The entrance roof separated from the house and was severely damaged and was temporarily propped up by boards so that the slab could be removed.
After an assessment by several contractors it was determined that the entrance roof had to be replaced because of the severity of the damage.
Mr. Tony Mezzacappa agreed that the entrance roof had to be replaced and also agreed to pay half of the cost to replace it.
My contractor was hired to replace the structure for a cost of $1800.
As of this writing Mr. Tony Mezzacappa has not paid for his share of the cost. After many telephone calls and letters to Mezzacappa Concrete there has been no response.
Unfortunately I will now have to use legal recourse to recover the entire cost of replacing the entrance roof.
I am disappointed that a leading Staten Island contractor would not follow through on his commitment to pay his agreed share of the cost of what was truly an accident and damage caused by his workers and supervised by his family
The pavers are in need of repair as they are all lose. In addition, there is a large crack in the one of the concrete slabs that was poured and that needs to be repaired. In the small alley way on the other side of my house we also had concrete poured maybe several years ago. At that time the basement window on that side of the house had to be enclosed due to the height of the concrete once it was poured. However, the window was not properly sealed & water has found its way in
The woman who returned my call basically in a nut shell told me that they do not do that kind of work, that is was a small job and that they are busy. (she was being honest) She also advised me that I should call someone in for foundation work??? I was really quite blown away at her quick assumption that I had a foundation issue. I explained that I did not consider this a small job & the reason why I called them is because they poured the concrete & laid the pavers at my home years ago. I also advised her that I do not have a problem with the foundation. The basement is unfinished, the concrete floors & walls are exposed and the water coming in is directly from the window. She advised me that she was being honest and apologized that hey are busy until November that she was sorry & I could call back then.
A little piece of advice. Have someone with a better disposition and knowledge return your phone calls.
"I am not sure as to why your experience with my company would warrant such a bad review. After reading what you have explained it sounds as if what you were told was 100% correct. Once a window is blocked up it is now considered part of the foundation, it is no longer considered a "window". This type of issue is best suited for a "waterproofer" or someone who does foundation repair. Jesse Mezzacappa"
"I apologize Rita for the misunderstanding. I thought I conveyed the message to you clearly enough to explain the reasoning as to why we wouldn't be able to do a job of such a small scope. We typically try to group small jobs, such as yours, that are in the same area in order to minimize the amount of overhead (materials, labor, etc.) that you would have to incur. We try to be honest in our evaluations of prospective jobs, and rather than over bid or possibly not get around to doing such a small job, we will pass it along to a company that may be more accustomed for that type of work. I believe I also recommended several other smaller companies that would be able to complete your job in a timely manner. I am sorry that you interpreted my explanation as rude and inconsiderate.
