I got John's name from Angie's list and got in touch with him on just the great reviews he received on here.  I got in touch with him through here and he got back to me right away.  What a nice, honest, sincere person.  The minute I met him I felt very comfortable with him and knew right away that I would use his services.  He inspected the basement for mold which he did find.  Not much mold but enough to see it on the molding.  After asking him if he could recommend someone (he did not offer the names - I asked for them) he gave me the name of two people that I could contact.  I contacted three people and finally went for one of the recommendations he suggested (who was also great by the way). From start to finish it took about two weeks time in total - once the remediation was complete, John came back and did an air quality test which came out fine.  If I ever need this type of work done again in the future (I'm hoping I'm not - no offense John) - I would definitely use him again.  He was great!  Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!

The inspection went very well. John took me through each room and expertly explained the process as he determined where mold and moisture was present and where it was not. I can't say enough good things about HNST Mold Inspections!!  I called them to get a second opinion afterhaving had our house "inspected" by a supposedly "top" company, and we realized that this was a true mold inspection as opposed to the overpriced sales pitch we received from the first company!  John, the owner/operator, spent a great deal of time explaining everything about mold and air quality in general, and he left me feeling reassured and confident about the direction we need to go in.  I would recommend that anybody with a suspected mold problem contact him FIRST, especially since he only does inspections and is , therefore, not interested in pitching expensive remediation proposals!!

John, examined the entire basement thoroughly (our problem area), did a quick check of the main floor, and went up the top floor for a thorough review as well. He used a device that checks for moisture in the walls, used his knowledge of trouble spots, and asked us before pulling back molding and insulation to check dry wall. He found mold, showed us what it looked like, and educated us. It was very helpful. He offered to do air samples as well but we declined.

Everything was great. I chose H.N.S.T based on the reviews here. John showed up on time and was a true professional. He answered every question I had. Gave me great and honest advice, and made sure I was comfortable and all my questions were answered before he left. He took some air samples and got back to me with the results as soon as they came back. I would definitely use H.N.S.T Mold Inspections again if needed.

I had been suffering from recurring sinus infection symptoms for a few months now, and I wanted to rule out any type of household mold contamination as a possible culprit. After investigating service providers on Angie's List, I decided to go with HNST Mold Inspectors. I liked the fact that even though John Skelly (owner) had previously worked in the mold remediation side of the business, his firm doesn't perform remediation, just detection, thus avoiding a conflict of interest.
He was easy to contact, & was able to fit me into his schedule rather quickly. On the date of our appointment, he called  to confirm, and arrived as promised. He listened to my concerns, and performed a thorough visual inspection of every corner of my home (crawlspaces, etc.). After his initial assessment, he was convinced I didn't have a mold problem. Although I was obviously relieved to hear this, I still had him test the air quality in both the cellar, & the living room for my own peace of mind.  Both tests came back negative for mold. The fact that John didn't push for me to have the tests done only confirms that he wasn't just out to make a quick buck.
I can't say enough how satisfied I am with both the service provided, & the professionalism with which I was treated. If you ever find yourself in need of mold detection service, definitely give HNST Mold Inspections a call!

John is very thorough, honest and professional in his approach.
He arrived at the committed time, inspected the areas for Mold and had a high level of patience to answer all my questions. Based on his testing/assessment he provided a detailed protocol for the remediation company to follow, worked through the process with me and conducted post remediation test followed by a clearance letter.
He is very responsive and always tries his level best to accommodate short notice requests including visits during weekend. He has a very fast turnaround on his reports and results, which have been very helpful to act on next steps with remediation company.
I have been very comfortable  in working with John. Importantly, he does not do remediation work and I was able to discuss the scope of work openly without any concern of a vested interest. 

Since he does not do the cleaning of Mold himself, he only tests for it, he was totally reliable, honest and extremely reasonable. he did only the mold testing he felt was completely necessary. I would use him again and recommend him to everyone! Absolutely fantastic!

John was extremely thorough and professional.  He took the time to check all areas of the home and answer all my questions in ways that were easy to understand.  Excellent experience.

John showed up on time, was very professional and thorough, and answered all of my questions. He was even able to get me the air sample test results the next day. His quick and effective service was very reassuring to me.

He found some mold in both air conditioners, but otherwise felt there was no mold problem. John was very knowledgeable about building materials and how mold grows on them as well as how to remove mold if it is seen. He explained that it is the unseen mold that is more of a problem, but not all mold is really dangerous, unless if you are allergic.
I feel confident in his report, and believe him to be knowledgeable and trustworthy. I would certainly use him again if needed.

Excellent.  John was extremely professional from the get-go.  Allowed me ample time on the phone, answering all my questions prior to even setting up our first appointment.  When we settled on a date and time, John showed up promptly and gave my property a thorough inspection.  He probably spent 1.5 hours visually inspecting every crack and crevice for evidence of mold, and also used moisture detection tools and humidity monitors to help determine if there was water leakage and/or excess moisture.  John then took 4 air samples and would send them out to a lab for analysis.
When the results were in, John both called me and sent a detailed email explaining the results, and then wrote up a remediation protocol for the Mold Remediators to follow.  It is important to note, HNST Mold Inspections is an "inspection only" company.  They do not do any remediation work (though John has experience in that field in the past).  This is important because it eliminates any conflict of interest that can occur in companies that do both testing and remediation.  John is working for YOU and only YOU.
So John wrote up the remediation protocol, and then offered assistance in vetting the companies I was choosing between.  He is willing to offer opinions, but will not outwardly push you to select a certain vendor, so that he remains impartial.
Once I selected a vendor for the remediation and the work was complete, I had HNST return for a post-remediation assessment.  I would also highly recommend this to anyone having mold remediation.  At first glance, the remediators did a good job of removing the visible mold.  However, the follow up air samples showed continued elevated levels of mold that required additional remediation work.  Had I not had this additional testing done, my family and I would still be breathing this toxic air.  John continued to work with and answer questions for myself and the remediators until the process was done and my home passed a post-remediation assessment.
I would absolutely recommend HNST Mold Inspections if you suspect you have a mold problem.  John worked tirelessly for my family and took a personal interest in seeing my home mold free prior to us bringing our new baby home from the hospital.  He works with integrity and is knowledgeable, kind and trustworthy.  A++++

When I called late on a Friday afternoon, John answered the phone right away.  He asked a lot of questions so he could get a good idea of what I thought the problem was, what the space was like, etc. so he could give me a good estimate.  Then he clearly explained (with the right amount of detail) what he would do, what it would cost, what the next steps might be depending on what the tests showed.  He arranged to come first thing Monday morning and showed up on time.  He did exactly what he said, gave us a preliminary idea (thank goodness it was clear), and the formal 20 page report with lots of test data came a few days later via email.
