Home Magic Renovations

This was the second time that we hired Henry DeBoer and his crew after they did a complete bathroom renovation for us. This time, we hired them to renovate our kitchen. Kitchens are always an expensive project but Henry greatly assisted us in keeping the costs manageable. The entire project cost more than $30,000 but that was due to the cost of the cabinets, appliances, tile and backsplash.

The work completed included gutting the existing kitchen to the studs and ripping out a difficult mud floor. The ceiling in my kitchen also provided some degree of difficulty because part of it was sloped. Henry and the crew did a fantastic job installing cabinets, doing the plumbing and electrical and installing all the new appliances. Henry even went to bat for us when our tile provider shortchanged us on the amount of tile we had to purchase. Henry went to the retailer and corrected the problem without having to get us involved.

Henry also recommended the cabinet place, granite fabricator and installer who also did a great job. We are very happy with our new kitchen. It took some time for some of the finish work to be completed but it was worth the wait. We get so many compliments on our new kitchen. We probably won't be doing anymore projects of this size but we would definitely hire Henry to do any future projects. He gives his customers quality work at a fair price. Henry and the crew also went out of their way to keep the rest of our home clean.

The crew came to our house on time as scheduled and gutted the entire bathroom to the studs.  We provided the materials (bathtub, toilet, vanity, sink, shower kit, faucets, counter top, tiles, lights, mirror, grout, etc) Home Magic Renovations Inc.,  completed all the labor (Including plumbing & electrical).

The workers were professional and well trained.  They covered the floors through out the work area during demolition and took care to ensure everything was done just right.

They installed wonderboard on shower walls/floor and used moisture resistant sheet rock elsewhere.  The workers perfectly laid in a new tub, a new shower/tub kit, traps, etc.  Plus, the window in the bathtub was adjusted to ensure the wall tiles covered in properly to avoid future leaks.

The tiles/grout on the floor/walls came out great as did the spackeling.  Henry and his workers also repaired the bathroom ceiling downstairs as well, which was damaged due to water leaks from the old bathroom.  Henry even fixed two other leaking pipes in the house as part of the price.

We were very please with the service and decided let Home Magic Renovations paint the bathroom for an extra $200.  This was our first time using Home Magic Renovations Inc and we were very pleased.  Henry guarantee's his work/quality and has been in business for many years.  We would certainly use him again for future projects.

On May 10, we contacted Henry at Home Magic (along with several other contractors) to provide a quote on remodeling our bathroom and replacing 3 bedroom and 1 closet door on the same floor of our house. Gina from Henry's office called us the next day to schedule an in-home estimate. Henry arrived on the agreed upon day and time to review our current bathroom setup. He was very professional and offered suggestions on what to include and exclude the remodel. At the conclusion of our meeting, he promised to send us a written estimate via e-mail. After several follow-ups, we received the written estimate via e-mail on 5/29/2015.
The estimate contained all of the details that we discussed and was very competitively priced. While we ended up choosing another contractor, we were appreciative of the time and effort Henry and Gina spent on us.

It didn't go. They wasted my time.

My bathroom came out great and I am very happy with it.
I called Henry and his assistant Gina answered. We set up a time for him to come by and look at my bathroom and give an esitmate. He showed up and saw what needed to be done. We discussed a couple of different options and he had some good ideas.
I decided to go with Henry because he made the time to answer his phone and to answer my questions. I am a first time homeowner so alot of this is new to me. He was patient and took the time to explain how it was going to go.
On the day he started he had his team of two guys to help him. They were very professional and hardworking. They were fast! They took down all the dry wall and took up all the tile and brought it out of the house. What I appreciated was that they covered my sofa and tv with plastic and my floor with cardboard. It made the production so much cleaner.
After everything came out, they started right away with the plumbing and the wiring. Henry even put in the wiring and a fan for me. He put in the new shower body for my shower head. At this time he saw that I had a bit of faulty plumbing in the basement so he graciously fixed that. After that was done they tiled. The tile came out so pretty! It is a white subway tile but it came out great. He tiled all the way to the ceiling.
Then he put in the tub. Or maybe the tub went first. I think the tub went first. They were really fast. 
I caught them just in time with the floor tile. He had it layed out east to west, but I wanted it north to south. So watch for that. Fortunately I watching but they are hard workers and don't mess around.
The toilet went in without problem.
Then the vanity he put in for me. The vanity was a return from Lowes so it came without a kickplate. Again Henry worked hard to find a solution. He was able to fix the bottom so it looks finished and polished. He hung my medicine cabinet and that came out perfect too. The light fixture was ordered so it came later. Because of that, he had a little extra time and was able to hang my towel rods and my toilet paper holder. He was also able to install my shower curtain rod.
When the light fixture came he came back and finished the job. 
Working with Henry was a pleasure. He showed up on time. He returned my calls. He worked hard to give me what I wanted. He finished the job. Henry went the extra mile to be sure I was satisfied. I would recommend him to others and I would use him again.

