I can only say positive things about Shea and would recommend them without hesitation. Shea has moved us 4 times in the last 9 years and has been amazing every time. Brian, Julie, and their team are the best! Their fixed quote has always been one of the most competitive, and best of all there are ZERO hidden fees or extra charges. They get the job done efficiently and are friendly along the way, even with the inevitable moving snags. They are a local family run business (just one truck at the moment), so they may not get all the press of some larger companies...but please don't let that stop you from hiring them. You will not regret it! Thanks Shea!!

Overall, this was a positive experience. The gentleman who did the estimate was able to work around my crazy schedule and gave me a quote right away. The day of the move went smoothly - the guys were totally professional. There were a couple of dings to the furniture (I have low clearance in my stairwell), but I'm very happy with the service provided. I hope to never have to move again, but if I do I will go with Shea!

Husband and wife team. He came over personally to assess my needs and give me a quote. She was very responsive on the phone (I tend to ask a lot of questions). I love the flat fee and didn't have to worry about hidden costs. The movers were prompt and courteous. Some cheap pieces of furniture I didn't really expect to survive the move ended up being fine with their methods. PS I asked beforehand why although they are well reviewed on Angie's List they don't have as many reviews as some others and they told me they don't pressure people to do reviews, which is true (here I am 1-1/2 years later writing this review because I'm looking on Angie's List for something else and just remembered how great they were and that I meant to write a review).

Shea Moving is everything I was looking for in a mover. Julie Shea is a down-to-earth real person who had my concerns uppermost in her mind throughout the two weeks from estimate to move-in. I must have called her a dozen times, and each time she reassured me that what I was concerned about was no problem. Shea's men are friendly, professional, and hard-working (i.e., not "grunts"). Again, real people. I needed to have them out of the new building by 5:00 PM or I would lose my refundable move-in deposit, and they moved heaven and earth to meet that deadline with time to spare. They performed a miracle by managing to get an impossibly large couch in the elevator. They reassembled everything that they had to disassemble -- except for the bookcase shelving, which Julie herself took care of a few days later. (That might have made the difference between being done by 5:00 or not.) There aren't enough stars to give Shea Moving. (My cost-of-service includes an 18% gratuity, which I was very happy to pay.)

Best moving experience I've ever had. The guys were speedy, efficient, polite, and careful withour stuff. Flat rate is for real - no hidden charges or last-minute extras. Communication was excellent. Price was remarkably low, especially given the quality of the service.

I've had a good experience with them. I spent $1200. We had them move the contents of a studio apartment. They were good to work with, I thought the pricing was reasonable, they were responsive to phone calls and their scheduling was good. I like dealing with a small family-owned business than a big chain. They were able to handle both a local move and long distance move. They showed up on time and there were no hidden charges.

We've used Shea for three moves, and they always do a great job.  During the move, a mirror cracked, and the guys at Shea graciously offered to take it for a repair for free.  They also helped us dis/reassemble our furniture, and assisted us in getting the last bits of stuff quickly packed up because we weren't 100% ready for them. I'm always amazed that they can quickly and safely get our pieces of furniture down narrow stairs single-handedly, even when they are bulky and made of heavy wood. On the way to our new apartment, they were held up by a road accident, and they even jumped out to help direct traffic so that people could back out of now-closed off street safely!
The only negative thing that happened was that one of the movers (who had been pretty much confined to working in the truck), came up when we wrapping up and complained loudly that they were waiting for us to leave. To be fair, I think the other movers were put out by this as well, and apologized to me for his behavior.  However, I think this was an anomaly and not indicative of the usual level of professionalism I get with Shea.

