"Thank you for the review!! :)"
"We have opened and closed [Member name removed] pool for a couple of years now. As we do with every homeowner, when we first do their pool opening or pool closing for the first time, we ask "Where is the equipment now and where do you like your equipment stored?". We closed the [Member name removed]pool on Saturday September 28, 2013. Later that day we received a phone call stating that we ripped her pool cover during the closing. We immediately responded to the call and went to her residence. When we got there she started accusing us of ripping her pool cover. I assured her that we did not. She showed us the damage. There were some holes and tears. The holes were most likely a result of an animal of some sort. If it were a rip it would have a flap. She continued on about how we ripped it on her rocks. I explained to her how these covers are very strong. I even demonstrated on rocks in front of her that even if it was dragged across them it wouldn't even make a mark, let alone put a tear in it. I also reminded her that we had a hurricane last year and 30" of snow and maybe the damage occurred then. When I put weight on the cover the tears lined up to where the rocks were, making it obvious that they were worn away at from constant weight being put on the cover. At this point she was not hearing us or being polite/professional so we left. Later on we received a phone call from [Member name removed] accusing us of ripping his cover. We then assured him that it was like that and not from us, giving him the same explanations that were given to his wife earlier. We then offered to get an estimate for him through Loop Loc because he was concerned about it getting worse and stuff falling in the pool. He said he would let us know. A couple of days later we received a phone call saying that he didn't like the way the cover was sitting so we made an appointment to go check it out. We reset it for him even though it was done right the first time. We then showed him the holes and how there aren't any flaps etc. He seemed ok with everything. Again we offered to bring it to Loop Loc for an estimate for the repair. He declined. A week or two goes by and we get a certified letter stating that we stored the cover in the shed and due to our negligence their cover got damaged and they demanded that we replace the cover. Soon after that we got a call from the Better Business Bureau and later on from Angie's List. We are a family owned and operated pool company. We strive to be the best and to put the customer first. What we won't do is pay for someone elses mistake. We provide a service, we do not offer insurance on peoples pool, pool equipment or pool covers. Nor do we monitor their pool or pool related items after a pool opening or closing. It is the homeowners responsibility. We put the equipment exactly where we are instructed to by the homeowner. What happens while it's there during the season is not in our control. A few points I would like to point out: 1. The cover was not made correctly for the application it was installed on. The [Member name removed] have a rough, rock edge and the cover has no built it plastic guards or buffers. 2. The cover is over 6 years old and just went through a hurricane and 30 plus inches of snow. If anything it needs a repair, not to be replaced. 3. She changed her story. First she accused us of ripping her cover while installing it. Then she said because we stored it in her shed (where she told us to) it was damaged. 4. Instead of asking for us to pay for a repair, they demanded a new pool cover. 5. We appreciate their business and do not want to lose them as a client but we will not pay for a cover that we did not damage."
p.s. I didn't even know Poolsmith was on Angies List.... I was looking for something else and saw them listed and HAD to inform the customers what a great company they are! Thanks guys!
"Your Welcome, Thank you for your business! :)"
"In certain circumstances we need to expel water out of a persons pool while cleaning it. We provide a service called a power vacuum. We dispatch at least 2 guys per vacuum. They are instructed to do the job in a professional manner and as fast as possible while still providing quality service. The hourly rate for this service is $75.00/hr. We are too busy to prolong a job. We apologize if you misunderstood us on the phone. We haven't raised our prices since 2006."
After reading a positive review from Angie's List, we hired Poolsmith to replace our leaking return line...
At the estimate, they immediately discovered the leak and which return line was affected. They informed us of the procedure...Break the surrounding concrete near the beginning of the return line (near the steps) and dig out a trench in our front yard, leading to the filer. Replace the return line...
We expressed our concerns about the breaking of the concrete and how it would look at the end of the project. The previous owner was a mason and left us with a great concrete job surrounding our pool, which is beautifully pointed (clean edges), beautifully separated boxes. Demitri reassured us, saying he was an expert mason. He promised us he would make the job as "asthetically pleasing" as possible, returning it to 90% of its original appearance.
When we agreed to the job, they immediately put a "Poolsmith" sign in the front without asking. Wouldn't have minded it too much, but they put it on our neighbors property by mistake. If they had asked, we may have allowed it and placed in the right position, when they were performing the work.
They intially agreed to begin work on a Sunday morning. However, they decided to show the evening before, on a Saturday, when we had company over the house. Didn't announce they were going to come early...Made the initial concrete cuts and we were furious...
The next day they began breaking the concrete. They used the most inexperienced, youngest, and weakest person to use the sledge hammer. As he struggled by himself, the other experienced worker watching, I noticed he was missing with the hammer, smashing the areas of concrete that weren't to be touched. No doubt a more skilled person with greater experience and srength could have been more precise. I went out and asked how they would fix it. They said they would restore it. I had hoped they would make a cut in a straight line to to get rid of the smash marks. Either way, this wasn't how we expected things to be.
I also observed the workers help themselves to tools in my shed and garage. We never gave them permission to enter either area. They decided to help themselves to our wheel barrow to dump the large pieces of concrete when we stepped away for a while. We didn't realize until after they completed the job, they cracked the wheel barrow. They just put it back in our shed and never said a word...
When they ended their work, they seemed to expect a tip, but we couldn't because of the poor job of breaking the concrete. We could sense their frustration...
They were able to effieciently place a line in ground within one day and replace our grass in the front yard. The line runs well, very powerful, very efficient.
The last part of the job was the filling of concrete. This was the worst performance of the job, by far. A low level mix of concrete, which looks completely different from our original job. One can tell the mix was shabby, either a low level grade or poor mix...prone to rust and grime...In addition, there was no pointing (clean edges), just a filling of the trench, so the miss hits were not repaired, just a filling. No straight lines...by far, the worst masonry work I've ever seen. It seemed like they were more concerned about getting a tip during a hot day, as one worker complained of the heat and how hard he had worked. We could sense the tension...
We understood the concrete was going to look different after the work was performed, but had Demitri not boasted about his spectacular masonry skills, our expections would not have been as great. Either way, this masonry work shows the skills of an amateur. Makes me wonder how they would install a pool and the surrounding landscaping...
When we complained about the masonry work, they took no responsibility, and did nothing about it. Now, $3,100 later, we have to hire a real mason to fix the horrible masonry job by Poolsmith.
It seems that Poolsmith know about pools, lines, openings and closings. However, we did not schedule a closing with them. The line runs well, more powerful than ever. However, appearance is important as well. The workers at Poolsmith seemed to beam with pride about their attention to detail and appearance. This was absolutely not the case.
There was once a time where we gazed at our pool with a sense of pride. Now when we look at, we often turn away with disgust, remembering the pathetic job by this company, their lack of professionalism and ownership of responsibility, and how we have to have a real mason come back to fix this mess...
"WOW! now that's low... You get what you pay for. You hired us to find your leak, we did. We gave you an estimate on how much it would be to repair it the RIGHT way. You asked if there were other options. We said no. You continued to haggle us and give us other methods of doing the job, we stood our ground. We have a reputation to hold. After all of the going back and forth with this FRUGAL couple. We decided to do what we do best and just run the line so we could save this pleasant customer some money. They were gonna handle the rest of the job (filling in the concrete). This is what we get in return. BAD FEEDBACK! wow, i guess you should have hired us to do the entire job instead of trying to do what we do and fail!"
"What a pleasure it was working for you! Thank You for your continued business! : )"