HE MADE A DECISION THE OLD  SCREEN DOOR WAS NOT WORTH FIXING. I WENT ON HOME DEPOT ONLINE. PICKED OUT WHAT I WANTED. HE PICKED IT UP AND REPLACED MY FRONT DOOR . NO MESS , VERY NEAT!

Overall, the work which took 4 weeks, is beautiful. My upstairs bathroom is transformed and the kitchen is now a really nice functional room. The rest of the house was re-modeled and painted except for the bedrooms, which we will do in the future.
I met with Henry twice before the work began and found him flexible and fair in discussing options.
The job began in February; continuing through the barrage of bad snow storms we had in NY this past year..Every morning, on time - Fidel who is part of Henry's crew - showed up and usually grabbed the snow shovel before starting his work inside. Fidel is Henry's main crew man and I was very happy with the work he did and with his pleasent personality.
Henry is also a talented craftsman and his work was good as well. I do wish he was on MY jobsite more than he was, but he was working on various other company jobs.
 After getting estimates from several other contractors, I was confident that Henry was the right choice. His prices were the most reasonable and I didn't mind shopping for the materials. I felt very comfortable with them in the house, even giving Fidel the key.
My main constructive criticism is that they coud have been much more careful with my stuff and neater in demolition and clean-up.
Granted, room was tight as outside was off limits due to the weather.
I would recommend Henry DeBoer to friends.

Henry first came to our house when we contacted him about remodeling our downstairs bathroom.  He came in and gave us an estimate and proposed an idea for a second bathroom upstairs.  Since we live in a cape house, my wife and I never considered it.  However, Henry explained to us in detail that it was entirely possible if we were willing to put in a dormer upstairs.  Also, if we made the dormer wide enough we could install a walk-in closet.  After he left, we talked about the possibilities.  It was great that Henry did not pressure us into doing something we were not 100% sure of.  Gina, from Home Magic Renovations, was often available to talk to if we had any questions about scheduling with Henry.  After talking to some people and much thought we decided to go for the bathroom and closet upstairs.
Henry thoroughly explained to us what the process was to be like.  The peace of mind one feels during such a big project when there are no surprises is invaluable.  He and his crew started the work on time and he was more than willing to work with our schedules.  During the work upstairs, they were always great about cleaning up as the best they could.  The dormer was up and done in a couple of days.  Also, we have pets in the house (we locked up our cats in a spare bedroom, but the dog was a bit of a concern as she would have to go out to do her business) and the crew was conscientious about their well-being. 
Once the work upstairs was done (and it looked impressive), they began the work on the downstairs bathroom.  We were responsible for purchasing the fixtures in the bathroom, but Henry went with my wife to the store to make sure we got the best materials at the most reasonable prices.  The bathroom wasn't updated for what I can guess to be a few decades and was in shambles.  Now, the downstairs bathroom looks modern, clean, and we are no longer ashamed to have people use our bathroom when hosting holidays. 
Once the work was completed, everything was fixed, cleaned, adjusted, and the trash was all put into the dumpster.  The work itself started on March 30th and ended April 19th.  We always had a functioning bathroom (whether it be upstairs or downstairs) during all of the work.  It also helped that Henry is such a personable individual who is great person to talk with. 
For the next big project we do in this house, I hope it is something that Henry and his crew is able to work on because they made the process of hiring a contractor for such a sizable job a much less agonizing experience than it could have been.  I have heard nightmare stories of projects gone awry, but Home Magic Renovations was the best choice we could have made.