There are too many details to mention, but I will give the major bullet points.
My conclusion, up front, is this is one of the best companies I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. They are honest, have integrity, and just pleasant to work with. You will be treated well by their great staff. The guys who come know what they are doing and do it professionally. I cant say enough good things about my experience with this company in the 3 moves I had.
I will make the comment (mostly) on the last move I made. The owner of the company came to our home and did a capped estimate. if the move went over the estimate we would not pay over the estimate. It ended up that the estimate was a little low and the move took longer than expected. I only paid the cap not one penny more.
1. They took GREAT care when I had some VERY delicate furniture left from my grandparents.
2. They wrapped up a large boat in glass with precision and delicate hands. They were so respectful of me saying "this is fragile and please take great care.
3. They showed up EARLY.
4. They didn't care that I wanted a couch moved 3 times. They smiled and asked me if I was happy.
5. They were careful when moved from one home into the other. They watched and made sure they didn't scrape walls or floors.
Look I can go into al the details  but it would be impossible. I put the above up to show that its ALL in the details Any company can move a box. But after 5 hours at one house, and on the third hour as the SECOND house you might expect they guys to be a bit grumpy. They were not. They were as careful with the last box as they were with the first.
I can not say more good things about this company and the experience I had THREE times with them. And in all 3 moves not ONE thing was broken. I think I packed pretty well, but it says a lot to the care they took.

Shea moving was terrific. Anna, the office manager, went out of her way to be kind and helpful.  When she said she'd get back to me, she did with a very appropriate level of detail and help.  Brian, one of the owners, was professional, on time, personable and very comfortable to work with.  I had confidence in him right away.  They do everything by the book, in terms of binding estimates , paperwork, etc. and yet are not inflexible in any way. Terrific, friendly crew who showed up on time (Brian and 2 employees). Handled the packing and loading efficiently and well. Showed me everything they were doing, shared any concerns they had regarding condition of any of the furniture they were moving, kept me informed throughout.  When I had a delay, complicating their work  (my fault - not their's) they were understanding and accommodating. Handled the valuable pieces with great care, friendly, cheerful and professional the whole time. I recommend them wholeheartedly.

We got estimates from 3 moving companies.  All of them were in the same ballpark with Shea being slightly higher than the other 2. What tipped the advantage to Shea was the fact that they sent someone to our home to inventory what had to be moved and provide an estimate whereas the other 2 movers just had me e-mail a list.  I'm sure that the list was probably enough to provide a fair estimate but still, you can't beat someone showing up in person.
On moving day, we had to add a couple of items not in the original inventory, and also needed a couple of heavy items in the new home moved down to the basement.  Shea's people adapted to these changes with no problem at all.  As is the case with New York apartments and attached houses, there were some difficult stairs and some tight turns, but the movers overcame these obstacles with little difficulty.
Their estimated time of completion turned out to be spot on and the final bill was $20 over the estimate.  They took very good care of our furniture, televisions, and glass cases.  We suffered no damage at all.
Fortunately, moving is not something we have to do very often so it should be a long time before I need a moving company again. But if Shea is still around when I do need to relocate, I won't look any further.

I cannot say enough good things about this mover. Shea moving is a family business that really knows the moving business. They gave me a very competitive estimate in a timely fashion. They sent two excellent and caring individuals (robert and Danny), to move my mother's belongings and they completed the work in less time than they had originally estimated. As a result they charged me less than their estimate had indicated.
The owners followed up before during and after the move to ensure that I was satisfied with their service. Their movers were neat, efficient, caring and careful. Nothing was broken and they helped my elderly mother with certain requests that were not part of their responsibility - gladly and willingly.
I highly recommend Shea Moving for any of your moving needs.

It went beautifully!  I had a minimum contract for a 4 hour job less one hour round trip travel & they moved everything in less than an hour.
The two men were extremely considerate & saw that everything was done exactly to my liking  They moved heavy furniture in & out of rooms, up & down stairs & out of the house with the grace & precision of a choreographed dance.  I guess you can tell I was pleased & impressed.

Overall a great moving experience. Brian came out to give a capped estimate with an approximate time frame for the move to take (5.5 hours).
The 3 movers were on time, professional, courteous, and accommodating. They moved our apartment furniture to the new house as well as assisted in moving some pre-existing furniture to different areas of the home. They never complained and were very accommodating. It was a very smooth moving experience and highly recommend their services.

