I went in for what I thought was going to be quick maintenance on my car. The gentleman at the desk was very nice but, came bearing bad news that my care failed the safety inspection for bad wipers and loose ... I believe it was ball joints. They told me to come out and look at my car and showed me the scrape marks on my window. I told them I had just replaced the wipers the previous month and that was damage made from my old wipers. They had obviously not even checked them but, were wanting me to pay for new wipers. They conceded to let that item go through on inspection and acted as though they were doing me a favor. Then they told me my ball joints were loose and they couldn't let that pass. I can't remember the price specifically but, I remember my jaw dropped. Coincidentally, they just happened to have that part in stock for my car. After the wiper incident, I had my suspicions that I was being ripped off but, had no way of proving it. To make matters worse, I was flying out to Arizona in two days and didn't have time to go elsewhere for repairs or another inspection and my inspection sticker would be expired by the time I returned. I asked if it was normal for these parts to go out with such low mileage. The same guy who told me about the wipers said, it depends on how you drive the car. For someone like him who likes to drive crazy it could happen sooner. For his mom who drives slow... probably not so likely. Again, this didn't ring true as I'm by no means a wild driver. In fact I was a drive test examiner for 18 years and drive very defensively. They made it quite clear there was no grace period on the inspection and I felt pressured to make a decision. I ended up spending the next three hours walking the local plaza's in the rain while they went ahead and did the work. When I returned from Arizona, I checked with my local car repair place and learned that if they had done the work (assuming it was even necessary) that it would have been nearly $300 cheaper. I can't prove they did anything wrong but, it was fishy enough that I will never go back there nor recommend them to anyone.
