I have made small purchases at Pittsford Lumber several times over a few years.
"Thank you for offering a different perspective on our business. And thank you for pointing out that there is no category that fits our business on Angie's list ! For the record, we are not architects, do not do lamp repair, building design or sharpening as indicated ! We are primarily a self serve lumberyard selling supplies and millwork to cabinetmakers, furniture builders and woodworkers. If you want advice on the best product for your project, we will do our best to help you. If you need help finding something in the store, we will point you in that direction. We will cut boards for you so they will fit in your vehicle. We will help you load sheets of plywood that are bulky and hard to handle alone. We offer millwork services if you want part or all of your job done in house. We can lead you to books if you want to learn machining techniques of finishing procedures. However, we are "hands off " as you so well state. We leave you to look, sort and choose your materials. And, of course, we do hope you will approach us if you want some help ! Thank you for your review, as it is a pretty accurate portrait of our business."
"I am sorry to read of this negative experience at our store. We are a specialty lumberyard, and it is certainly our goal to greet each person as they walk through the door. We are at the front counter every day writing up sales, millwork estimates and job sheets, answering the phone, unpacking boxes and taking care of many other details as they arise. Sometimes we are so narrowly focused on working with someone on the phone, or writing a quote on the computer, that we may miss you when you walk in. Sometimes we may erroneously think a coworker has already greeted you. Please realize that any slight like this is not at all personal or intentional ! Someone is always available at the counter if you would like help finding something, or have a product query. So please stop and ask for help at the counter if this is what you want. Hopefully we can point you in the right direction, you will find something you like, and you will be one step closer to completing your work !"
