The siding work itself was good. However there were several mistake which I pointed out which were corrected quickly. It was only after everything was done that I discovered all the things wrong. Rain gutters: At the first rain storm after the siding was done the gutters were overflowing. I went up the ladder to clean out the downspouts. I saw that when the downspouts were put back up they were reattached with screws and siding nails instead of the ¼” white sheet metal screws originally put in by the roofer. I also saw several of the gutter hangers not screwed back into place some were missing screws entirely. Had I not noticed this when the gutters filled with ice and snow in the winter they would have surely ripped out of the fascia boards and would have needed to be replaced. When I brought this to Andys Kapteins attention he eventually returned and replaced the downspout screws and nails with some sort of plastic rivet and not the original screws. He also used 2” coated thin screws to replace the original 4” Aluminum gutter hanger screws which do not have the same holding power. I ended up having my roofer replace the gutters entirely as I no longer trusted the work Skyline did. Broken glass and cigarette buts littered the yard and driveway. A can of spray foam insulation was run over and left on the driveway to harden. The front doorbell was thrown away. A replacement was not compatible so the entire doorbell unit had to be replaced. A custom house number plaque was also thrown away. This has to be replaced as well. When I asked Andy if he knew any concrete contractors that could replace the front stoop and walkway. He said he could replace the stoop and had a friend who did concrete work that could replace the sidewalk. He apparently decided he could do the sidewalk himself. During the construction of the walkway he damaged the conductor that feeds the front walkway and yard lights so the GFCI breaker trips and the lights go off. This needs to be dug up and replaced. To be fair, the walkway itself is nice. They parged the sides of the stoop however they also painted the front of the steps and overpainted on the top and essentially stained the nice new looking sidewalk with different color parging compound. Another contractor called it failing Concrete 101. The cement delivery truck was backed onto the front yard at Andys direction putting severe tire tracks into the yard from the road. A large portion of the front yard had to be regraded and reseeded to repair the damage left by the cement truck when it could have been avoided by using a wheelbarrow to move the concrete the 50’ from the truck to the sidewalk. A cement truck will NOT drive onto property unless so directed. The cement truck driver decided to clean his chute on the front yard and left a 20 lb+ chunk of concrete to harden in the yard that I had to dig out rather than Andy taking a piece of cardboard or wood to collect it and throw it away. Part of the contract claimed that they used a magnet nail hound to clean up the inevitable nails that might be dropped. This was NEVER done. I could open a small nail store with the amount left behind, and that I am still finding! These were not the only issues I encountered. There were issues with 3 pairs of shutters that he forgot about and when he put them up they were not measured the same as the ones he put on the front of the house. He insisted he was correct and I was wrong and proceeded in a series of emails to get nasty and belligerent. Lights that he charged me for hooking up on the garage that were part of the original deal. He claimed in court that they don't hook up lights, yet the did for the lights that were replaced on the front and back of the house. I ended up taking him to court to collect the money I had to lay out to fix and replace several of these issues. He flat out lied in court, under oath and subsequently lost the case. To date I have not been able to collect the damages he owes me. I am currently using the methods available to me to try and collect. Yes, we threw out Adams old house numbers, as we do on every job when we put new ones up.
