They came out on a Friday and told me they would put the estimate in the mail on Monday, but that was three weeks ago so I don’t think I will ever hear back from them.  I thought that was pretty unbusiness-like.   They were physically here on time, but they punctuality is poor if they never send me a quote.
Response from Northside Company

"MEMBER ESTIMATE WAS MAILED TO HER AS I WAS INSTRUCTED TO DO . WE NEVER HERD BACK FROM HER WHICH IS COMMON WHEN A HOME OWNER DOES NOT WANT WORK DONE AND I DO NOT MAKE FALLOW UP CALLS ON REPAIR ESTIMATES HAD SHE CALLED BACK I WOULD HAVE MORE THEN GLAD TO BRING HER A COPY. THANK YOU SAL BARBIERI"

Sal was great during the estimation process; he provided straight up pricing, no high pressure or fake discounts like some other firms. He very knowledable (26 yrs in business),  provided samples, and his web site has a great color selection tool.

The roofing installation team was amazing; they arrived early and wasted no time in getting to work. You can tell this team has worked together for a long time. They were all knowledgeable, skilled and efficient. No standing around for this team, they got to work and stayed at it until the immaculate cleanup was complete. This team has a great work ethic. . The team leader, Chris, was wonderful in answering questions and making sure we were pleased with the finished product. Clean up included removing small marks on the siding and a nail magnet to assure any loose nails were picked up - Important to a grandma with small grandkids around.

The gutter installation team was just as knowledgeable, efficient and concerned for customer satisfaction. This is another Northside team with a great work ethic. We were amazed at the speed and neatness of the installation. We are so pleased with the look and efficiency of the new gutters.

In summary, if you want a firm that provides an excellent product, no high pressure, great employees that know what they are doing and is concerned with customer satisfaction than be confident in selecting Northside Roofing.

Northside Roofing was the first to respond to my quote request and provided a very fair price.  Showed up and completed the job as scheduled.  Quality of the products and workmanship was/is excellent.  Crew was professional, polite and friendly.  Minimal if any impact on day to day activities even with a full tear off.  Highly recommend!

p.s  Northside made sure I would no longer  have a problem with my flat roof section.  Installed a  system that included running the protection up and under the siding for added protection.  Looks great and provides peace of mind.

We chose them because of their rating on Angie's List. They are in our neighborhood and we like to go with people in the area. They presented themselves very well and seemed to know what they were doing. The owner was right on top of things. When they did the work they did it well. They are excellent and do a good job. You get what you pay for. They have an office and are not a fly- by- night group. I will use them again.

Great company to work with.  They are thorough in their pre-work inspection, their estimate is accurate.  They use top quality materials (as opposed to other quotes who used mid grade materials and changed just as much).  They cleaned up after themselves and Sal came back later to make sure everything was OK.  This company knows what they are doing and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend and/or use them again!

They called the day before showing up to see if it was all right to begin. They showed up the following day with a crew of 8 or 9, I talked with the foreman about a couple of things that I wanted off the roof and they were finished with the tear off, installing the plywood and sealing it by the end of the first day, which protected it from the rain and light snow that night. The next day the crew was back and worked all day and the following half day to finish. The cleanup was great - they really cared about making sure all nails were up. The estimate was honored and I am very satisfied with the performance, professionalism and quality of their work. The owner Sal was great to work with.

We weren't all that impressed with the foreman. The owner was fine and always corrected what was wrong. They had a lot of people up there to get it done quickly. The foreman just wants to get the work done but he's not real good with dealing with people. The foreman was not good with interacting. You need to babysit when they come to make sure they are getting done what you want to be done. I thought they were more of in a hurry than I wanted. The gutter guy was terrific.

