We went to the MyHome showroom on West 48th Street because we had just purchased a two bedroom apt on the upper west side that needed renovation (new floors, kitchen, bathroom, closets).  One of the employees we spoke with who seemed to be one of the owners or managers claimed that their costs were very reasonable and that they would help us acquire material and appliances at good prices.  We made an appointment with one of their designers to inspect the apartment.  He arrived promptly, seemed very knowledgeable, asked good questions, made useful comments and then sent us their bid.  It was way higher than other bids we had received and when we finally selected a contractor we notified MyHome the reason we did not select them.

Found the sales staff at MyHome to be very pleasant and responsive. We sat in their showroom and picked out new bathroom fixtures, how we would reconfigure some cabinets and build new closets, refinish the existing floors and replace a dining room floor.
There were many mistakes made along the way, mainly inferior construction work performed by subcontractors. Workmanship was sloppy, workers returned multiple times to fix their mistakes. The foreman on my project did not follow up on many issues.
Cabinet maker was very good, he constructed new closets and they were fine. Some design features were not well thought out, such as the poles for hanging clothing were set too low and there was no room for the shoes shelves. It was a a slow and frustrating process to get everything resolved.
The owners finally did step in, about 5 months into the process. By this point I was pretty much done with them, having been living in the midst of the reno and having multiple discussions/attempts to redo too many aspects of the job. They finished late summer 2012.

We knew renovating an apartment in Manhattan wouldn't be a breeze, but the nightmare and delays that MyHome incurred, combined with sloppy work in the bathroom, made for an extremely frustrating experience.
Work began in June and was supposed to be completed by August, however we were only able to move into the place in November!!! We went through three different project managers. The first one set us back the most because he assured us that to move a wall 4ft over (in order to create a den/bedroom out of a dining "L") would be no problem and we didn't need to go through the hassle of getting a permit. Sounds good, right? Well, no, because when the super came up to check on the plumbing work they were doing simultaneously in the bathroom, he saw this and became furious. A stop work order was in place and nothing got done until a good month or so later when we finally had a permit. A similar thing then happened in the kitchen because they forgot to plan for the exhaust vent, which also ended up needing a permit. It was a headache indeed. By the way, one of the subsequent project managers tried to slip a $100 bill to the super in hopes that he would overlook the permit issue!
Also, when the bathroom was finished, there were a whole list of things that needed to be fixed or tweaked - sloppy caulking, not enough grout, shelves not anchored properly and thus not level... These details become very obvious in a small bathroom and you could tell the workers just got it done to get it done. No attention to details whatsoever. They had to come back multiple times to fix these issues.
Overall, I hope that MyHome learned their lesson about trying to skip permits and attention to detail. Working with them was stressful and took much more work on our part to make the end result look as nice as it does. This is not a cheap company and they promised their prices were on the higher side precisely because the work was done so well and meticulously... I guess we missed out on that part!

My interaction with them was positive. They do everything under one roof. They do complete project management. They have their own plumbers and electricians. They only have to deal with one company. That is good. The problem is they are just really expensive. For a really tiny kitchen, they quoted $65,000. They did not even have to do the design work. I already did it; I just want them to execute it. It was a ridiculous amount of money for the work to be done. Everything else seemed good except for the price. If it had only been $20,000, I would have probably said yes.

I personally have recommended them quite often because I think their service is very reliable. They send out a remodeling consultant who takes a look at things. He is a salesperson but at the same time he has the knowledge and experience of a remodeler so he knows what to look at. I was surprised that his estimate was close to what we ended up with. They have been very realistic about what needs to be done in order to do the renovations that we wanted to do and they delivered on time. They do a great job and tried to minimize disturbing our routine as much as possible when they were coming in and out. They cleaned up after themselves by using their cleaning company.

We worked for months with their designer, Ben. He was very responsive, knowledgeable, helpful, and had a good artistic eye and a lot of experience. He steered us correctly on almost every decision. They then obtained all the necessary permits for us, made all the arrangements with our building, and began construction. They just finished--on time, on budget, and the finished product is even nicer than we anticipated. They worked very quickly but carefully--a rare combination. The workmen were extremely nice, always courteous and in a good mood. The foreman was available and responsive. The owner of the business inspected the job regularly, and solicited our input as it went along. I can't imagine a job of this complexity going any better than this one went. We will definitely use them again and recommend them to friends.

After an on-line inquiry, I chatted with a very helpful sales person, who then set up an appointment for one of their people to come out and have a look at our kitchen -- which was totally outdated (since the 1970's at least), with appliances on their last legs.

For midtown Manhattan, we have a pretty large kitchen area, and the renovation had to be complete -- tearing out everything, putting an arched doorway on its entrance, replacing all counters, appliances, flooring and cupboards.

Thank goodness Osh was given our assignment, and took charge of our project.  Working with him was great!
Amazingly, I still like him and have recommended him to friends! He took over every aspect, and absolutely stuck to the promised schedule and pricing limits.  His workers were also efficient and helpful.

The only thing with which I was slightly unhappy involved the height of granite on the window ledge -- something I never even mentioned to Osh and the workers -- a decision taken when I was out of town for a few days.  I decided that what they did was fine, but It is best if one stays on top of all decisions like that -- and I had let the ball drop on that occasion.

Apart from that, the 5-year warranty offered by MyHome -- even on the appliances -- was an appealing aspect!

