We contacted Mako based on Angie's List reviews and heard back from them fairly quickly before setting up an appointment. We received a text when the plumber was on the way. He arrived on time and like others said, took care upon first entering our house to cover his shoes and be sure not to track any dirt in. We described/discussed the problem but soon felt rather uncomfortable. Our plumber "Ricky Reliable" while certainly a knowledgeable man, presented as more of a salesman than anything. We were given several prices and options of the work which could be done. While this is great, there was a huge range in price and we felt very pressured to decide on one of the higher priced options. It was awkward to hear terms like "cool" and "pretty" to describe various plumbing parts and ideas as well. We're not sure if this was meant to appeal to us? We went ahead with the work, keeping in mind if we opted to get another estimate we'd still have to pay the service charge. From what we can tell the actual job was done well. This winter will be the true test. We did ask for additional estimates for work to be done in the house. This came via mail a week or two later to the total of $15K! It did, however say if we agreed on at least two of the proposals we could still get a low price otherwise the cost would be substantially higher. Given Mako's fees, but more so the fact that we felt very uncomfortable as customers we will not be using them again.

"This is not the type of review we are accustom to here at Mako Plumbing. As the 300+ reviews we currently have with a good portion of them being those attributing to Rich, this is the only one that didn't describe him as a great plumber and personable guy. After completing thousands of jobs for thousands of customers, we realize that some companies and some customers are not a great fit. We accept that AND also glad to hear that you are happy with the repair we made for you. As far as us using the words "pretty cool" to describe the most cutting edge equipment that can permanently cut your fuel bill in half. We use those words not to be slick salesman but because that type of equipment is new and exciting and we are enthusiastic about it. It's unfortunate that the words "pretty cool" offended you and we apologize for that. Now, we hate to pass on a $15,000 job, but we would prefer to pass on a job where we do not naturally connect with the customer. We believe it's better to not do the work then to do the work for someone we make uncomfortable. As all our Angie's List customers know, in the rare instance, if an issue arises while our techs are on a job, they have every opportunity to give our office a call and speak to the office manager to have it resolved. Hope you find the plumbing company that you are the right fit with. Good luck."

Loved Robert and Ted! They were quick and efficient. Called up today and wasn't sure when they could come out. Receptionist called back with an availability today. They Came out and checked the problem. They were clean. They were honest and did not try to pull a fast one. Reasonably priced and would recommend them again.

I had a terrific and stress-free experience with Ricky, my plumber. Ricky is very professional and highly knowledgeable; he called me before his appointment time to tell me he will be late due to traffic. He was friendly, patient, and has the highest integrity for his work. He spent the entire day fixing all my problems as well as educating me on plumbing and heating issues throughout my house. My money was very well spent for excellent work, lessons on plumbing and heating issues, and peace of mind that all my issues were fixed correctly and completely.
I would recommend Mako plumbing & heating, especially Ricky to anyone who seeking high quality service. Ricky had the patience and knowledge to answer every question I had throughout the whole process; also, he was awesome educating me on what was being done and why. Overall, Ricky is super guy and well worth the money for premium customer service.

Checked for the leak said it was the tub corking. They do not do the corking.
The plumber was very nice, professional and respectful. In addition to being patient with me. It is NOT their fault about my tub corking, The house is old and we are doing work on it. I am grateful it was only the corking destroying my basement ceiling.

I don't think I ever heard that before, sorry you feel that way and had to post such a review when we haven't even done one job for you. As I tried to discuss on the phone, we certainly could install that electric hot water for you and would be happy to come and inspect it for you. The fee is $125 which we will waive if you accept our estimate. As I also tried to explain we do not price over the phone. This always leads to misunderstandings on price and we also feel anyone who would price a job unseen cannot be accurate. We've been in business for over 15 years and as you see throughout our 200+ reviews, our professionalism, honesty and quality is what makes our customers happy and calling us first when an issue arises. Hopefully you find who you're looking for to resolve your plumbing issues. If not, we are still available if you need our help. It is completely your decision if you choose not to use us because you insist on a "free estimate", but calling me rude seeds a little silly. Good luck."

They couldn't begin work as planned because my super didn't have the water shut down since he thought they would be OK without a shutdown. Through no fault of the plumbers once they got inside the wall they found out that the valves didn't hold and they required a shutdown. This meant they had to make an extra trip back on a different day. In addition, again through no fault of theirs, they needed an extra piece to attach to the shower body and had to make a special trip back and forth to the plumbing supply. They dealt with these set backs with good humor and efficiency. I felt the job was in good hands with Jay and Adonis. They reassured me that everything was proceeding smoothly. I am very happy with the way things turned out. The office was also very professional.

