This was for a 26 year old car that it's getting hard to find parts for. I had already looked under the car and found the muffler and all pipes were in need of replacement. I stopped in and Jim's checked it out coming up with the same assessment. Jim's had the muffler in stock, but not all the pipes. He called around and located all the parts, and tried to order, but one pipe that was in stock according to the distributor's computer actually wasn't. Jim's called me to discuss options of using a more expensive pipe from another distributor that may or may not be in stock and would have to be shipped, or of welding in a new flex pipe to my front header pipe (the only part of this pipe that was bad; this was the pipe that the distributor didn't have). Jim's recommended I do that, and I agreed. Jim's got the work done in afternoon. Welding a new flex pipe section into my original equipment stainless steel front pipe worked well, I looked and the welds look good. The installation appears to be well done, although the quality of the aftermarket pipes isn't quite up to the original. But with the age of the car we had to use what's available. I had previously replaced the exhaust at the dealer to get original equipment parts, but those are no longer available. Original equipment used aluminized pipes to resist rust, and they also fit somewhat better (tighter up under the car body, with extra heat shields attached to the pipe). The new pipes appear to be plain steel and painted steel that will probably not last as long (but the car may not last that much longer anyway). Jim's was very courteous and did honest work. Parts prices appeared to be list price, with an additional labor charge; this is pretty much standard anywhere you'd get this work done. I probably could have got the parts cheaper if I wanted to install myself, but I didn't want to do that (and I really couldn't have, with the welding required). The price was reasonable, but not cheap, for the job including installation. I did also get a quote from the dealer, for about $250 more than Jim's price. The dealer also would have used aftermarket parts since the original equipment parts are discontinued.
Description of Work: Replaced most parts of exhaust system, including muffler and 3 sections of pipe, keeping only the original catalytic converter and the first part of the front pipe, from the header down to a flex coupler,

Was courteous and efficient. Charged more than the estimate, apparently because of extra hardware. Ironically, the extra hardware did not include gaskets. They were installed later by my mechanic when I noticed that the exhaust system was louder than before. My mechanic could see where exhaust was leaking out from the two connection points of the Y pipe to the mufflers.
Description of Work: Installed Y-pipe to connect from manifold to two mufflers

Jim is a great guy and does great work. He does it all. He answers the phones, orders the parts, gives estimates, works the register and fixes your car. He is a one man show and is amazing at what he does. It is truly miraculous to watch him go. He obviously has been doing this a while. He performed high quality work and saved me money in the process. One thing, he is not great at responding to emails via Angies List so just give him a call.

I went to Jim's after visiting another nearby muffler shop. Jim told me he could repair the exhaust for a lot less money than the other local shop.

I've been using Jim's Mufflers Inc. for many years, and have always gotten quality work at a reasonable price. This last work was an example of their honesty and willingness to do what's best for the customer. I had my 1996 Toyota camry at the dealer for other work, and asked about a noise coming from the exhaust. I don't recall their exact explanation of the problem (I'm not a mechanic), but it involved the exhaust manifold, and was extremely expensive to fix. I took it to Jim's, since I used them before, and he checked it out, confirmed what the dealer had told me, but offered an alternative solution. The alternative would be to install a flex pipe, and again, I can't remember the exact details, but it would cost hundreds less. The downside was that he couldn't guarantee it would work, but said that he had done it before with good results. If I decided not to choose this alternative, he could do the full fix that the dealer would do, but for much less (but still very expensive). I chose the cheaper fix, and have put 60,000+ miles on that car since then, with no exhaust problems. I have used them over the years for more standard exhaust work, and have always been pleased.

I have a 1998 Subaru. My muffler pipe broke away by the catylitic converter and was making a very loud noise. Jim was going to weld it, but noticed 2 other areas on the pipe that were disintegrating. He advised me to replace the whole pipe cause it would only be a short matter of time before the pipe failed completely. He looked up the price of a replacement pipe and since it alone was almost $400 he said he was going to make me one instead! It ended up oonly costing $287 (including tax). Jim was so kind. He's a very thoughtful human being and I especially like his work ethic.
