After talking to electrician, to avoid upgrading existing panel, we had to change configuration that I originally picked. That was no problem for Paul. He actually spoke to the electrician to make sure the option was a sensible one, and emailed updated price quote document immediately. The estimate was done by the end of May 2013.
After that, we signed contract, Paul ordered equipment. By the end of June, equipment was available. Due to our vacation etc. we had the installation done in the second week of July, right in time for the hot hot summer.
Paul's crew, Raj, did a wonderful job installing outdoor units, indoor units, duct work in the attic. All work was cleaned up perfectly. There was no mess left from the work. And the crew always arrived on time, behaved professionally.
The AC really made a huge difference for our family in the hot summer days. In westchester, there are about 3 weeks each summer that the temperature got really hot, and our old house. which is a cape cod style, the up stairs can get really hot, over 90 degrees. I am so thankful that we barely noticed the hot temperature outside once AC is installed. And the Mitsubishi AC is so quiet that I barely notice it running. Really, it is true. I used to hate window AC because it is so noisy and disturbing, we have to yell at each other when the window AC is running.
Coming into October, we could turn the AC into heater as it is dual mode. One zone the unit is not generating heat for some reason. I emailed Paul. Paul was being very responsive and sent Raj to my house the next day. It turns out, the electrician installed 110V outlet for this unit instead of 220V. So the electrician was called in and fixed the issue. Now I am going to use the unit for heating in the winter as well. As they can be individually controlled, I expect to save some $$ on my heating bill this winter.
I want to thank Paul and his team for doing a wonderful job. You have truly showed professionalism in your job. I would recommend Paul to any of my friends/co-worker who needs AC installation.
The $140 initial service fee seems like the average (Yost and Campbell mentioned the same amount, another company in YOnkers did mention a cheaper $85 amount but they were not available until after the weekend).
So this fee seems like the average going fee. Maybe should be a little cheaper like in between at $100 for being a smaller company but being a smaller company made them more available to me on the same day (Yost and Campbell did not even return my phone call to confirm that they would be coming. They just showed up after I had already had my problem taken care of).
So overall, good, straight forward and honest company to deal with b/c of Raj.
We called Paul at Absolute Comfort.
They were there within hours and diagnosed the problem and fixed it immediately.
Reasonable, clean and reliable
Appreciate it.
Always prompt and pleasant to deal with-I really wish everyone we've worked with in updating our house was like Paul. He did what he said he would, when he said he would, for the (very fair) price quoted. The house was empty when they did the work but whenever we checked in it was spotless after they had left. He even did all the rebate paperwork so we just had to add our Coned acct #. His assistant was also great to deal with, and they went above and beyond to fix things when it turned out the electrician we had hired had done some things incorrectly in wiring the system. If you asked me what he could be doing better I really wouldn't have an answer, and I think anyone looking to add central air would be well-served in calling Absolute Comfort & Temperature Control.
They explained that the wiring from the boiler to the thermostat was faulty. This turned out to be untrue. When I called another heating specialist, the other guy simply opened a valve and fixed the issue. He said there was no problem with the wiring. I understand if they aren't able to fix it, but I wish they hadn't told me information that wasn't true. I'm not saying they just made it up, maybe they just weren't as experienced - but I was worrying for quite a while about a wiring issue unnecessarily.
I appreciated that they only charged me for an hour's work when they spent a bit longer.
The story does have a happy ending though - the owner followed up and offered a full refund. It turns out the people who came to my house were cooling experts and that the guy in charge of heating was out of the country. So I do think this is a good and reputable company and would use them again, especially for cooling.
We compliled a simplistic RFP request and sent it to two companies we have delt with in the past and after their site visits, got rather aggressive quotes. There seemed to be a reluctance to bid for the attic replacement and the bids were in the $14'000 - $17'000 range for both zones using 16 SEER units that we needed.
