I am truly so disappointed in Home Depot and their delivery/installation service Home Delivery America. My bad experience began with the Internet order I placed With
[email protected]. I didn't make a big deal about it when I ordered a white, electric, Frigidaire washer/dryer combination, but found when I saw the confirmed order it was for a slate color, gas dryer configuration. Luckily, I caught this mistake before the order went out, complete with hoses, dryer cord, dryer basket to vent. I took off work and waited for my delivery 5.19.15 America Delivery called, and showed upon time. But the man who came up the stairs, perused my set up, yanked my current washer and dryer from its position and told me I'd need 8 foot hoses to go to my water supply not the hoses that come with the machine, and a longer dryer cord and that once I got those they'd return and install them. I and got everything he told me get. We made another appointment for today: 5/21/15. After he left, I realized that when he yanked my machine out, he inadvertently ripped out the wiring for our alarm system. Today, Aftertaking another day off from work Delivery America arrives after 4PM but this time it's a different man and helper. This time the front man is young, tired with about three inches of his underwear showing, and he looks at my freshly painted closet where I've had a washer and dryer for 30 years and tell me he can't install it.He says an only install a washer if the water is directly behind it on the wall. I tellhim what the other man said, he says he knows nothing about him, just that he can't/wont install these longer hoses. I insist he call his supervisor, who tries to understand the job with the use of video conferencing from a cell phone and talk the guy through it, but theInstaller is sneering and sighing. Clearly he doesn't want to do the job. I thentell him to just deliver the unit, and I'll hire someone else to install it. He says" No problem," and goes downstairs to get the unit, But then my husband calls and tells me just to cancel the order, as he has no faith at that point in this man's ability or concern to even deliver the machine without damage. The guy was so insolent and lackadaisical. So, I tell the dis interested installer, we're cancelling the order, just as he's now out in the street dragging the new, machine toward the building. He sighs with relief, shrugs and says the proverbial "No Problem." I call Delivery American and cancel the order, they don't even ask why. They simply ask for my phone number, name and say, "No Problem." I then called Home Depot, and tell them I refused delivery and wish to cancel my $1,580.88 order. And without missing a beat or asking why, they chime in with, "No Problem." This indifference to doing a right and proper job, or keeping my business is maddening. I have learned a lot from all this. A. The Home Depot Internet sales person asked me NO questions, and that led to trouble for me. These are the questions he should have asked Me: a. Do you want gas or electric? b. Whereis you water source? How far away from where you're installing your machine? C. Do you have the proper voltage set up for a 30 amp dryer and the proper plug configuration? I had to have an electrician make a fast early morning visit to day to make the outlet amenable for the New 30 amps. plug. I've also learned ( on my own) that new drainage hoses are now all plastic and that the machine I'm buying has its hose connected to its base. And I'll need a plumber to come up with a configuration. And if that plumber jury-rigs the new machine to make it work, I can kiss my warranty Good-Bye. HomeDepot has lost me as a customer. They hire inexperienced people who are not trained and have no investment in the job. As far as Delivery America goes. They might have good people at their home base, but their delivery folks, at least the ones I've met this week are undisciplined, un-trained and caused me lost time, lots of frustration, and made this process painful instead of fruitful. This evening: I took the advice of friends went to PC Richards on 14th Street. I saw the machine I wanted. The salesmen there asked me all the questions I should have been asked at Home Depot. I bought the machine, which is being delivered tomorrow. Stay tuned: It's now the 23rd of May, PC Richards delivered my machine early AM as requested, it has been installed , and I'm not doing laundry in my apartment again. PC Richards was everything Home Depot was not. Everything with them went exactly as promised, and I might add at $200 less that Home Depot, but this whole process took a week of frustration, which I never want to go through again.
