I have no complaints with what they did; they did a good job and cleaned up well afterwards. It was fairly priced and I recommend them to other people that I know.

Our 20+ y.o. home had both upstairs bath exhaust fans improperly ducted direct into the attic. They terminated near a soffit vent which caused significant ice damming and icicles at the eave during a recent cold snap with significant snowfall. All of which, unfortunately, was directly over the kitchen skylights. Large icicles crashing down onto your skylights will get your attention right quick! Only a week later, we now have a weather window where the snow has melted off the roof and I hoped to find a contractor able to install the proper venting on short notice as I'm just getting too old to do the high roof work. After checking the Angie List reviews I called Northside and emailed a few photos to show the scope of work. Sal responded within 20 mins. and said he had a crew working in my area the next day. After making certain I would be available, he called them to verify they could fit me in their schedule and then called me right back to confirm. Workers showed up next day 1/2 hr. ahead of schedule, installed and connected the vents and were on their way in about an hour. Vents were black enamel steel housings with back draft dampers, not lightweight aluminum. Workers took care to install both vents on the same shingle line at equal distance between peak and eaves for consistency and best visual aesthetics. Roof vent aesthetics, who knew?! Fabulous service and, so long as nothing leaks going forward, I am very satisfied. Thank you Sal and Northside Roofing for a job well done!

The bathroom exhaust fan started leaking during a heavy rain on 11/11/12. I called Northside on Tuesday, 11/13, and spoke to Sal, who said he would be over to check the problem the next morning.  He found that the existing exterior vent pipe was improperly installed through the shingles. We agreed that he would replace the vent pipe and shingles, as needed, for $350. The work was completed the next day.  Unfortunately, three weeks later we had another heavy rain and the exhaust fan started leaking again.  I called Sal and two days later he did some additional work, for no added cost, and the exhaust fan has not leaked since, even during the several days of rain we had around 12/18.

The estimate was explained in great detail, with samples included. I was given addresses of other projects to do a "drive-by" to see different styles and colors.
The crew showed up on time, did the work as expected, made suggestions when new issues popped up and cleaned up expertly. They were friendly and courteous, a pleasure to work with - from the owner, to the salesman to the crew.
I recommend Northside Roofing without hesitation - and already have!

The price Northside quoted was very close to the others I
got except for one that was extremely low. After getting the very low quote I
could not contact that company again. They wouldn?t answer the phone and would
not return calls. So I didn?t consider it a valid estimate.
The work began within a reasonable time of signing the
contract and was completed well within the amount of time estimated. The work
crew was efficient, cooperative and courteous. I can?t say that ever piece of
debris was picked up (lots of debris with this much material being removed) but
cleanup was well within my expectations.
There was an issue with the installation of Soffit vents
however that I found completely unsatisfactory. I was told the addition of
Soffit vents would be included in the job which they were. But after the job
was complete, I counted 12, 3 inch diameter vents which looked like a very
small amount of ventilation compared to other homes. So I did some reading and
found there is an FHA requirement for Soffit vent net free area. And the amount
of net free area that was installed was only about 10% of this FHA
specification. This specification is widely used in the construction industry
and is in fact referenced on the GAF website. I voiced my concern about this to
Northside and was told that that the vents they put in was enough and that the
FHA requirement was really just a ?guideline?. I told them that I didn?t agree
and was not satisfied but they said I would have to pay for any additional
vents.
I?m not really concerned that this issue will cause roof
leaks since I haven?t had any before but it may cause problems with an
inspection when I sell the house.
In hindsight, if I had known exactly what I was getting in
the way of Soffit vents. I probably would have picked one of the other
companies, one of which was very specific about vent area in their estimate.
But since Northide has a good rating on Angies, the lack of detail in the
contract did not concern me. Lesson learned!
Consequently it?s possible I would consider having them do
work again but I would require a very specific contract.

We had our home listed for sale. Although there was no problem with the roof, the potential buyers noted some minor wear in a few of the valleys on our roof. Other companies were unwilling to do the repair because they said they could never match the existing roof. Northside's guy knew what the roof material was immediately and said he could replace the worn shingles, saving us from an entire roof replacement. They did the work while we were on vacation. The roof match was great, considering the roof was 10+ years old, and we thought the price was fair. Our only complaint was that they damaged a few of our bushes and left scraps, nails, etc., around the front of our home. The owner apologized but never offered to clean it up, which we did ourselves as we had upcoming showings. We would still highly recommend Northside Roofing. The only reason we would not use them again is that we moved to North Carolina.