They proposed padding and packing on one day and moving on the next so as to comply with coop rules limiting moves to the hours between 9-5. since the move took more than 8 hours, this was definitely they way to go. Other movers imagined moving in a single day which would clearly have been impossible without gravely infringing the coop rules. It would also have meant finishing the move with a totally exhausted crew. This made Shea stand out from the other movers' bids. Their estimate was the highest (by a few hundred dollars) but this plan seemed sensible and thoughtful. Sometimes a bit of thinking is a good thing.

The move went PERFECTLY!  I can't stress that enough.  There were NO SURPRISES, no additional charges, and NO DAMAGE.  These guys worked HARD, were exceedingly professional and polite and met our deadline.  I think one of the reasons it went so well is that we were completely packed and ready to go.  We'd wrapped furniture and mattresses in plastic we bought from Home Depot, and boxed everything prior to the moving day.  You don't have to be this prepared, but we needed to be because of the restrictions in our new building.  This meant that all they had to do was load our massively heavy stuff onto a tiny unreliable elevator (that didn't work the day before) and move us to a 21st floor apt a few miles away.  I was SOOO stressed going into this move, but Julie, Kevin, and their team worked magic and nothing was damaged.  Kevin also worked that move with an ankle injury - against my objections!  As for me on moving day I was fairly useless and drove the dogs to the park during most of the move.  My other half wasn't too thrilled with that.  This move couldn't have gone better.  Use Shea and you'll soon be recommending them and writing a positive review!  I also urge you to make it a point to tip everyone on the move team very well - these guys work harder than you or I can imagine...and I say that from experience - I worked for as mover once when I was younger - albeit only for 3 days :-).

Three movers went right to work and packed all the furniture and incidentals.  Wardrobe boxes were provided free.  Then two movers transported the furniture to PA.  They were very professional and personable, which greatly reduced the trauma of the move.  Loading and unloading went unbelievably well.  We can't recommend Shea enough to future clients.  Hire Shea!

A representative from Shea (Brian, I think? apologies, it has been many months since our move) to do an estimate in advance. Although we had a LOT of furniture and about 100 boxes in our apartment, the estimate was very reasonable and Mr. Shea quite pleasant.
On moving day, the Shea team showed up on time (8 AM), with one more person than they initially said they would have, and had us fully out of our apartment in 3 hours- extremely efficient. They were extremely careful with our stuff, and wrapped our furniture well. They did mar the stairwell wall of our apartment when moving the couch, but I am not sure that could have been avoided, to be honest. The whole team was also really respectful of our two terrified cats.
At our new house, again they had one more person than they planned, which made everything go faster. We specifically asked them to be extra-careful with the newly-refinished floors, and they were extremely diligent about this. They finished about 4:30. Everything was present and intact.
This was a big move on a very hot day. They moved us from a second floor walkup to a 4-story house and were quick, courteous, efficient, pleasant--and at the end of the day, they came in at about $200 LESS than their initial estimate. We couldn't have been more pleased and would definitely recommend Shea Moving to anyone.

I packed the items.  They took the packages from my apartment into the truck, moved it and then put them in my new apartment.  They did not unpack the items.  Everything was topnotch.  I have no complaints whatsoever.  I would recommend them to anybody.  They were very good.  It was about a 5-hour job.  I really didn’t shop around all that much.  It is the first time I have moved in New York.  I don’t know if I over paid or if I got the best price.  Their quality of service was excellent.  They were very courteous and everything about what they did was really excellent.  If I move again, they will be the first people that I would call.

They are EXCELLENT.  Punctual, careful, professional, organized, and they know how to work as a team.  They arrived on time and I was not 1he00% ready, so their men started moving my belongings and another helped me finish and put things in boxes.  They wrapped any stray items in paper or bubble wrap, took apart my king size bed as well as my dresser with attached mirror, and made sure everything was properly padded and secured.  They were fast (considering the amout of boxes and furtiture I had)., and  .professional.  The head of the crew made sure he knew exactly what I wanted to happen, and then made it happen.  On the other end, at my new co-op, they made sure the move-in went smoothly with no distruptions to the other share-holders.  They placed everything where I asked them to, arranged my living room furniture where I wanted it, and were professional throughout.  They were trustworthy and everything you want from a moving company.
