I initially chose Capital One since they had the best rates and APR of the lenders I was considering. I got my preapproval easily enough. The problems started during the loan processing stage. They changed loan officers on me multiple times, so I never knew who was taking responsiblity for this. Suddenly, my loan went to a senior staff member who, no less than three times, gave me short notice to come up with an obscene amount of money, otherwise I am left homeless and without my deposit. THREE TIMES! Every time I got the money together, they demanded more, the most recent of which was hours before closing. Oh, and borrowing the money was not an option since otherwise the underwriters would go ballistic. After one such episode, I was told to personally provide a $17K cashiers check to their lawyer's office two days before closing. Huh! What was up with that? Even the lawyer himself said that that was a bizarre request which no one else ever got. In the end, the closing costs came out to nearly twice what was in their "good faith estimate." To top it off, a week after I finally finished this ordeal, someone from Capital One had the unbelievable gall to interrupt me in the middle of my work to ask what I thought of their service. Boy, did I let her know what I thought! She won't forget that for a long time. Bottom line, don't let Capital One's seemingly low rates fool you. The loan processing division is incompetent, irresponsible, and probably in violation of the truth in lending laws. They do not deserve to stay in business. (0)

Wasted over a half and hour of my time waiting for them to take care of their problem.
Description of Work: I have had a savings account at this bank for years. They barely pay any interest, but I use it as a forced savings plan for vacations and put spare money in it. So usually once a month I make a small deposit -- which does build up over the years. So I go in to take out some of it for a trip and I am told that the account is "dormant" . They need all sorts of proof that I am who I say I am and it takes them a good half hour to iron this out. They are glad to take my money, but they make you go through the ringer to get your own money out. Dormant ? they send me statements quarterly and have no problems taking my deposits. I even made a deposit the same day I wanted to take out some money -- still leaving them with a decent amount of money in it.

The mortgage officer that helped us is Steve Skira. I'd say he was great, very professional, responsive, and a good communicator. They had indicated to us that 60 days after the loan, if the rates went down, they would honor the new lower rate.
Description of Work: I got mortgage services from Capitol One recently.
