I would not use them again however.  Again, at the end of the day it comes down to trust.  With that foreman in charge of the move, I never felt confident that they weren't just charging me as much as possible.  Next time, I'd rather choose a different mover.

They arrived promptly, were careful, quick, clean, efficient, personable, organized and professional in every way. The woman in the main office was always very courteous, quickly responsive to all my inquiries, on top of all the details, and also very professional in every way.

The piano I have I am extremely attached to. I was concerned about moving the piano over such a long distance. They showed up on time, they recommended to have 4 men and they showed up with 4 men. They wrapped the piano in protective blankets, they handled the piano properly. They put the piano on a dolly and tipped it upright to get it in the freight elevator in my building. They loaded the truck carefully, they attached the piano to the truck so it would not move. They drove 70 miles to a very difficult location to find and they found it. They arrived within 2 hours of the time frame given and it arrived flawless and in great condition. I'm a worrier and it went so great! They were very nice guys.

Had a difficult time determining from the cryptic markings on the boxes where the materials had been located and what the boxes contained. | |Why the business insists on cash or a certified check when you're given an estimate is beyond me.  Cottage industry business that could use a little administrative updating. | |I would have readily paid more for more precise and professional service. I thought I had made it clear that I was counting on them to take care of everything and ask me if they had any questions.  Not quite so...  But then who likes moving?

As complicated as I thought it would be, having moved a ton, Big John's made it easy.  Everything was confirmed multiple times, the crew who did the move was prompt both days and worked quickly.  They were careful with my stuff and so efficient.  I've moved at least a dozen times and this by far was the best service from start to finish.  I packed my belongings but items like mirrors and TVs were well taken care of.  The crew set everything up for me including items they hadn't taken a part because they'd been in storage for a couple of years (after a previous move).  The estimate for the time was dead as was the estimate for boxes I'd need.  I just can't say enough good about Big John's.  The price was a little bit higher than the other estimate I got but the reviews on here were so good I decided it might be worth it.  BEST decision.  No need to find a mover ever again, Big John's will always be my choice.

My initial phone call was received with the utmost courtesy, all my questions were answered and suggestions for best service offered. At the initial visit, the provider was right on time, friendly and professional and knowledgeable. On moving day they were prompt, used an effective accounting and labeling system.  When the movers arrived at my new home, they put the labelled boxes into the relevant rooms. I cannot speak too highly of the entire experience. Will recommend them completely without reservation especially for anyone moving from New York to Florida.

Great, they did a wonderful job, were pleasant and easy to work with. Took apart and then put together a particularly difficult bed, without a complaint.  Price came in less than the original quote!

I was ending my 35-year stint in New York City and my 20-year residence in an apartment I loved, so moving day found me emotionally fraught, to say the least. Big John's crew: Teddy, Freddy, Paul, Connor, and their chief, Ephran, walked in, with Teddy saying in the brightest humor, "It will all be fine, this will happen, this will happen." Hard to describe how infectious his positive spirit was for me. These guys suffered a bit because the company's estimator had underestimated my cleverness at storing loads of materials in a typical NYC apartment, sorely lacking in closet space. Turned out I owned more than he had guessed, yet the guys packed it all!
   Undaunted by my infrequent use of dustmop or vacuum cleaner, this crew gamely wrapped and boxed over 200 cartons of clothes, books, record albums, and Freddy especially had a fun time with individually wrapping each of my many dozens of tea mugs. They had expected they'd be done by around 2 or 3 in the afternoon, but were at it until about 6:30. I don't know what they said among themselves, especially as they drove the loaded van up to the Bronx, where the next morning they were due to drive it up to Lawrence, Mass. But their attitude to me was always positive and their good humor remained until we parted.
   My sister and I drove up to Mass. that evening, then slept a couple of hours and drove to Lawrence in time to meet the gang at my new residence around 10:30 am. Most of the same guys turned up, although Paul was replaced by Cesar. I knew how tired I was, so can only imagine how glad the guys were when they had piled up the last of my cartons in the middle of my floor, climbed back into their van, and headed back to the Bronx. I sure hope they hoisted a drink or two after two days of yeoman work.
   They had plenty of reasons to gripe: all the dust and dirt in my apt., the estimator's under-estimation that meant at every weigh station on Route 84 they had had to stop and in some cases pay a fine for carrying more than the bill of lading indicated; to say nothing of the sheer physical toil they had spent making sure all my stuff arrived in Point B in the same condition they had packed it at Point A.
   These guys are hard-working and well attuned to the latent hysteria anyone feels when moving. They handled all with charm and true professionalism that is hard to find these days. I want to thank them all and I whole-heartedly recommend Big John's to anybody moving into or out of the New York area.