There have been two instances of leaks again. The first time northside sent some people over to fix the first leak that occurred after the first big snowfall. There has been a leak in another area of the kitchen which did not exist with the old roof. They have not been responsive and the company has been disappointing. We have been left with a leaky roof and a hole of several thousand dollars. The cellphone number for their representative, Mark, goes straight to voicemail

I requested an estimate for a roofing job from this firm. I met with Sal Barbieri, the owner, and he was on time, professional, friendly, very informative, we discussed the pros and cons of various methods to get the job done, he inspected the roof and pointed out various failures and need for repair in particular. He gave me a very professional typed estimate at the end of the discussion. In the end, based on price, I selected this firm to perform the work in the Spring of 2011 - will follow with a report after that work is performed.

I called Northside thinking I had a leak in my roof...a spot on the ceiling. Sal came the next morning to look at my roof. He was courteous and professional and discovered I have bees, not a leaky roof. I did not need his services at this time, but will keep his card for future needs.

First of all they returned my phone calls, all my phone calls. That is not a given. The owner, Sal, did the estimate, answered all my questions and helped me choose the shingles. The work crew arrived at 6:30 a.m. on Monday and the entire project was done by 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Mark, who over saw the onsite crews, was great. He arrived on time, answered all my questions, and kept that crew moving. I have yet to find a roofing nail in the yard or on the driveway. In fact, my driveway was cleaner when they left than when they arrived.... Overall I was very pleased with all my interactions and the work they did. Too bad I won't need a new roof on this house for another 15 years!

Sal Barbieri, the owner of Northside Roofing came over to do the estimate, he was thorough and his estimate was very straight forward. He recommended a 30 year architectural shingle and showed us samples to help us decide which color and style we wanted. We went with one of his recommendations, which we are very happy with. Materials were delivered about a week later and stowed rooftop and the work commenced the following day. The entire crew was very polite and very professional. They took great care to protect our landscaping and did a thorough job on clean up. They were a pleasure to have at our home. The foreman of the crew, I think his name was John, actually took a few minutes to clear out our gutter. I highly recommend this contractor!!! They're honest, do a great job, and the crew is great!

My husband did most of the dealing with the contractors. They were very professional and competitively priced. They came when they said they would and finished the job quickly. They also cleaned up after themselves and did not leave a lot of debris.

Northside was absolutely fantastic! We have absolutely no complaints about them. We got several estimates for this job and while they were not the cheapest (but also not the most expensive by a long shot), we felt most comfortable with choosing them. Mark took the time to sit down with us and explain everything that was going to be done and everything was done exactly as he said it would. They were always professional and always on time. Also, we had a minor issue with our insurance company with the new roof and Northside worked with us and the insurance company to make sure that our new roof was covered. They were great. We will definitely use them again, and recommend them to everyone we know.

I got 7 estimates for this job. Northside's was on the higher end (but not the highest) and their estimator, Mark, was easy to work with and gave me all of the critical details upfront. For the other contractors I contacted, I found myself trying to track down information on their warranties, insurance, etc, but Northside had all of their ducks in a row. The crew was extremely well organized and did a great job on the roof. I highly recommend Northside.

I called Northside roofing to get an estimate on a roofing project. At that time, I didn't own the house yet, since I was waiting for the closing date. When I called I clearly explained my situation to the person who answered the phone and he didn't say anything about it. He said he was going to call me back the next day to schedule an appointment. The next day came and I received no call from them. So I called them back to ask them what was going on. To my surprise, this time they told me that they couldn't give me an estimate since I didn't own the house. I don't care if that's their policy, if they want to throw away potential business, it's their call, but I didn't like the fact that they made me waste my time calling them back instead of telling me straight from the beginning that they wouldn't give me an estimate.
Response from Northside Company