Upon first contacting mako I was impressed with their promptness and accommodating nature . While they were very busy they worked me right into the schedule knowing that I was loosing money the more time I waited to fix the leak in my shower. Jay arrived at the scheduled time and was just as friendly and professional as his coworkers had been on the telephone. I realized right away, as did he ,that they had done work in my home in the past . That fact made me feel even better because I remember my brother (whom had called them prior) had nothing but good things to say about Mako and specifically Jay.
Jay clearly explained my options and the prices/costs that we could incur. The cheaper option worked out and Jay never pushed me in one direction or another . At one point he had to get another pat and was clear about the additional cost of said part...no surprises no hustle , just the facts. Mako seems to put forth all the effort available to maintain a reputation of quality and professional service at reasonable prices. I would not hesitate to call them again . In fact I will likely never call another plumber again and i will most likely request Jay as the tech. Sent out to us. Bottom line Mako is Outstanding as are their employees.

Hurricane Sandy was not an easy experience for me. Feet of water in the basement shorted out everything not hung up high on the walls, and that included my home heating boiler and hot water heater. Couple that with the subsequent snowstorm a week after the hurricane, and misery was mine. That was further compounded by the swarm of contractors who came through the affected beachfront areas selling 10 year-old tech as new and charging exorbitant rates for the work. A little bit of time on AngiesList though, and I was able to find these winners.
I called Mako, and after listening to their long outgoing message stating that they were incredibly backed up due to post-Sandy emergency work, I left my plea for help to their queue of voicemails. Richard, the owner, called me personally the next day. I explained my situation, and he said he wanted to help, and someone could be out to give me an estimate, but that he couldn't guarantee that they'd be able to get me an installation date until they knew what they were facing. I was fine with it, and a few days later Rob and Richie were over to survey the situation. I got an honest quote, and a recommendation of a new wall-hung Lochinvar boiler with an indirectly-fired hot water tank to attach to it (so that I still had hot water in the event of a power outage, which happens often in my area). I immediately decided that I'd found my first home-rebuild partner.
It took a few weeks for all the moving parts to line up before Mako could get in, including a ServPro basement gutting and some electrical patching, but they were well worth it. Rob and Richie patiently disassembled everything and took care of the carting away of my 20+ year-old boiler, and prepared the new setup (including a temporary overhead run of a condenser pump as final construction of my basement was many months away). They also agreed to an elevation of the hot water tubing and hot water tank so that any future flooding would cause minimal headaches, and got to work. As the installation came to a close, I popped the question of adding an Internet-connected thermostat and running new cabling for it to my nascent home-automation system, and they were happy to oblige. The billing was also fast, which helped with my insurance claim, and greatly appreciated.
In the year and a half since the initial installation, Richie has come by to tune the system as repairs continued and damaged radiators were brought back online, ensuring that the house remained balanced and the Lochinvar system continued to hum (quietly). Mako are not simply service providers - they have established an ongoing partnership with me in the operation of my home, and truly care to ensure my safety and comfort. They have not only my business, but my trust.

I was very pleased with the service, and I fully confident that if anything went wrong that Mako and Jason would back up their work in a heart beat. Mako got the job because the plumber I originally wanted to hire pulled no-shows and didn't return phone calls. I hope all you contractors out there are listening, because people are fed up with this type of treatment.
In conclusion I got exactly what I paid for - top notch service, professionalism, punctuality and a company I can trust.

Oh, Mako was great. My mom had a stroke and moved in with me. I had no heat and the office was so concerned with my situation. I spoke to the office at 9 a.m. and Rob came by 12 p.m. and fixed the problem. I was extremely satisfied with the prompt service and the expertise and professionalism. I did think the price was too high. The bill did not have the price listed for the two parts. I paid $3,000.-- for the unit. So $600.00 seems high to install the two parts, but I was desperate and the company came through for me in a matter of hours.

Water was leaking at the rate of about a gallon per hour from one of our shower heads. Although the leak was in the shower so there was no chance of water damage, we wanted the problem fixed as soon as possible to ensure that we were not heating hot water that was just going down the drain. The receptionist at Maco Plumbing who took the call was very professional, and clearly stated expectations around pricing and timing.
The plumber, Jay, arrived the same day within the time window that was communicated when we set up the call. He was very professional. Once he determined the likely source of the problem, he provided 2 solutions clearly describing the pros and cons of each. We settled on one, and he completed the repair effectively and efficiently.
I did not rate the price component of the work because I did not attempt to get multiple quotes. The job took about an hour not counting travel time. The part that was replaced costs at retail $90-$100. I assume that since I requested same-day service it was treated as an emergency repair, and so may have incurred a higher than normal rate.

Adonis showed up with a no problem attitude. Which is exactly what I paid for. He was polite, skilled and confident. I had been a little nervous because my washing machine also drains into under my kitchen sink and there was a leak. He seemed very competent in his trade and this put my mind at ease. He said he'd take care of everything, complimented me on my choice of faucet and finished his job in about an hour. It's dry as a bone down there and I'm loving my new faucet.

Adonis showed up on time and was very professional, personable and knowledgeable. As a first time home buyer and customer of Mako, Adonis took his time to make sure my wife and I understood the nuts and bolts of the boiler, water heater and plumbing of our new home. He snaked and cleaned our main sewer line and trap, which apparently hadn't been done by the previous owner of the house for many years. A distaster was waiting to happen, but Adonis helped us avoid that looming disaster.