This company is the BEST!!! Not only were they prompt, professional, and courteous, they actually made a difficult move look effortless. They boxed up several big items that I didn't have pre-packed and moved everything into my new space so quickly and perfectly that I was in awe of their work. The building I was moving into had many physical obstacles (front entrance steps, a tricky elevator, etc.), and that did not detract them in the least. They worked with such great skill and teamwork, it was almost like watching a pro sports team in action. Everything arrived in perfect condition. They even recommended the best spot for my sofa! It was amazing and, without a doubt, the best moving experience imaginable. My 'dream team' deserves special recognition: Ernesto, Melindo, Marcus and Nathan. What pros!
I want to thank Big John's Moving staff from the bottom of my heart for making what is normally a very stressful situation into one that I can only recall with happiness, and the highest praise and appreciation possible.

They showed up right on time came in asked for a tour and promptly got to work. Prior to the move they estimated it would take 11 hours plus 2 hours travel time and brought 2 trucks. They were very professional and very focused while loading the trucks their team had a system down, everyone had a specific job and they worked well together.
I provided water and snacks before lunch which seemed to disappear but I never saw anyone sitting down for a break.
I also brought them a 3ft hero for lunch, they told me not to get it until they were finished and ready to move to next location.
They finished by 12noon, and I think they must have eaten in the truck on the way to our new house b/c they left quickly.
I arrived at my house before them and proceeded to lock myself out of my house! Fortunately I had opened some windows
before and some of the moving men were able to lift up one guy to climb in my window. I had already called a locksmith and was able to cancel, saving me who knows how much. These guys went above and beyond.
They began unloading and were sure to ask me exactly where I wanted everything to be placed, 2 or 3 times I changed my mind with a piece of furniture and they were happy to accommodate. I never once felt that they didn't want to do anything. Every person in that crew was professional and courteous.
In the end I asked if they were done and they said we are not done until you tell us we are done, please walk through and make sure everything is exactly where you want it.
It wound up that they finished 2 hours early and I will be refunded the money via company check within 2 weeks ( I paid by certified check). These guys did such an amazing and efficient job I gave them a bigger tip.

It was a wonderful experience. The guys showed up right on time (6 am!), explained the plan, and got to work. They were very pleasant and handled all of our stuff with care. We did the whole move in one day (from NYC to Boston), which means the guys drove 8+ hours in addition to moving our stuff in and out. I give them a lot of credit. Other moving companies were more expensive and insisted on a 2-day move, which wasn't ideal for our schedule.

Punctual.  Good attitude.  Stayed true to the bid.  Flexible.  Move went very smoothly.  No hesitation in recommending them.

I was disappointed to learn upon seeking a quote for a cross-country move that the vendor only delivers occasionally to LA. Specifically, they told me that they have a truck going in July and a truck going in September. If you want deliver in August, too bad.
If you're going to represent yourself as a nationwide move, you should provide services on par with truly national moving companies. If you can't, don't.

I am doing some of the packing myself and don't have much left for them to pack. I live in an apartment so I do not have much furniture to move as well. I felt there estimate was a little too high.

For us, the move
seemed complicated, for them, it seemed easy.  I was also very nervous
about 2 sofas that had been extremely difficult to move into our 1 BR
apartment, but they moved them out and into the new apartment with no
problem at all.  It made me realize that the movers for the furniture
company that had delivered the sofas had NO IDEA WHAT THEY WERE DOING. 
Big John's really know how to move. 

I moved 3 years ago but only joined AL recently which is why its taken so long for me to review. In the past 3 years I've recommended Big John's to 5 people who all were very happy with the service.The estimate was $700 to move the contents of my one bedroom apartment which was on the top floor of a 6 story walk up. I had heavy furniture & lots of clothes, books, CDs & kitchen items such as pots & pans, china & silverware. The movers packed it ALLThey were pleasant & professional & seemed sensitive to the fact that I was leaving a place I had lived in for 20 years. The move went smoothly, they helped me unpack the larger items & they were somehow done within 4 hours.
Big John's is THE company to call for any move. My office used them for our move back in 1996. Anyone we've recommended them to has thanked us for the great recommendation.
