Stier, Dr. Ira

I have been able to get in and out quickly for routine cleanings. Dr. Stier takes the time during exams to answer my questions and explain the pros and cons of different treatment options. Being able to get dental work done under sedation was the primary reason I selected Dr. Stier. I have had good experience both times I have used the sedation option for dental work. Their costs seem high but they have done a reasonable job working with the insurance company to reduce my out of pocket costs.

It went very good. I've been using his service for four years. I like his convenient hours.

I will not return to this dentist - too many issues in the last 12 months have convinced me that this practice is more concerned with collecting my money than with providing me with high quality dental work.

My sister and her family have also been using this practice for years. Recently, my sister began going over the Explanation of Benefits provided to her by her insurance company. There were discrepancies between the services provided and what was billed for. She questioned the administrative staff repeatedly only to be told that she was wrong (my sister is also a qualified ICD-9 Medical Billing admin.) Knowing that she was NOT wrong, she delved deeper and discovered that the office was billing for procedures that she had been told were NOT COVERED by her insurance - AFTER SHE HAD PAID CASH for these procedures. Neither I, nor my family (a total of 9 patients) will ever return to this practice.

I am currently in the process of having a molar implant placed. It started with Dr Ira Stier's thorough examination and the thing that impressed me most was that he is actually also trying to save teeth rather than replace them with implants (like other dentists I have gone to). His treatment plan for me includes regular perio care (nothing new there - been doing that for years) and saving the teeth that other dentists wanted removed and replaced with implants. Sure, I can have them done if I want but there are other avenues to exhaust first.
The reason for the one implant is because another dentist went to repair a cavity under a crown and broke the tooth off below the gumline, then referred me to his implant specialist (periodontist) who was a young lady just out of dental school. I asked her how many implants she had done and she said while she was in school she did "many" implants. When I asked Dr Stier how long he has been doing this for and how many he had actually done, he was accurate enough that gave me good comfort (cant remember the exact numbers, but I felt re-assured this was the guy to do the work for me). Also, I have a very close friend who had an implant done by him a few years ago and she was very happy with him.
My only complaint is that the staff at the front desk in Fishkill are never very "nice", (but in Poughkeepsie, they are much nicer) It may just be their dispositions naturally but when I go there, they always seem like Im putting them out or something. Never the less, the work I am having done there and the care that I have been receiving has been excellent and more importantly, PAINLESS.
Oh yes and one more thing - maybe this isnt unusual at all but was never mentioned to me by the other dentists I went to for second opinions - he gave me a clear appliance (space retainer) to put over my teeth with a tooth in it. If this tooth were to show when I smiled, you would never know it was missing or that I had an appliance in my mouth. Its sort of like the visiline retainers that are clear. I only have to wear it at night but if I want to go out and laugh out loud, this really makes me feel more confident.
