+ -1 moreDifficulty with company occurred around a coupon pre-purchased on Angie's List. There was miscommunication, and in my opinion the coupon did not state the conditions of use clearly enough. Treatments were done by a worker who was not the arborist. He was not professional about the payment, but all went OK in the end. However, due to difficulty with pre-paid coupon for service, I will not be likely to use them in the future.
Description of Work: Work was done to treat for mites and other infestations satisfactorily. It was difficult to come to this conclusion using the coupon. Work was done by a worker who was not the arborist.

Very professional; I wish my doctor's office were as careful with me as these guys are with my trees! They have researched some stubborn problems and handled them. They visit the property and check up on the work they did, and then send other experts to validate their treatment in tough cases. Our family is very happy with their work.

+ -1 moreMy conclusion is: Sav-A-Tree lower westchester is the biggest ripoff you will ever encounter. They don't know what they're doing, and charge thousands of $$$$. Stay away and get someone that knows about trees and shrubs (I recommend Bartlett).
Description of Work: I've been using Sav A Tree for the past 7 years. They sounded like they really knew their stuff, and were extremely professional. Until my shrubs and trees started having problems. When a holly tree died, I was told that there "seems to be something attacking hollys because lots of them are having trouble". When I had the dead tree removed, my gardener pointed out that the soil was dead dry and that I had a sprinkler head broken. When I questioned the sav a tree people they replied that it was not their job to check for water. When I started having problems with a redbud tree - I was told it, and all my other large shrubs & trees, had "girdled root". So not knowing what to do - I shelled out $2,000.00 for a "girdled root treatment". When I pointed out the tree was still doing terribly at the end of the season - the arborist told me it was due to girdled root. After a few expletives, I explained it shouldn't be - since I'd spent so much money to fix it at the start of the season. He promptly apologized, said he'd meant to say "girdled stem" which is not able to be fixed. When I googled "girdled stem" I found it is exactly the same thing as girdled root. When I consulted Bartlett, they needed only to glance around to conclude that every tree and shrub is essentially buried and doesn't have enough root exposed. They also explained that this deprives the plants of nitrogen - which is essential. The sav a tree "girdled root" treatment was supposed to remedy that. They also asked me if sav a tree fertilized my trees with kelp. When I responded affirmatively - he pointed out that kelp doesn't have any nitrogen in it. I also asked him about a rhododendron that just died - as the sav a tree folks have been telling me for years that the soil was not acidic enough, and they were addressing it. The Bartlett people then proceeded to show me that the shrub was planted way too deeply. When I expressed concern to Bartlett about my dogwoods -they explained it was a particular kind of pest. I explained that the sav a tree people have been spraying for that ever since they started. Bartlett then explained that the only way a spray is effective against that is to spray the trees exactly one day after they start blooming. Since that's not realistic, as long as the tree is otherwise healthy, don't spray as it's ineffective. When I bemoaned the fact that so many plants have powdery mildew (for which I was previously told there is no fix), Bartlett explained that they spray for that!!!!!

+ -1 moreThey have been unbelievably good. We live on top of a plateau on a high elevation. If we don’t fertilize our lawn would look like a dessert. When I first hired them I sat down to speak with their arborist and he carefully went over his suggestions. His suggestions were very helpful and the outcome has been very good. We live on slightly over an acre. If you have a yearly contract they will provide a 7% discount.

+ -1 moreThis company is on the north shore and were on the south shore. I can guarantee this company was waiting till they had more customers in this area to service before coming out this way. However, I paid for a service to be done. Initially I called and made an appt. for them to come out to a**** the job and give me a quote on some extra work to be done along with the Big Deal purchase. They came out and said they would be in touch and give me a estimate. That was June 29th (over 2 weeks) and I have yet to receive any calls or info via email on the quote or the service I purchased in advance.
Description of Work: Bought a Big Deal for $75 for 100 Gallon's of Tree and Shrub Fertilizing Service.

+ -1 moreI was very pleased and very happy with them. They were a little more expensive than I probably needed to pay, but their service was excellent. I made sure the guy who came out was very knowledgeable about different species of trees and what we could do and should not do. They were very prompt and very clean. He took out everything including stumps, branches, etc. There was no evidence on my lawn that there had been a tree there.
Description of Work: I used SavATree of Mamaroneck. They removed a couple of dead trees and pruned some other trees 2 years ago.

+ -1 moreThey came and did the work and cleaned up after themselves. They were fine. I didn't do any price comparisons so I don't know how their prices were. It turned out well. Ultimately somebody bought the house next door and cut down the tree so I could have saved my money but that wasn't their fault. I would consider using them in the future.

The day after the terrible Nor'Easter in Westchester County in March 2010, we contacted Robert to help us with tree damage on our property. He navigated blocked roads to reach us and assess our damage. He prioritized the removal of our trees and the Savatree team did an outstanding job of removing our trees. After seeing the great job Robert arranged for us, several of neighbors used him as well. Robert was always reachable on his cell and by email. Despite long hours in difficult conditions, he was always in a positive and professional mode. When we needed his help, he was there for us, and we are even more loyal customers as a result. Savatree also does a great job at very good prices of annual tree pruning and fertilization.
Description of Work: We use Savatree for our annual fertilization of our trees and shrubs. We also use them for tree pruning. Most recently, we used them to take down trees that had been damaged in the March 2010 Nor'Easter.

I thought they were pretty good. All the tree services I used were pretty good. I cannot remember what it was that they did when they were here the last time.

+ -1 moreAfter clearing up a communication lapse between the arborist who writes the contract and the actual workers who cut the trees, everything moved well. If I had to do it all over again, I would wait until Jan. - Feb. to contract the work and not Nov.; in the Winter the trees are barren from leaves and there is a discount from the company.

+ -1 moreIt took a long time to actually schedule the appointments. Also, in the process of taking down our tree, a retaining wall collapsed and they handled it very well. They handled it with their insurance and had a masonry company come out to fix it. They fixed the problem that they created. It seemed pricey, but it was worth it in the end.

+ -1 moreTheir estimate was about twice as much as the next company- also a reputable one and even older and larger. Even stuff like carting away trimmed debris was twice as much. Fertilization cost three times as much. They may have somewhat better quality, though I can't imagine it's worth that much more. When I brought this up to the arborist he dropped the price by about 25-30% right away with a number of rationalizations. This always makes me suspect and tells me its price gouging involved. Despite this it would have cost me about $1000 bucks more to go with them and I chose not to. I cannot comment on their quality of work as they did not do any. The arborist seemed as knowledgeable as any others I've used in the past.

+ -1 moreDue to heavy storms in the area and tree damage, it took the company weeks to actually start the work after doing the assessment (which was thorough and comprehensive). I had to call several times to get them to start the work and then to come back and complete it. It was more than a month of back and forth phone calls. I had no idea when they were coming, as they did not notify me in advance. When they finally showed up, the work was thorough, and the crew was polite and professional. They did a nice clean job. Too bad about the poor customer service. I'm still waiting for my final bill.
Description of Work: The company was hired to assess the trees on the property, to trim branches away from the roof of the home and garage, and remove dead trees based upon the assessment made. The removal of a tree stump was also requested and included in the estimate, although I decided to do it myself.
