I’ve used FlatRate before, and the experiences apart from them breaking furniture were ok. That gave me loyalty status, and a mover, ‘their best’ they told me, which was great as I’ve used him in the past. Day of move, I get 3 men who’ve been with FlatRat for only 2 weeks. The lead mover, if that’s what you can call him, spent the entire time telling me he needed to get to his next move, probably off the books.. that the corporate office was pressuring him to finish quickly as he had a subsequent move same day. What??? I didn’t know there was a time limit.. He sat in the truck for periods between packing and smoked on the job, extending the length of the move, completely counter to his comments that corporate was rushing him. The more inexperienced guys, who did work hard, left my belongings on the truck on the street with the doors wide open. During a pandemic with rioting and looting in NYC! It was a rush job. They made me pack and carry my unopened, sealed bottles of wine as they said they were prohibited from moving wine. How could that be?? I had to carry 5 wine bottles in a backpack on my back. Main guy packed my desk, a bureau and a dresser with everything in it instead of removing the items and packing them gently. The desk opened up, the contents spilled out and he grabbed them in handfuls and shoved them in white wrapping. The other two guys were ok, just completely inexperienced with moving. And main guy told me he worked in a medical office prior to getting a job at FlatRate, no experience at all! That’s who FlatRate send their loyalty members? Oh and I got a discount, woo hoo! Because we’re in a pandemic, all essential businesses require sanitization. My new building did as well and FlatRate sent me a contract clearly stating ‘cleaning services were provided’, and included in move. They also charged me for it! Day of move, HQ calls me to say they DO NOT provide cleaning services and offered to pull the move? What???? Worst experience ever, move job was a rush. Complete bait and switch. Their breach of contract almost prohibited me from moving into my new building. I will NEVER NEVER use FlatRate again.
