My Husband and I purchased our first home, a 1928 all brick Tudor that needed serious TLC, but we had a vision for what it would come to be with the right General Contractor. We went with Siller Brothers Contractors, Pretty Big Mistake on our part in the long run. After living in our home 6 months we have had to pay so much more to fix the subpar job done by these 2 brothers who have poor communication skills between each other as well as their sub-contractors and made many, many mistakes and excuses during the time we were working with them. It's such a shame, we truly thought we made a great choice until 1/2 way into the job there were days not 1 worker was on site, we were given every excuse imaginable from the weather, to the funds, to ?they were supposed to show up so and so was caught up on a job?, even though these 2 signed a contract knowing the terms and conditions of how they would be paid and when they would be paid. Red flags started going up when they installed a basement floor without full consent from my husband and I, due to poor communication skills between each other. We mentioned we were interested in a particular floor style, never that we were 100% going to do it, turns out that floor they had from another job, they were using the overage on our job, came up with excuses that it was of better quality then what we were considering using, and that they were giving us such a good price on it, because it was their error in installing it without full confirmation from us, so we agreed to keep it and let them finish installing it. Turns out they were full of it and we found out after a recent flood in the basement and had to rip it up. The next red flag occurred when they wanted to put our BRAND NEW appliances, dishwasher, refrigerator, Wolf range, and a wine refrigerator, after we informed them both weeks in advance that they would be delivered on that day, these 2 so called professionals wanted to put all of them in the very dirty detached garage that they were using to store building materials in, because they were not complete with the kitchen yet. Their painter was the worst we have ever seen, not 1 drop cloth was ever seen when they were here, and paint splats were all over brand new sinks, tubs, fixtures, toilets, and brand new hardwood floors. The tile layer never grouted my kitchen backsplash and counter top properly, and whatever rag he used to go over the tile with left a residue on the backsplash that took forever to get completely off, nor did he do a decent job in 1 of our full bathrooms. The job began June 2013, we were told the job would be done and we would be able to move in by the beginning of October 2013. However, we moved in 2 days before Christmas, with no heat on our first floor because the plumber they hired couldn't figure out our 2 zone heating system as well as numerous other things that were not finished. A few cracks were found in our foundation during the construction period, which we paid extra to have fixed. The biggest crack that caused major water damage to a newly finished basement, made up of a beautiful playroom for my 2 small children and our only storage area, that crack was never taken care of. We had to rip up that newly finished basement after living here 5 months and throw away so many sentimental items as well as brand new things purchased. A French Drain had to then be installed, which was NEVER a suggestion given by our General Contractor and clearly states in the engineers report that water was in the basement, you would think these 2 professionals would guide us the right way with that making the suggestion giving us the option to install the French Drain before the basement was finished. My husband and I do not have any construction background we thought we were hiring professionals who would guide us through this process of construction and whom we paid an awful lot of hardworking money to do so. Once again, given another excuse from the many we heard during construction, he told us the crack must have happened during the Polar Vortex of 2014. We hired 2 more professionals with years of experience that informed us, that crack was there for years and as a professional our general contractor who we hired should have seen it and taken care of it. Problem was our so called General Contractors were rarely here, and 1 of them even admitted to me on one occasion he should have been here more during construction. The other didn?t work Fridays and very rarely did we see him on a Monday, another shame because he?s the talent of the two who seems to actually handle the labor part of the business. We come to learn during construction, the other brother obviously handles the numbers, but couldn?t possibly have done well in Business Management 101, Math 101, or really know how to navigate his software for the estimates given, some estimates were way off and we had to call him out on them a few times. During construction they dropped off a few of their workers in the morning and well that was about it, I?d pass by various times and ask where they were and their workers would say oh they?ll be back later, that was just to pick them up and I hope check out the work done that day. Also, during that rainstorm in May 2014 when record breaking rainfall amounts occurred, when we discovered water coming in from a crack that was never properly fix, we come to realize not enough gutters were put on the extension that was added to our home and water started pouring in from our foyer into our basement. This time our general contractor agreed he made a mistake and promised to have the gutter sub contractor back to add the additional gutter to handle the water and fix the damage that occurred in our foyer and down to the basement through the ceilings and on to the floor. During this moment of water all over our basement, and countless other unfinished work left in our home that he was FULLY PAID FOR, tells my husband he forgot to charge us $2,000 in overage costs for material price increases, meaning when we first did our estimate with him back in 2012 sheetrock was less expensive then when we finally started the job in 2013. ARE YOU SERIOUS, after these 2 unprofessional, unreliable so called General Contractors were given WAY more than the original estimate, never once threw in any extras, prolonged our move in date by almost 3 months as we were paying for 2 living areas (mortgage, rent, utilities on two homes) and he was paid in full, he asks us for $2,000 as I'm crying my eyes out in front of him wondering what to do next with all this water pouring into my new home. That's like going out to dinner paying the bill, and getting a phone call a few months later ?Um, hey I forgot to charge you for the appetizers you had back in March.? To continue the saga, after all the promises of coming back to fix the damage caused by that rainstorm in May (which my husband and I even offered to pay his workers for the day to fix the damage), and the countless items on the list of things these 2 General Contractors go missing for 2 ½ weeks. No return phone calls, no responses to texts or emails. Finally my husband and I say wow we are really dealing with 2 guys who took our money and left. So what do you do when that happens, we contemplate legal action and by all means who wouldn?t? SO me being the kind person I am, likes to give the benefit of the doubt before we seek legal action, I send my last text advising them if we do not hear from them we will have no choice but to take legal action. My husband gets a text back after almost 3 weeks ?You have threaten to take legal action against us our relationship has deteriorated do not try and contact us any longer.? REALLY, well as I promised because those very nice easy going during construction homeowners have 2 choices LEGAL ACTION, and BASHING YOU...as quick as homeowners find you on SOICAL MEDIA and other places is how word gets around YOU, that contractor, didn't do the right thing. We told them once during construction don?t mistake our kindness for weakness. The list goes on of unfinished items on the so called Punch list of things that were FULLY paid for and were not finished or were done poorly. The best part of this ending is we get countless people who stop us outside complimenting the work that was done here, asking who our contractor was, and we get pure satisfaction telling them not a contractor you want to ever deal with. Right there is Karma, money out of their pockets for jobs they will hopefully never get. Two of our neighbors on our block approached us asking for the referral information, once again 2 more jobs they will never see. What I can say again is that it?s nothing but a shame, and honestly we are not the type of people to ever bash anyone, but after spending so much time and money and being treated so wrong I really can?t let them get away with it, decent hardworking men and women who take PRIDE in their work do not do that to homeowners. It seemed like they truly had good intentions for us, and we believed that all along, but when it came down to that $2,000 and we were not willing to budge on that until the work was completed here, well they changed their tune, and lost hundreds of thousands from future projects in the end of all this, and with all that said, we wish them well.