Dealing with Henry of Home Magic was a pleasure from start to finish.  He came very quickly to give me an estimate.  We had gotten a few other estimates and his was the most reasonable.  One contractor told me we would need to resheetrock the entire bathroom because it would be more cost effective than trying to remove the wall paper.  That estimate was twice what Henry's was. Henry told me he could remove the wallpaper and would spackle and paint.  He showed up when he said he would.  He was very conscious about putting drop clothes down on our brand new hard wood floors and carpeting.   They were very clean and th This job was finished in 2 days.  Not only was Henry a pleasure to work with, the two men who work with him were equally as pleasant.  I had no problem leaving three virtual strangers in my house.
  
While Henry was working on my basement, my husband and I decided to take a washer and dryer out of our basement since we were no longer using them.  I asked Henry if  he would cap the plumbing for us.  Not only did Henry cap the plumbing, but he sheet rocked the wall, spackled and painted it.  When I asked him how much we owed him he said "nothing".  How many contractors do additional work at their own time and expense and takes nothing for it?  
Henry and his guys did a great job on our bathroom.  I would not hesitate to use him in the future.  I would HIGHLY recommend Home Magic to anyone.

all went well and with a minimum amount of stress to me and my family.........Henry DeBoer was very responsive to my needs and even made suggestions that were very helpful in getting to the correct curb appeal..........it was tough going during the snow storms and the extreme cold.........he always came through for me and did a quality job ; I have used Henry many , many times over the last 5 years and I highly recommend him

Henry came to view the space that we wanted to remodel into a full bathroom. There were several obstacles that that appeared to make the project very difficult and costly however, Henry was not intimidated at all and assured us that everything would go smoothly. He was right.

Henry and his crew showed up everyday to gut, reframe and then started the significant amount of plumbing work that needed to be done. A wall in the existing space had to be moved to make more room for the full bathroom we wanted. Henry rerouted all the plumbing so that this became possible. I was highly impressed at how much complicated plumbing work was done in order to achieve this and yet Henry and the crew were so composed throughout that aspect of the project which clearly was the most difficult and challenging part of the job.

Henry also accompanied my wife and I to Home Depot to pick out tile and other fixtures needed to complete the work and not all the tile was available. Henry and the crew were given the task of giving us a black and white tile pattern without the black tile which was not readily available at Home Depot at the time. It was no problem for them. Henry went out and bought other black tile and made the cuts specific to what the job needed and what the tile should have looked like. They all did a fantastic job. The bathroom now looks like the exact pattern we had been expecting to see. Truly, this could only have been done by someone with exceptional skill and the foresight to avoid a problem.

Henry also picked up all the materials from Home Depot on his own. Even when his truck broke down, it didn't stop Henry and the crew from doing what they needed to do in order to give us a functional bathroom on a timely basis. Even after the bulk of the work was completed, Henry returned to finish installing a window and lock long after he had been paid for his work. This showed us that he was serious about keeping his customers happy.

The old room was disaster area before the project was given to Henry. We were told by other contractors how much of a problem things would be for us to get what we had hoped for. Henry gave us the best options and at a very reasonable price. Henry even started the job and made purchases on our behalf before accepting any payment from us. We now receive so many compliments on our new bathroom and even we can hardly believe its transformation. Henry and his crew did all the work from gutting down to the studs, reframing, plumbing, tile, finish carpentry and painting.

Henry even remodeled our boiler room during the project. We can't say enough about the efforts put forth for that part of the job as well.

We would not have found Henry if it had not been for Angie's List. Henry has earned our respect and trust. He will receive our future projects.

The job was suppose to take 6 or 7 days but ended up taking 11 days. While this was an inconvenience, I was happy that they didn't try to rush the job and give me an inferior product. Also the price they quoted me was the same price I paid even though it took an extra 5 days. There were a few setbacks that were unforeseen. When the new tub I bought was installed the drain didn't line up and they had to chop up concrete to make the drain line up. They chipped my tub by accident. They immediately went out and bought a new tub and replaced the tub. The problem of course is that they had to replace the bottom rows of tile. They did this and you would never know that they replaced the bottom row. It came out perfect. They showed up every morning at 8:45 and left every day between 5:30 and 6:30 pm. I wanted an extra outlet put in which wasn't in the contract. No problem no extra charge. They replaced wood shelves at no extra charge. The end result of hiring Henry and his crew was that I got a bathroom that my wife and I absolutely love. Through out the job they never nickeled and dime me. Other estimates I had said if they had to move a drain or change out any wood there would be an extra charge. As I said they never charged me for any of this. I paid 7200 and got a bathroom that was worth much more. I am already going to hire him for a couple more jobs that I need done.