Not being comfortable with what we were seeing, we subscribed to Angie's List and completed more research. This research yielded Absolute Comfort and Paul Gomprecht. We found dealing with Paul on getting a bid and product information quite easy. He was very responsive to our questions. Of the three companies bidding, Absolute Comfort's bid was for Luxaire equipment which was an upgraded replacement for the same brand of equipment we had. The other two companies submitted bids on Carrier and Lennox brands. Our web research revealed that of the three products, Luxaire was not the higher rated (all brands were close to each other) but surprising, all three brands were not that well regarded by consumer postings. Most negative comments we read seem to be with installation issues and/or service issues. We reflected that for the past 12 years that we have owned the home (we are the second owners), we have not had any serious issues with Luxaire so were not influenced away from Luxaire.
Paul's teams installed the two systems and modified the upstairs return to accommodate a filter (avoids having to climb into the attic to change filters) all in around 4 days. The work was done in a professional manner and left the work areas clean. So far we have been very happy with our new units and are very comfortable with our decision to use Absolute Comfort for the job.
We would highly recommend Absolute Comfort based on our experience.
Paul came here a year ago to give us an estimate to install Mitsubishi Split air conditioning throughout the house. He gave us separate estimates for the upstairs and the downstairs. I have to mention that the estimate process alone was a lot of work for Paul. Paul measured every room and looked at the basement and the attic. We decided against having the work done,
Last month we decided we needed to replace our noisy window air conditioners so we contacted Paul to do the downstairs only. We specified that we wanted the work done at the end of April. As requested Paul contacted us in mid-April to notify us that the job was scheduled for April 24th. They came promptly at 9 AM on the 24th and started work. They were very conscientious and worked continuously. The technicians were professional, courteous, and friendly. They were very careful and neat. Cleanup was minimal. We were very impressed with all aspects of the job. Today we are using the unit to heat the 1st floor. It works great - it's so quiet too. I would definitely use them again to install the ac on the 2nd floor. It was a pleasure doing business with Absolute.
Central air was a big investment for us so we had 8 different companies come to give us estimates. We were unsure if we wanted to do a full two-zone central system (one zone upstairs and one downstairs - all would be ducted) or if we were going to go with the split systems (Mitsubishi) that were more energy efficient and would also give us an alternate source of heat.
The Mitsubishi split systems (21 SEER) were a little more expensive than the 16.5 SEER central systems we were looking at - the central systems we priced did not include heat. His pricing was cheaper than the other contractors who gave me estimates for identical work. As it turns out the only thing that took convincing was the look of the split system on my walls in the house. Paul referred us to another home that he worked on and we were able to visit and see the system. These people had nothing but good things to say about the system and added that their oil bills for the year dropped by over 50% since it was so efficient to run these units. Once I convinced my wife to get over the look of the units we called Paul to do the work. It has been about a week since the units were installed and I do not even notice them anymore - they are just another piece of furniture in the room.
Now let's talk about the installation process.
The job took 6 days - it could have been done in 5 if I wanted to rush them but I was in no rush and would not be home in time from work to walk through the system with them anyway so I told them to take the 6th day. The first day that the job started I stayed home from work just to make sure the proper equipment showed up and the placements were correct - plus I wanted to meet his two employees that would be in my house all week. I met Raj and Benjamin who are by far the most courteous and friendly employees of any contractor I've had do work in my house. They were polite and answered any questions throughout the process and most importantly I trusted them in my home for the remaining 5 days. They cleaned up any mess that was made from drilling etc and kept me updated throughout the process. I gave Raj my garage door remote to get into my house each day since my wife and I would be at work. They truly went above and beyond for me and did a phenomenal job - I can not commend them enough. My wife was home sick for 2 days during the process and she was surprised how quiet and friendly they were; for her to say that truly says a lot as she is tough to impress (trust me).
Paul took care of registering my equipment with Mitsubishi and made sure that I knew how to apply for my ConEd rebate(s). Yes I get more then 1 rebate because I had more than 1 system installed. I have all manuals and documentation and have already recommended Paul to a few of my friends. I would highly recommend him to you if you are reading this - give him a call, he knows his business, and will be able to calculate what you really need. He responds very quickly when you call/email him and really is the contractor you are looking for to install an HVAC system in your home. Thanks Paul!
