They weren't good at all. The first visit was okay although he was extremely slow. He did stick by his estimates, it cost more than the estimated cost. It's a one man operation on a fairly steep roof which we didn't like. I was not happy about that part of it. He left us with one of the windows up side down, it was still a mess. The first he got it the size was wrong and it was a disaster. When he finally got it done it was November at least, and he started in August so it was real cold and he wasn't able to wash the windows so the windows were dirty. He made my wife extremely nervous because he was crawling all over the place. Couple of times I tried to hold the ladder for him but he didn't need the help. We're not happy with his work.
Response from The Glass Guru

"[member name removed] windows are of a type that the glazing bead that holds the glass in place is almost impossible to get out without damaging it, no matter how careful you are. His particular glazing beads were also very brittle, the windows being 20 years old or so and being in direct sunlight for most of the day. In doing the first window, I quickly saw I would not be able to reuse 90% of the glazing beads, so I postponed the installation to order new glazing beads, so as not to leave the windows at risk without beads, while waiting for the glazing bead to come in. I am very happy I did that, because it took at least 2 weeks to my suppliers to come up with a bead that matched, and, on top of that, the bead was back ordered for another 3 weeks to a month. Frankly, I was happy that we could match them at all. My original price did not include new glazing bead, so it was an upcharge to him. I rarely have to replace glazing bead, since I make every effort to not damage it, and am almost always successful: this time I could not do it. The upcharge was based on actual price of the bead. The window installation took 3 times longer than expected because of the brittle glazing bead, but I kept to the original estimate. I followed safe practices, and no mishaps occured. I don't know what he means about a window being upside down, the new glass fits in either way, there is no upside down. The glass fit snuggly, as it should. Since I use silicone on the outside of the glass to guaranty the units will not move, and the seals fail, silicone inevitably gets on the glass, and cannot be cleaned off, until it fully cures, smudges will appear on the glass. Also, my price does not include window washing. I get them as clean as I can, but smudges will probably occur that cannot be cleaned off immediately."

It took a while for the guru to figure out the fix and his schedule seemed crowded so it took about six weeks from the initial evaluation to the fix.  But I think he did a thorough job in the end and I trust the results to last a long time.  I was happy that he took his time because this appears to be a specialized field.

I called Glass Guru to replace 2 windows that had moisture in between the panes. The Glass Guru, came and stated they had to be replaced. After some scheduling conflicts, he finally came a few days later. He measured the windows, and then I didn't hear from him for over a week. Finally I reached him and he said that  one of the panes of the glass came in the wrong size, so he had to reorder it. After another few days he brought it and installed it. He seemed to have difficulty calculating the bill and even after I signed the contract, he said he forgot to add the sales tax, so I had to pay the additional money for the tax afterwards. I'm hoping that he gets someone to help with the estimating of the jobs, Otherwise he did a good job and provided quality workmanship, especially if you aren't in a big hurry.

He did a very good job and the price was very reasonable. I just loved the way he did it. He did a beautiful job in helping me select the mirrors and in hanging them. He was prompt and he was fine.

In the initial consultation and estimate with Paul, we saved $2,000!  Another company had quoted for complete window REPLACEMENTS.
We live in a log home and each window is 1 large casement with a stationary small glass side.  The wood frame work is very detailed and unique.  The glass on the south and west sides had become so cloudy you could barely see out of them.  Knowing only of replacement, we held off for years because we could not afford it.  The quote we got from another company was for vinyl windows and when I questioned about the wood framing, they said we would not lose that.  And recommended we do a 2 glass slider (less $$).  We went ahead at the time to replace one small bathroom window in the winter because of cracked glass.  We lost all of the unique wood framing (he thought just because it was oak wood on the inside, that was sufficient).  Thank god it was only 1 window!!  Of course, we did not pursue any other replacements.  Frustrated at the thought of pursuing another window company we held off and Im glad we did.  I saw a sign for "The Glass Guru" window moisture removal.  I made an appointment to see if this might be our solution.  We were visited by the owner/installer, Paul Slimgen.  In the first 5 minutes, he said we did not have to replace our windows and lose the beautiful framework.  Paul was very knowledgeable and explained everything in great detail as he examined the windows.  His solution was to replace only the glass on the windows that were permanently stained and remove moisture on the others.  When we talked about pricing all I saw was how much money I was saving versus complete window replacement!
Paul Slimgen is the "Guru of Glass"!!  He was very professional with installation and cleanup.  Paul was not invasive to our home at all and I even left for some appointments.  He is a very honest man, a hard quality to find these days when seeking home services.

Although he has not done the work yet, he did, just as a service while he was there, fixed several windows for me that were sticking and not opening and closing properly.  He also explained why I was having the problems I was having with various windows and doors and he was 100% correct.  Paul is prompt, attentive and honest.  He seems to be looking to SAVE me money instead of spending it....what contractor does that????  He seems extremely knowledgeable and the small repairs he has made for me already (and did not charge me for) has already helped.  I can't wait until he replaces my kitchen window, as it is now, I cannot see out of it as it sits too high.  I will write after to tell of the outcome, but until then my experience with him, to this point, has been very positive.