Henry and his team showed up on time and did a great job. They had to work around a large family (ten children), many animals (including a new and untrained puppy) and were very responsive to our needs. Taking up the original tile ended up being a much more difficult and time consuming project than originally estimated, but they did not attempt to charge us more. They also expanded a closet for us, which was not originally part of our plans. They kept their work area clean, and tried to reduce dust from entering other parts of the house by putting up plastic. Understanding the needs of a large family, they were strategic in their approach to the job in order to minimize our lack of access to things like the washer and dryer, stove, and sink. They worked quickly and efficiently. Communicating with Henry was very easy! We could text, call, email, or speak face to face at any time. He was very easy to work with and I trusted both him and his guys. He didn't pressure us to make additional changes, but did inform us of issues he uncovered along the way and gave us options to fix them or move on. We really appreciate the work he did for us, and the final result is beautiful. Henry is great to work with. By the time the job is finished you feel like you have made a friend and know you have a contractor you can trust for future jobs.

I called Home Magic to get an estimate for a bathroom remodel. I got a call back the same day to set up an appointment for Henry to come over and take a look. I immediately liked Henry as soon as we started talking and looking at the bathroom. He came up with new ideas I hadn't thought of and went over every little detail of the renovation, making suggestions along the way. He really seemed to know what he was talking about as he has been doing this for many many years. Within a few days he emailed me a written estimate of all the work to be done and the price. It was very thorough, even outlining additional services I was considering. My only reason for not choosing him was I needed the bathroom done ASAP as we had gutted it ourselves and were down one bathroom. And due to Henry's popularity he wasn't able to start for about 3 weeks. If I was able to wait I surely would have, as I really liked Henry and the thoroughness with which he went over everything with me.

I made an appointment with someone named Gina , who then called a few days later to cancel. I called again and rescheduled. Henry never arrived on the appointed day. I called Gina. She said she was sorry and she must have made a mistake. I decided not to reschedule.

Henry and his team did a great job! They listened to our requirements and made own professional suggestions where needed. In the result the basement (and the included bathroom) are now very functional as both my office and family area.

The job included new tile flooring, sheetrock, paint, electric, complete remodel of existing half bath.

The job started and finished within very reasonable time frame as well.

I would surely consider them for any future remodeling projects.

Everything went beautifully.  Over 6 to 9 months after all their work has been completed there have been no issues.  During the course of the work they were efficient and clean and did not make any mistakes, errors and did not break anything.  Their suggestions were always helpful and, thankfully, their solutions to potential problems were always economically sound - they looked to save us money.  We would absolutely use them again.

I called to make an appointment for a kitchen remodel & left a message. I got a phone call back the next day and scheduled an appointment. They were right on time and took the time to explain and discuss all our options. He promised a written estimate the following Tuesday and that is exactly when I got it. I did not give them the job because I would have to shop for materials & installation would be done by Home Magic. i wanted to have all inclusive. I would call them again.

I received an estimate for the job but was underway with another provider. I would consider him in the future, based on his responsiveness and price.

Henry was a great find, we called him to come help us with the 2 bathroom leaks that we have now had for 5 years.  Henry was the only one to really look at the issue instead of just saying it was the kids splashing out the tub water.  He was actually here for almost 2 hours on his first visit & came up with a game plan on how to repair the leaks.  First fix was a new shower pan, tiles, we had already exhausted caulk, grout etc & knew we need a new shower.  Henry did the job in 1 day & everything looked great, 1 of 2 leaks now solved.  The next bathroom actually had 2 leaks, Henry fixed the first leak where the tub drain was lose, a little tightening fixed the leak, we still had 1 leak left, Henry came by, ripped the old caulk out of the tub, & redid the poor caulk job I did, last leak fixed!!

Henry is still doing work for us, currently replacing siding on the house which melted from being to close to the barbecue, his next job will be to repair our ceiling.

We got several estimates and options. Although we decided to have this job done by someone else, we are planning on calling Home Magic again for another project. Very professional!

I found Henry on Angie's List. I called, we scheduled an appointment date & time. Henry was prompt, professional, very friendly. Henry sounded knowledgable and skilled regarding the work we needed done. Henry tried to persuade us to go with ceramic tile in stead of sheet vinyl. I am not a fan of ceramic tile so we opted to continue our search.
