About us
Established in 1999, Hub Plumbing & Mechanical is a locally owned and operated plumbing and heating company located in the heart of New York City's West Village. We took over the business of Philip George Plumbing after Phil sadly passed away. We still provide the type of personal service that his clientele were used to, and John Wood, the owner and his dog Chief are a fixture in the neighborhood. We offer a full range of plumbing, heating, and drain cleaning services, and John is personally available to deal with any estimates and service issues.

"AS COMPANY POLICY, OUR LICENSED TECHNICIANS ARE TO PROVIDE OPTIONS FOR REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT. YES, THE MEMBER COULD HAVE HAD THE FIXTURES REPAIRED, BUT THIS WAS NOT A COST-EFFECTIVE APPROACH. WE DON'T TRY TO "SELL" ANYTHING AT ALL, ONLY TRY TO ADVISE OUR CLIENTS ON THE BEST WAY TO PROCEED WITH REPAIRS OR UPGRADES TO THEIR FIXTURES AND EQUIPMENT. THE COST OF THE PARTS IS INCONSEQUENTIAL, AS WE ARE A PROFESSIONAL OUTFIT THAT INCURS FAR MORE COSTS THAN SIMPLY THE TWENTY OR THIRTY DOLLAR ITEM THAT WE'RE INSTALLING (THINK TECHNICIAN PAY, INSURANCES, TRUCKS, EQUIPMENT, PERMITS, LICENSING, ETC). THE PRICE WE CHARGE IS BASED ON WHAT IT COSTS TO RUN A FULL 24-HOUR SERVICE BUSINESS. IT'S UNFORTUNATE THAT SOMETIMES CUSTOMERS DON'T LIKE WHAT THEY HEAR WHEN WE OFFER THE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM, AND WANT A BAND-AID ON IT, SO TO SPEAK. CHANCES ARE ANOTHER PLUMBER WILL INDEED BE HIRED FOR CHEAPER THAN WE WOULD BE, AND THEN SHE WILL HAVE TO CALL THEM BACK IN 30 DAYS WHEN THEIR SHODDY REPAIR DOESN'T HOLD. SHE'LL TAKE ANOTHER DAY OFF WORK TO MEET THE PLUMBER TO DO THE JOB PROPERLY, MOST LIKELY AT AN ADDED COST."
"UNFORTUNATELY, WE CANNOT CHARGE WHAT THE "GUY IN THE BACK OF A PICKUP" TRUCK CAN CHARGE. WE CARRY ENORMOUS AMOUNTS OF INSURANCE, BONDS, ETC. AS WELL AS CONTINUOUSLY TRAINING OUR TECHNICIANS, STATE-OF-THE-ART EQIPMENT AND TRUCKS, COMPUTERIZED DISPATCHING SOFTWARE AND REAL 24-HOUR SERVICE. THE COMPANY HAS A LARGE INFRASTRUCTURE SO THAT WE CAN RESPOND TO ANY CALL, AT ANY TIME, AND THE SERVICE CALLS ARE HANDLED BY A LIVE OPERATOR 24/7- NEVER A MACHINE OR ANSWERING SERVICE. WHAT WE DO DO, HOWEVER, IS PROVIDE OUTSTANDING SERVICE FROM HIGHLY-QUALIFIED INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS AT ANY HOUR OF ANY DAY, FROM THE AREA'S MOST REPUTABLE AND RELIABLE COMPANY."
"WE TRIED TO INFORM THE MEMBER THAT THE WATER HEATER WAS FUNCTIONAL BUT VERY MUCH ON ITS WAY OUT. WE INFORMED HER THAT SHE COULD DO A MAJOR FLUSHING OF THE SYSTEM, TO SEE IF IT COULD LAST A BIT LONGER, BUT OF COURSE WE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO WARRANTY THE WORK BECAUSE OF THE AGE OF THE UNIT. SHE OPTED FOR THE CHEAPER OPTION, AND IT DID NOT WORK. WE DID OFFER TO TAKE $400 OFF THE REPLACEMENT OF THE TANK AS A GESTURE OF GOOD WILL, BUT SHE DECLINED. AS TO THE PRICE OF THE OTHER PLUMBER, WE ARE MORE EXPENSIVE BECAUSE OUR WARRRANTY IS ALL-INCLUSIVE I.E., IF ANYTHING AT ALL HAPPENS TO THE TANK OR INSTALLATION WITHIN THE 10 YEAR TIME PERIOD, WE HAUL IT OUT AND PUT A NEW ONE IN AT NO CHARGE WHATSOEVER. NO ONE ELSE DOES THIS EXCEPT FOR HUB PLUMBING & MECHANICAL INC. WE TRIED TO GUIDE THE MEMBER IN HER DECISION REGARDING THE TANK, BUT IN THE END, SHE OPTED FOR THE CHEAPEST OPTION."
"CONTRARY TO WHAT THE CUSTOMER STATES, THE TECHNICIAN THAT RESPONDED TO THIS CALL ONLY BROUGHT TO ATTENTION THE NEED FOR SERVICE TO AN ANCIENT FURNACE THAT HAD NOT PREVIOUSLY BEEN SERVICED. NO HARD SELL, JUST HELPFUL INFO. THE PARTS THAT WE REPLACED WERE NOT IN "GOOD SHAPE", THAT'S WHY WE REPLACED THEM. PRIOR TO EVER TAKING MONEY FROM A CUSTOMER, WE PROVIDE A TOTAL PRICE, UP FRONT, SO THE CUSTOMER KNOWS EXACTLY WHAT THEY'LL BE PAYING. THE PRICE OF THIS JOB HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE COLD OF THE NIGHT, OR THE TIME. WE HAVE AN OUTSTANDING PROFESSIONAL REPUTATION AND REPOIR WITH INSPECTIONAL SERVICES IN EVERY CITY. HE MARKED US WITH AN F FOR PROFESSIONALISM, BUT OUR TECHNICIAN SHOWED UP ON TIME, UNIFORMED AND READY TO EXECUTE THE JOB ON AN EXTREMELY COLD NIGHT WITH NO COMPLAINTS AT ALL. I THINK THAT THIS REVIEW OF OUR SERVICES IS UNFAIR."

THE QUOTE WAS NOT FOR ONE HOUR OF WORK, BUT FOR SEVERAL, AND IT ABSOLUTELY DID INCLUDE MATERIALS. WHEN THE MEMBER DECLINED TO HAVE THE WORK DONE AT THE PRICE QUOTED BY THE TECHNICIAN, SHE WAS INDEED LIABLE FOR THE $39.95 DISPATCH FEE QUOTED TO HER OVER THE PHONE DURING THE CALL-TAKING PROCEDURE. THE PRICE FOR THE WORK WAS GENERATED BY OUR UP-FRONT PRICING MANUAL WHICH IS BASED ON INDUSTRY AVERAGES THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY. WE SERVICE OVER 10,000 HOMES ANNUALLY AND OPERATE THE SAME WAY, EVERY TIME."