Mind you, Osh is out of the country right now, and I do need one part of the cupboards repaired.  So, I'll let you know if there are any
problems with their follow-up!

I think we may have spent a little bit more than other places, but they did a very good job. They were always available to answer questions and did good work. Looking back I might chosen another company based on price. I have no regrets though, the bathroom is beautiful.

The head contractor was very responsive. The got the job done very quickly, as well. The floors look nice. There were a few things I wasn't happy with though: 1) they painted the baseboards as well as installed them but they did a little bit of a sloppy job. There is still paint dripped on the wood floors in some places that I can't get off. 2) The workmen were messy - I had to clean pee off my toilet seat! Ick. I was very annoyed about that.

MyHome?s President Mayan Metzler took over management of our project after seven months of incompetence from MyHome's Westchester affiliate. Topping a long list of SNAFUs were MyHome Westchester's failure to add structural supports for the new addition and their leaving our house exposed to the elements through a wet summer, fall and winter. During our first "rescue" meetings at MyHome's New York City headquarters, Mayan gave many assurances that damages and code violations would be quickly fixed by competent professionals (see attached email). Doubts in Mayan, however, began to surface when he postponed telling us for 25 days that we were living in a home that had tested positive for hazardous molds on the new second floor. (MyHome declined to have the heavily-damaged first floor tested). 104 days later, after 27 documented requests, we still could not get MyHome back on the site or agree to sign off on a proposed scope of work. While Mayan was excellent at issuing general calls to action ("Please, let's move forward!"), his true expertise lay in preventing any concrete steps from taking place, especially when such steps carried a cost to his company. Fortunately, we kept meticulous records. When Mayan ran out of excuses he simply reversed himself: No, MyHome would not reimburse our hotel costs while they propped up our house. No, MyHome would not reimburse our out-of-pocket expenses for materials we purchased on their behalf. No, MyHome would not follow NYC Remediation Guidelines for the removal of hazardous mold. No, MyHome would not remove the new windows to install code-compliant sheathing. No, MyHome would not provide written specs for review by the Building Inspector or a Professional Engineer. No, MyHome would not replace their General Contractor with a competent one or the contractor of our choice. Despite all their polite rhetoric, MyHome simply wasn't willing to spend the substantial sums of money required to correct their errors. We were under the impression MyHome's commercial general liability insurance would cover such disasters. Apparently this is not the case. We have filed a legal action against them for breach of contract, fraud and misrepresentation. Thanks to MyHome, our home is in ruins.

We found MYHOME online and called to schedule an appointment. From the first call, we found the staff to be extremely professional and courteous. We were able to set up a meeting right away and had a designer come out to our place. The designer quickly came up with a design that fit our needs. We were worried about how long it would take to go through all of the paperwork necessary to get the plans approved by the coop board, but it was a breeze because MYHOME took care of everything. We never even had to so much as make a phone call to the board ourselves. Next thing we knew, work began. The workers were always on time and finished the project in the exact amount of time we were told it would take. The finished project was exactly what we wanted and we will be using my home again this year to remodel our bathroom.

This was a very smooth process. First, a representative of MyHome came to the project site. He listened to what I wanted. He took my budget into acct. He made suggestions and recommendations. I was then invited to the showroom on a subsequent day. The same individual walked me through choosing materials for the project based on my taste and based on cost. He was clear and patient and made excellent suggestions. Then I was assigned a project manager to coordinate the entire project start to finish. He was truly a gift! The work crews followed all rules of the coop regarding hours of work, clean up of public areas, etc. They were respectful and hard working. There were some glitches and oversights, to be expected, but my project manager was "on it" immediately, and errors were corrected, no questions/excuses, right away. I could call my project manager very easily, or email (direct to blackberry) and he was very responsive. The project was finished in roughly the time expected. the project manager was available even after the project was done, if I had a question or a small problem needed attention. MyHome has a cleaning crew come in at the end, and when one did not do an adequate job, the project manager had another come. MyHome runs an excellent business. They do NOT live up to all the bad stereotypes heard about contractors. They worked start to finish. They made sure all materials were available before they began, so there was no wait. I actually ENJOYED this experience.

It was a disaster. 1. They lied about the size of the job: they said it would be a dust and it turned out to be whole bricks falling from 8 stories up onto my terrace. If someone was there they could have been killed. The falling bricks smashed into a metal intake housing on the terrace and they said they'd repair it...they never did and they don't return calls.

We visited the showroom and were assigned a "clerk of the works." He is a very nice gentleman who visited within 2 weeks to make an estimate. I think that when he (or the company) saw that it was such a "small" job, we were relegated to 2nd class status. Every deadline after that was either miscommunicated or delayed. The sub-contractors were fuzzy about doing their work within a certain time period as well. The fabricator had to redo a section due to mis-measurement. We sold our old appliances and arranged to have them taken on the day that the new ones were due to be delivered. That delivery was delayed at the last minute, and to the credit of the clerk, he went out and bought with his own money a temporary small refrigerator. Sentences like, We'll be there by 10, or You'll get a call back on that tonight, etc. were seldom true, but of course there was always a heart wrenching excuse, including a death in the family and the birth of a baby. Eventually, we had the district manager intervene and he was very helpful. This small job was finally prioritized and finished.

I am happy with the job. The workmanship is average. They promised us a certain week to start and they did not start until two weeks later. The design consultant gave us false promise. We had to stay at a hotel for an extended time because the work was not done. The project manager took over the job and was very professional to work with.