Considering that a roof will be on your house for up to thirty years and if it fails it will likely cause many problems and damage your home, deciding on a roofer is a very important decision.  Roofers, in general do not have the highest reputation amongst contractors.  Horror stories are far more common than good news stories about having roofs installed.  Use every tool possible to evaluate a roofer.  There is no such thing as a bargain in roofing.
Our process in selecting Northside Roofing included, getting estimates from eight other roofers.  The estimates varied from $10,000 to $17,000.  We then checked Angie's list to see how the roofers were rated.  Next, we checked with the local Better Business Bureau and the Better Contractors Bureau find out if there were complaints the companies that provided quotes.  The Better Contractors Bureau was useless.  Next, we used the Monroe County Courts online database to see if there were judgements against the roofers we were considering.  Lastly, we asked neighbors and friends on Facebook for recommendations.
The best estimate presentation came from a company that we later discovered had more than $700,000 in judgements against them, so we recommend that you do not make a decision on the basis of the best sales presentation.
Northside Roofing scored highest of all other roofers we reviewed.  Additionally, they were the only roofer we contacted that was an Elite installer for GAF products.  What that means is that the warranty from GAF is better than most other roofers could offer.
Sal Barbieri warned us that although his roofers would make every effort to protect plants around our house, some might be damaged.  His employees made every effort to protect plants and only one or two was slightly damaged.  We consider the effort made excellent.  He also warned us that although they would make every effort to clean up nails and debris, we might find a roofing nail or two around the house.  He made good here as well.  We have found just a few nails and discarded them.
Sal gave us a work schedule.  His workers showed up on time and were finished when he said that they would be finished.  At the end of every workday, the site was cleared and cleaned.  The workers were courteous and punctual.
Most importantly and almost miraculously, there were no additional expenses added to the to the bill at the end of the job.  Past experience with other contractors always leads me to expect unforeseen costs showing up in the final bill.  There always seems to be that moment when a contractor says, "I've never seen anything like that before" followed by "That is going to cost you."  Not so with Sal and Northside Roofing.  His final bill was exactly what he quoted us at the beginning.
We would recommend Northside Roofing without hesitation to anyone, especially someone without knowledge of roofing or someone who could easily be taken advantage of.  Our dealings with Sal Barbieri convinced us that he is honest, straight forward, and true to his word.  We feel that we got exactly what we paid for and a little more.  Sal is a nice person to work with and we now understand why Northside Roofing is one of the highest rated roofers in the area.  We trust him and his company.

I don't actually own the home it is my sister's. She does not live in the area and asked me to get some quotes for her. The guy would not give me the quote. He was not very nice. We wanted to get the whole roof done so it would of been about $10,000 worth of work. I would not recommend them. There was no professionalism. He wrote the quote on a book he had and I sent the stuff to my sister and told her what happened. I guess her brother in law called the guy at Northside Roofing and he acted like he had never been in my house. He sat down at the table in the dinning room. He actually had the nerve to call me and tell me he needed to come out and measure everything. He said he didn't remember meeting me and being in my house. So I thought that was very unprofessional. He was one of the most recommended people and that was why I called him. The three things out of his mouth were, "I'm the most recommend by Angie's List". That might be true but he was very rude to me. I was just very surprised. When I called to get the quote, I did explained that I was getting the quote for my sister who owns the home and lives out of town.

Marshall (sales) was very thorough with his presentation. He came prepared with samples of their product which was good to see the quality of the materials. He explained what would be done step by step, how long it should take, number of men on the crew and the clean up that would be done. The owner, Sal called to arrange the time for when the job would be started. He later came by to double check on the job to be accomplished and informed me that they job would be started later than planned due to rain delay on another job. I was okay with that. It turned out that the crew that came to do the roof was not the crew I was expecting because they got caught on a really tough job. The three "young" guys that came did a really nice job on the roof as far as I can tell. They came on those two HOT days and of course there were bees. Some of the clean up could have probably been better - roofing nails caught between the boards of the deck and some old shingle pieces in with the garden mulch. But, considering how hot it was, I thought they held it together pretty well and accomplished the job over all. The excess material sat on my lawn for quite a few days after though. It was finally picked up 5 days later.Overall. I would hire them again to do this job.

I called Northside looking for an estimate.   They have very good marks on Angie's List and most of the reviews said they were reputable, easy to work with, etc.   That was not my experience at all!
First of all, it took over a week for anyone to return my call.   Then Marshall (the estimator) finally called me back to set an appointment.   It was 2 weeks out! For an estimate!!
The day of the estimate rolls around and I have to leave work early to make sure I'm home in time to meet Marshall.   HE NEVER SHOWED UP!   I waited until 45 minutes after our scheduled time before I called the cell phone number he left me.   He said "I was there but I got a call and I had to leave."   It turns out, he had gone to the wrong house.   He left his card in the door of the neighbor across the street (the neighbor who has a brand new roof I might add- which makes me already think this Marshall isn't too swift).
So I said fine, mistakes happen, and I reschedule the appointment.   Another week later.   So now we're at the 4 week mark- just for an estimate.   The appointment was for Saturday May 12 at 4pm.   At 4:30pm that day I called Marshall again and asked if he was coming.   His response "Oh yeah, I got held up but I'm on my way now."   Fine, I keep waiting.   At 4:45pm I called again.   He says "I'm about 10 minutes out."   Okie dokie.   He finally shows up at 5:20pm.   For those of you keeping score at home that's 1 hour and 20 minutes late!
So he takes a walk around the house.   He never went up on the roof so given that we have 2 stories and not a very deep pitch I'm not sure how he even could see the roof from the ground, because I can't.   Then he comes inside and we sit down at the table.   I tell him that I want 3 estimates: one for a full tear off, one for just another layer of shingle, and a third for just a repair job.   He pats my hand (BIG mistake) and tells essentially me that I don't know what I really want, that they'll only do a full tear off, and that they're the very best company around.   Then he says that ballpark it would be $4700, but he can't really explain what for and he doesn't have any paperwork other than a business card to leave with me.
Well now I've already decided that there's NO WAY I'm ever going to do business with this guy.   I mean he wasn't even dressed professionally, he was wearing a hawaiian shirt, khaki shorts, and sandals.   This was a business meeting not a day at the beach!   But, just for comparison purposes, I asked him to do a full write up on the estimate for me anyway.   He says no problem and that he'll email it to me in the next week or so.
That was over 2 months ago and I still have no estimate from these guys.   My husband is convinced Marshall was just casing our house so that he could rob us.   I disagree, but I still think this is about the worst experience I've ever had with a contractor.   Buyer beware!
Response from Northside Company

