me, and it seems that heat from my fireplace traveled into the bathroom and pushed on the glass door causing it to fracture and shatter. I called Sal, and he worked diligently with the manufacturer to get me a replacement door. Both he and Mike came back as soon as the new door arrived and installed the replacement quickly and without extra charge!
These guys do the job well and I would recommend hiring them for any tile job you need.
Our first floor is not level in several parts of the house, due to the fact that the builder did not do a good job in laying down the slab work. But, as difficult as it was, using a combination of leveling cement and building up the underlying thin set, we had leveled flooring by the time John finished installing the porcelain floor tiles. The crew of All Star Woodworking, who made and installed our kitchen cabinets, commented on how level the floors were such that it minimized any adjustments that they had to make.
Since we liked the clean look in how the wall tiles and the floor tiles looked in our master and guest bathrooms, we asked John if he could do this for our dining room, kitchen and foyer. Since our walls in these rooms are drywall, and the floors are tile, the usual procedure (and the simplest) would be to use a baseboard at the joining areas. John agreed to do this for us, even though this meant more work for him (i.e., more taping at the base of the drywall and more precise cutting of those floor tiles meeting the base of the drywall). Since the completion of this project, we have had many comments from visitors and friends on how lovely the floor looks; we attribute this to John's quality work.
To define the kitchen area more, we had John construct a new wall that was the same depth as the wall near the refrigerator. Even though John's forte is his tile work, his construction work is not shabby either. His work here was just as professional, resulting in a wall that looked sleek, clean, smooth and neat.
What we like is that John is very keen and sensitive to our design ideas, is open to them, and is willing to involve us in finalizing our decisions. We wanted the three different shades of the blue subway tiles for the kitchen back-splash to be laid randomly. John had us lay out the tiles on the counter first, to insure where we wanted the colored tiles placed, and to be sure we were satisfied with our "random" look. At one point it became a fun game. As he was applying each subway tile on the wall, he would
ask which color to place next. So, whatever we shouted out, that was the next color applied, insuring the randomness and having to think quickly. Amidst the random tiles were two decorative tiles that were placed in specific spots of the kitchen (one over the center of the sink; the other over the center of the oven). John had no problem balancing the random subway tiles on both sides of these decorative tiles. When Peter, the owner of All Star Woodworking, came to inspect the final result of his crew's installation of the kitchen cabinets, he paid John the ultimate compliment when he said to us, " John really does do outstanding tile work!"
There are many good reasons why we chose John to do our three home improvement projects. As mentioned before, he is extremely knowledgeable in all aspects, especially in tiling, plumbing and electrical. Most important, he is very ethical, honest, sincere and trustworthy, which makes you feel completely satisfied that quality work has been done without "any corners being cut." More often than not, he goes above and beyond, without asking for extra compensation. It is difficult to always find great service people to do work for you. When you do, you hold on to them. That is why we had continued to contract John to do all our projects. We have done a lot of house renovations in the past six months. We owe John a great amount of gratitude in his contribution of transforming our home into truly a dream house. Hopefully, we won't have to do any more home improvements for a while, but should we need to , we know that we will not hesitate on calling John. It is without any reservations whatsoever that we recommend John Russo for any home improvement projects that you may consider.
John continued his excellent work in renovating our guest bathroom. This part of the project included gutting out the bathroom and removing the bathtub. John then proceeded to install new wall board, recessed lights, ceiling vent fan, electrical switches, a GFI compliant outlet, toilet, and new plumbing fixtures. He also expanded the door entrance width from 24 inches to 28 inches. But John's forte is his tile work. John especially took great care in installing the wall tiles and the floor tiles. As he did with the Master bathroom, the floor work included the use of leveling cement, followed by a layer of Ditra, and then the installation of the floor tiles. The tile work in the shower area is really the showpiece of the guest bathroom. All our guests have commented how impressed they are with the tile work there, especially the glass tiles in the center of the shower area, and the mosaic ceramic floor tiles. On the center wall of the shower area, a beautiful job was done in installing a panel of glass tiles consisting of 1x2-inch glass tiles of varied aqua and turquoise colors. In terms of the shower floor tiles, it should be noted that the small mosaic floor tiles came on a square nylon-netted 12x12-inch sheet. However, instead of laying the tiles down as assembled on the netted sheet, each tile was removed from the netting. John then took the time and effort to lay each tile individually to create an artistic flow for the shower flooring. During the tiling of the walls in the shower, John installed a quarter rounded seat in the corner of the shower. Finally, he installed clear glass nosing and framed a wall-to-wall mirror with 4x4-inch blue tiles.
For the loft/staircase area, JR Marble removed a solid bannister wall so that a cable railing system could be installed to open up the viewing of the loft and staircase area. So that bamboo flooring could be laid down, John removed the existing carpet on the loft and staircase leading down from the loft. He also installed new tiles for the laundry room. Finally, new French doors (5 glass panels, Douglas fir) were installed for the master bedroom and a one paneled glass door was installed for the guest bathroom. John proceeded to frame each door with Douglas fir. The cracks on the wall along the staircase were repaired. New recessed lights were installed for the loft/staircase area. As displayed in the attached pictures, one can see how John was able to transform our loft/staircase area into a showpiece that draws one's attention upon entering our home through the front door.
For the powder room, after removing the old floor tiles, John installed a new ceiling vent fan. Once the new floor tiles were laid, he installed a new toilet and new plumbing fixtures for the vanity. He also upgraded the electrical outlet to be GFI compliant. John finished the bathroom by installing decorative red glass tiles to form a back-splash for our floating vanity.
As with our Master bathroom, John was able to transform the guest bathroom, loft/staircase area, and powder room as we had envisioned and designed. We were so pleased with his work that we also contracted him to do the rest of our first floor project even before he had completed this project. It is without reservation that we continue to recommend John Russo.
