The work was be be done in phases. The first phase consisted of moving the existing washroom to another location is the house (which would free up space for the master bathroom. This phase when relatively well. Phase 2 was the bathroom installation. Phase 3 was the kitchen remodel. While starting the bathroom install, the provider found part of the floor showed some signs of rot, so we paid him extra to repair it and insure the floor was level. He averaged about 3 to 3 1/2 days work per week; always having reasons why he was late or did not show up at all. He rarely, if ever, returned phone calls. The tiling that he did was of poor quality. Tiles were not flat and patterns did not always match. Grout work was never cleaned up, excess grout on corners was never removed. Other tiles come off with a simple tug. When we told him of our displeasure, he removed all his equipment and just left. A few days later he returned with 2 other workers and worked for one more day. One worker hastily painted without any drop cloths. He got paint on three of my wifes jackets, a television, doors, and floors. He painted over rough patches of plaster without sanding. Corners were never completely painted. Spots were missed completely The second helper tried to fix the bad tiles by grinding them down, or removing others. The tiling looks like it was done by someone who did not know what they were doing. The helper did not make any real progress repairing the original work. The provider then attempted installing a shower door. When he left, we discovered the doors would not slide back and forth. Further investigation on our part showed the doors did not close properly either. They were not lined up squarely. They touched at the top and were 3/4 of an inch off at the bottom. The frame itself had wooden shims the contractor used to try to square it up. The metal frame was cut up to make it fit; this should never happen with new construction. Still looking for answers, we saw the new floor we paid for was not level; it was off by almost 2 inches. Because that was not level, anything put on top would not be level. I'm not done yet. The toilet was not installed yet, so we placed it on top of the pipe to see how it would fit. It didn't. The pipe was placed too close to the shower door; it was just 3 and 1/2 inches away. If a person tried to use the toilet, he couldn't sit, he would be pushing against the shower door. The distance between the toilet bowl and shower door was at least six inches too short. He needs to rip up the tile floor and move the toilet sewer hole at least 6 inches over. The contractor never returned after that. And never returned any phone calls. He also has a $7500 deposit for our kitchen which he was supposed to use to buy the cabinets and other supplies. Needless to say, with this shoddy work, we don't want him to do the kitchen or work for us again.
Description of Work: Provider was hired to build a master bathroom, repair a portion of a bad floor in the bedroom, install a kitchen island, and install new kitchen cabinets and granite tops. He was to relocate an existing washroom with the necessary hook-ups. He was also going to repair a leak on an outdoor porch, repair a hot tub motor, and a few other minor projects.