"First let me say that I have been a professional salesperson for over 25 years and never have I been accused of being not too swift. I believe this customer has embellished her meeting with me to serve her point. I was at wrong house because of wrong house number, we do siding and windows so if they already had a new roof doesn't mean they didn't call, I was late but I called to say I was late and I'm sorry we're busy and I cannot just be everywhere and sometimes you have to re set due to being busy. I do not need to go on roof to measure, I do not own a Hawaiian shirt, I leave a full GAF package with all materials and pricing. I remember this woman and her boyfriend who just arrived with there take out food and wanted to eat. She was very rude to me and treated me very improperly. I am a professional and when she asked me for all these different quotes I admit I did not send them. My mistake, but I also know people, this customer was not going to buy from me no matter what I said or did. She had an attitude. Do you believe it was necessary to also say they think I was looking to rob them. I can't believe that accusation. I am sorry I accidently touched her hand and I apologized at the table, it was not intentional and I meant nothing by it. I will send quotes to all customers and I am very sorry that this customer was not satisfied with me and I will always send quotes to all in the future. I am not un-professioal and pride myself in giving a professional presentation. Marshall Mutnick"

We called Northside for a roofing estimate.  The salesmen came out and talked to us for nearly 1/2 hour.  He acted like we knew nothing and put down other companies.  We were supposed to get a call within 4 days to schedule a time for him to review the estimate.  We got no call and no estimate.  I'm not sure how this company got such a good rating on Angie's list.  I wouldn't bother calling Northside!!

We had a new roof put on a few years ago by a different company. After battling leaks for 2 years with this other company, we ended up needed to replace the entire roof again. North side was one of many companies we contacted about the job. Our house had a very difficult roof and north side, while more expensive than others, seemed to have a good understanding. The crew was professional and the roof looked very good. Then this spring the leaks started. North side was very responsive. Often calling us back within minutes. It took them a few tries to find and eliminate the leaks. Like I said, our house has a nightmare geometry for roofs. But unlike the first roofer, north side responded with the same professionals every time. Good company. Wesley and scott are customer focused and skilled.

I chose Northside because of their reputation and above all, I wanted an important job done right.
Also got bids from several other roofers before choosing Northside. They weren't the lowest bidder but I knew, they knew - their business.

It was a small ranch (easy job) but after receiving a verbal price, surprisingly, Sal refused to accept the Angie's List Coupon.  He tried to defend his response by saying "There wasn't a lot of profit in the job and material prices have gone up."  I feel he absolutely should have honored the $250 Angie coupon regardless.  He must have sensed I was going to hire him regardless but that is bad business not to stand behind an offer affiliated with Angie's List.

Crew was punctual, polite and orderly.
Kudos to Joe, the job foreman who was especially helpful and in answering questions as the work progressed.
Used Lifetime High quality GAF archtechtural roofing / 50 yr., Roof vent, Ice shield, and good felt underlay.
Dumpster container service operator left some unsightly scrap marks on the driveway finish when they removed the container.  I brought them to the driver's attentions and he said they would disappear with a few rainfalls which of course, they never did.

Had complete tear-off and roofing job done. Sal came out to give me an estimate and met when it was convenient for me. After measuring the roof and showing me some samples, he was able to write up the estimate with the details on the spot. Once I agreed to hire them, the job was scheduled within a week or so. The crew arrived on a Monday, did the tear off and prepared for putting down the new roof. When I got home Tuesday it was done and everything was cleaned up around the house. I found a couple of nails but otherwise it was spotless. Sal came out a day or so later to check up on the job. I mentioned the crew had forgotten to put in bathroom fan vents (part of the job I requested) and within a day I came home and the vents were installed. All-in-all they did a great job. I'd recommend them to anyone looking to get a roofing job done.

As in anything you do something always goes wrong.  The crew did an excellent job working with the material supplier and fixing the problem.  The window wrap sent was the wrong material and 1/3 of the house had been sided.  In one day they received the new product removed, recut and reinstalled plus completed an additional 1/3 of the house.  Our house looks great and we have had several compliments because of the work they did.  They weren't the cheapest of the quotes we got but we are glad we picked them.  Thanks Northside!!!
