Two guys showed up and went to work. A representative from the office turned up to review their work and talk me through what they found. While working they discovered a way to complete the job that took less time and fewer materials than originally estimated, which was obviously a huge bonus (basically half price). While they were testing the boiler they pointed out a few issues with the valves that would be covered by our service contract with our heating company (i.e. work they would've gained nothing by pointing out). Very helpful, and great stuff to know.
They also pointed out an issue with a waste water pipe that was cracked and could become a problem in the future, and provided an estimate on the spot. No pressure, just made sure we were aware of the problem.
I was incredibly impressed with the professionalism and friendliness of the guys who were turned up, and I'd recommend them 100x over.

"We are disappointed that we received a D rating overall and an F rating on Price with no other ratings for Quality, Responsiveness, Punctuality or Professionalism. All things that we pride ourselves on delivering. We did call our client and requested additional feedback but he has yet to return our call. What's most surprising is that the client initially provided us with glowing feedback and even provided a generous gratuity to our technician - which is not expected or necessary - but important to mention! We believe that the client received incorrect information or maybe an unjustified opinion from a third party after we diagnosed and resolved his issue. Anyone can say that they could do something for less but is the work performed in a safe manner? Does the technician demonstrate respect for the client's time and respect for their home? Does the company provide technician's who are licensed, experienced, highly trained and insured? Finally, does the company offer guarantees and warranties? We do all of the above at a competitive and fair price. Finally, when the client initially called us it was because another plumber he hired came to his home and promised to return to provide a repair. That other plumber never returned the client's phone call. The client waited two weeks and then finally reached out to our company. We scheduled an appointment and arrived at his home the next day to complete the repair. We are disappointed again because this was a first time client who we would have loved to retain. "We’re very disappointed to hear that [Removed Member Name] was not satisfied with the services we provided on June 1, 2015. I did call [Removed Member Name] as soon as I read the review yesterday to try and understand why she selected each rating. I have yet to connect with her. That being said, our aspiration for over 105 years has always been to exceed client expectations. This is an unusual review that does not align with our typical client experience or the verbal and written feedback we receive on the Senior Technician that was dispatched to the call that day. We hope to learn as much as we can when we speak with [Removed Member Name]. On June 1, 2015 we dispatched a Senior Technician to [Removed Member Name]’s home to install an owner supplied cartridge for a Delta faucet. As per our process, the technician provided the client with a straightforward price to install the cartridge. [Removed Member Name] signed our invoice stating that she authorized the price and at that point we proceeded with the repair. When our technician attempted to replace the owner supplied cartridge it did not fit. The client’s cartridge was for a newer style Delta faucet which was not the style she had in her home. Our technician offered the client two options, she could purchase the correct cartridge on her own and then call us back to complete the installation. Or, seeing that we carried Delta faucet parts on our trucks we could furnish and install the part during this same visit. The client chose to have Charles Krull & Son furnish and install the part and again, as per our process, the technician communicated the straightforward price to furnish and install a cartridge, the client re-signed and authorized the updated price and we completed the installation. While at the home [Removed Member Name] also authorized our technician to replace hot and cold angle shut-off valves under the kitchen sink which were not working. [Removed Member Name] was aware of the price prior to the repair and authorized the price. At the end of the service visit we provided [Removed Member Name] with a 10% Angie’s list discount, she signed our invoice and confirmed in writing that the work was completed to her satisfaction. There were multiple opportunities for [Removed Member Name] to provide feedback during the service and repair call. [Removed Member Name] did not have to proceed with any of the repairs if he was uncomfortable with the price. We always put the client in the driver’s seat. We diagnose a situation, we offer options to repair and we communicate a price prior to completing any work. A client can either say “yes” or “no.” If [Removed Member Name] had contacted the office to communicate that she had an issue or was concerned with our process we would have absolutely listened to her concerns and addressed them. We hope to have the opportunity to do that."
Of course they told me about other services they perform, like a yearly contract for the boiler which is always good to know, what also impressed me is this fact, they put on plastic coverings for their the shoes so they did not bring in any dirt in the house.
Great job and would use them again and recommend them highly.
I called my usual heating company who responded, diagnosed the problem, and priced it out at 2,400 to fix.
The repair would entail breaking open two seperate walls to gain access to the pipes.
For the first time ever, I decided to call around for additional estimates being that the repair cost was so extreme.
I searched Angies List and came across Charles Krull & Son whom I decided to call. The experience is as follows:
I knew IMMEDIATLEY that this was going to be a great company to deal with. Their customer service manager Elizabeth answered the phone and was incredibly professional and knowledgable. She assured me someone would be at my home within 2 hours, and she would call 20 minutes in advance to let me know they are on their way with a full description of the worker and his identitiy, etc.
Chris Krull arrived, immediatley put scrubs over his boots prior to entering my home and handled himself with 100% confidence and professionalism. Chris took his time conducting all sorts of tests and exams on my boiler, tracing pipes, and explaining to me exactly what he was doing and why. Although Chris understood why the inital plumber diagnosed the problem as such, Chris had a differant theory as to why my system was not working. He explained to me what he believes the problem is and how he would fix it. He explined to me in simple terms how my heating system works so I would be able to understand how he came to the conclusion of what he believes is wrong.
Chris then explained to me that his repair would involve making only 1 small hole in a wall and that the cost would be 300.00 dollars.
HE WAS 100% CORRECT IN HIS THEORY OF WHAT WAS WRONG. My system is now working better than ever. Elizabeth even called me back to ask how the service was.
THIS COMPANY IS VERY PROFESSIONAL, TRUSTWORTHY, AND ON POINT!!!!
Charles Krull & Son saved me over 2 thousand dollars and saved me from having to break walls open and then have the walls repaired for what would have been for no reason!
Chris took his time at my house, explained everything to me, was polite as can be, was very excited to share his knowledge with me, and did not take advantage of an opportunity to do a "big job" and make lots of money when I would never have known the differance. He is a brillant heating and plumbing professional who takes pride in his work and knows exactly what he is doing. Something very hard to find these days.
Because of this experience, starting with Elizabeth and ending with Chris, CHARLES KRULL AND SON PLUMBING AND HEATING WILL NOW BE THE ONLY COMPANY I WILL DEAL WITH FOR MY PLUMBING AND HEATING PROBLEMS FROM THIS DAY FORWARD.