"In response to the member's statement, we did call him back and on his first phone call to us we did explain that we "do not do estimates on speculation of occupancy" (a property that you “might” purchases) and if we did there was a fee for a “None Home Owner Occupancy Quote“. Other wise the estimates are always free. If a customers "does" pay for the quote given on a home they “do not own“, and then hires our company, we "deduct" that amount paid from the contract price as a "credit" back to the customer. We did offer to provide a quote in this manor, he did not agree with our policy and felt he should not have to pay. Our estimates are quit through and involved. They can be time consuming, also we need access to the attic of the home to inspect the underside of the roof for damage such as mold or improper ventilation and or exhaust fan venting as to provide a competent estimate. Being that Mr.Godoy did not own the home we would not have been able to do a full inspection as he could not provide us access. In attempt to try to help the member, I had mentioned that if I could find time in our busy schedule, the following day we might be able to do a quick ball park estimate if we happened to be in the area of his perspective property at "No CHARGE". We did call him back, left message. He did follow up with us, and I had let him know that we did not have a chance to drive by his home and if by chance was in the area in the next few weeks I would give him a call with a quote again at "No Charge". This may seem like we were not attending to the member's needs but we have a very large customer base, that do occupy there residents and were in more urgent need of our service’s. Once again we did offer to make an appointment with the member but as state above he did not wish to pay for our services as this manor dictated. In closing we feel that the member's rating of our company was unjust and unwarranted ,simply because he disagrees with our company policy. And for this we are truly sorry. As always Norhtside Roofing continues to provide excellent service and quality craftsmanship to our large customer base, and we look forward to continuing our business with all of our Angie’s List clients!!!"

I hired Northside Roofing to install a new roof on my home built in 1940. I got bids from 4 contractors and narrowed it done to two A Best Construction and Northside Roofing. I decided on Northside because he only did roofing and told me he had his own crew, used no sub-contractors and was a GAF Master Elite roofer. His bid was not as detailed as A Best Contstruction but seemed to list the necessary aspects of the job. He was also about $1000 cheaper due in part to a $250 Angies list coupon. The roofers were to start at 7:30 AM on a Monday morning which I thought was a bit early but OK, I knew it was a big job. However, that Monday the job was to begin, I was awakened at 5:30 AM, that's right 5:30 AM by pounding on my front door. I could not imagine what was going on. I threw on a robe and opened door to find a young man standing there and out in the (still dark) street a large black truck and a gang of 10 to 15 laborers. The young man said they were there to do the roof and were from Goshen or something like that. I said you are from WHERE, he said oh Northside Roofing and they wanted to get started. I was very annoyed and should have sent them away but agreed (with a bad feeling) to let them start, cautioning them not to crush my plants and shubbery. And start they did. It sounded and felt like all of them were on the roof at one time -- the noise was deafening and the whole house was shaking. They worked from 5:30 AM until almost 9:00 at night. They started again early the next morning and worked into the afternoon. I had to leave for an appointment and by the time I returned they were gone. The next day an employee of Northside came by to install 28 (they only put in 26) soffit vents. The owner called to ask me how the job went and I told him there was a major problem of a huge gap where the house met the garage roof and where the house met the front porch -- I could see down into the roof and that it needed to be sealed up in some way. The owner came by and repaired a broken shingle, cleaned up some of the debris left in my garage. He then said everything was fine --- my roof was lower because it was a tear-off, hence the very unattractive gap. I did not think everything was fine so hired a roofing inspector who told me that the flashing was improperly done on the garage and porch roofs and that the gap needed to be sealed, otherwise I would get leakage. Northside had not been paid so they did come back and redo the flashing where necessary and caulk the gaps. The inspector returned and the roof then did pass inspection and is OK. However, I cannot recommend this company. The big show stopper for me was I did not want any subcontractors. This company subcontracts and tells you they do not. They turn around big roofing jobs in 2-1/2 days. Faster is not better. Although they cleaned up the yard well, they dumped a lot of fine roofing debris (dirt) into my garage because they did not properly protect it. The covered my plants with tarp but crushed my hydrangeas and then cut the tops off to try to hide it. They did not alert me to or satisfactorily address the gap between my house and the roof due to the tear off lowering my roof. Bottom line, I should have paid the extra money and hired A Best Construction.
Response from Northside Company

