"Thank you for the advice and I will definitely take it under consideration the next time I come across a situation similar to yours. I ask potential customers all the time to send me pictures in order to get a good idea of what we might need to get the job done. While I would love to go to each one of these handyman jobs in person prior to doing the work, the majority of these jobs can be prepared for simply by explaining what you want accomplished and advising if you have the materials on hand. But this was not the case in this situation. The customer described the height of the project and stated that it as something that could be done with a tall ladder which Mike was provided with. The pictures she sent and the information provided was enough to justify the same. I will be the first one to say NO to any job which I feel is out of my league, which might need special equipment or might create an unnecessary risk. Mike made the correct judgement call after he saw the job in person. He felt that the job was more than what was described and that based certain risk factors the customer would be better off getting a professional painter in there with the right scaffolding in order to do the job correctly. The customer was completely refunded and I apologize if she felt that I wasted her time."
"Wromg company."
"The customer purchased a 4 hour handyman service and she informed us that she had purchased all the material and it was ready for him when he got there. I spoke with Dave in regards to this job and he informed me that the customer purchased all the material and micromanaged the entire job. I also called the customer several times and will be more than happy to fix any damage Dave might have done to the door but she does not pick up the phone and her mail box is filled and will not allow any messages. Dave did inform her that the mortises on locksets that she purchased were different and that she asked that he try and use them anyway. The same goes for the door hinges. As she said, “which by the way was because somehow a different sized hinge was in the bag of hinges.” I will take responsibility for not doing my due diligence. Had the customer informed me that these were very old doors and a very old lockset then I would have recommended a locksmith. Based on our conversation I assumed she had purchased the correct locks and hinges. Had I seen them beforehand then I believe this entire situation would not be an issue. So, for now on that is going to be one of my questions as to the age of any door. I also informed Dave to call me immediately if a situation arises where he feels he might not get the best result by using customer supplied material. Again, I do stand behind all the work we do, if there is any problem whatsoever then I want the customer to call me. In her case, I would appreciate the opportunity fix anything that Dave might have damaged."
"The customer purchased an 8 hour handyman service. Originally, this job was to prepare her basement apartment for renting. She needed to have her kitchen up and running which meant that she needed to have new hot and cold shut off valves installed, a new drain line, p-trap, repairing holes in the walls throughout the apartment, installation of upper and lower kitchen cabinets, sink, faucet installation as well as replacing some lighting fixtures. As per the 8 hour handyman service for $500, it means 1 man for 8 hours of service. Both, Mike and I showed up on time and went straight to work. I spent 2 hours replacing and installing all the kitchen plumbing lines so that Mike can install the sink, faucet and countertop. After I was done, I left Mike to complete the job. Technically, that’s 2 hours plumbing and 6 hours for all the other work. But Mike did spend the rest of the day there so that was really a 10 hour job. We did discuss painting the apartment which I gave her a quote of $1800 (1 bedroom, living room, kitchen, bathroom and closets. Paint is extra). After seeing the review I did call the customer and asked her to give me a critique of the review she gave. Apparently this is a situation of unrealistic expectations and that I feel that the review is unjust. She did say that it was in the past and that we should just let it go, but I explained to her the need to find out where we went wrong so that we can correct the problem in the future. She stated that she received a call from Angies list asking her for a review but she stated that she really didn't remember anything except that she was not happy with the fact that we would not paint the apartment cheaper than the price we quoted. So as far as this review is concerned, the price for the work that was completed is a lot cheaper than what it would normally cost. There were no issues with the work we did, especially since we did not hear from her in regards to any problems. We were responsive, professional and on time."
"This customer purchased an 8 hour handyman service deal on 11/9/2015. This project consisted of installing 3 garage HI Loft Systems and 8 Kobalt metal wall cabinets from Lowes. Prior to any specialty projects we look up the installation instructions online and discuss them and any options with the customer. Based on the size of this project and the instructions these items required 2 men for the installation. Prior to the installation date I discussed with the customer the need for the second man and the hope that between me and Mike we would be able to accomplish the job within the original time frame (4 hours). Unfortunately, because of the amount of work we ran over by 4 additional man hours (2) which we informed the customer that he would be charged at the discounted rate for a 4 hour handyman service of $250. From the time the job was completed, 11/20/2015 until now (7 months), the customer did not contact us indicating that there was a problem. Had he done so, I would’ve rectified the problem immediately. I find it unusual that the cabinet pulled away from the walls because we not only followed the instructions to a “T” by attaching the cabinet support brackets to the studs as required but as an added measure we attached the cabinets to each other for additional support. So if the cabinets did pull away from the wall it would’ve been because the customer disconnected them, moved them or severely exceeded the weight limit. I stand behind all the work we do, if there is any problem whatsoever then I want the customer to call me. I reached out to the customer and I’m waiting to see if he wants me to rectify the problem even though the time far exceeds my normal garrantees."