"In response to the member’s comments in regards to the work we preformed at her home, we would like to make the following statement. First and for-most we are a “Certified Master Elite Contractor” and authorized by “GAF/ELK”. No subcontractors were used on her project. We do admit that our crew did jump the gun and get to work earlier than we would have hope. The weather was calling for rain later in the day and our foreman made the decision to star at 6am, but not 5:30. For this we do apologize. We did send a fair amount of our employees to her home, but not 15! That would have included everyone in our company, we did have other jobs to do that day so there was no way we could of sent that many employees. “Yes” I’m sure there was a lot of noise. I’m not sure what was to be expected. Of course there was a lot of noise to be heard we were tearing three layer of roofing off of her home, and the base layer was cedar shake. Its definitely a project, but nothing were not accustom to. I’m not quit sure how we could avoided the noise. As far as the amount of soffit vents that were installed we did estimate 28, and 26 did get applied. This was done in the interest of aesthetics to keep the vents evenly space and look balanced but the function of the vents was not compromised. The member's house had three layers of roofing on it. There for when removing multiple layers of roofing that had been on the home over a number of years inevitably there will be what appears to be a some sort of gap. Its more or less a reveal of the siding (cedar siding) that was covered up by the multiple layers of roofing over time. In regard to the “step flashing”. It was installed, and installed correctly! We spoke directly to the inspector who admitted he made a mistake on his own inspection. He admitted that he did not lift the shingles up high enough to do a proper inspection because he was afraid he would damage the shingle and disrupt the sealant that was applied along the exterior wall where it meets the roof, due to the fact that the roof was “freshly installed” There for not being able to have the step flashing in full view. We asked him to go back and do what ever he need to do to verify to the home owner that the flashing was there and installed correctly. If need be feel free to contact “Gunther Home Inspections” at 585-349-3900. Ask for the Inspector who preformed the inspection at the above address. There was a statement made that “we turned around a big job in two and a half days”. Her home was only a 20 square job, an average job at best! The timeline of two days was not unreasonable…..at all. We did break two small branches on her hydrangeas an again we do apologies for that. Our foreman did make us aware of the incident and we did inform her. I must say her yard was immaculately keep and landscaped beautifully with many, many plants. And we did take extreme caution in protecting her yard as we do on every project The probability of having absolutely not one broken small branch though out the whole project is very low. Were not saying that it is expectable but we feel that we took the most extreme efforts to ensure the protection and safety of her property and it was a minuet incident. If the statements made by the member in this report yielded and concern to our future client base, please feel free to call us at our office or drive bye the above address to observe the work we had preformed. We would be happy to discuss and questions you may have. In any event, Nothside Roofing is committed to excellence in the industries and will continue to serve our customers to the best of our ability as we have been doing since 1987. As our Angie's list report reflects we have earned the highest of accolades from our past customers and we appreciate there continued business."

I was very pleased. Northside's owner, Sal Barbieri, came out a few days after I called for an estimate. I walked the roof with him, as I had some concerns about the chimney region. Sal answered all my questions and gave me an estimate on the spot. After I obtained some other estimates, I had some final questions, which I stopped by his nearby office to ask. He showed me the materials he would be using and drove me to some nearby houses he'd done to show me some different shingle colors. I requested some customer references, both recent and a year old. The two people that I picked to call were both very pleased by Northside's work. I then signed the contract. On the scheduled day, the whole crew arrived and immediately began the tear-off and some plywood replacement. They also relocated the bathroom vents on the roof and reconnected them while proceeding with the new shingles. The crew was efficient and courteous. They actually finished the whole job in one day, including clean up. The dumpster was removed the next morning. I had the opportunity to watch some of the work. They used a lot of the ice-and-water-shield material, not only at the edges and valleys, but in potential problem areas, like the chimney. I believe that they did a careful and quality job. I have recommended them to several neighbors who have asked.
