Called the office to get a plumber to come give a price on fixing faucet and drain on two separate bath tubs. I was informed that there is a $40 charge for the service call which is applicable against work performed. First I thougt that they advertised that estimates were free - I guess not. It was OK since I was planning on getting the work done anyhow, it did however seem a bit shady. When the plumber came and looked at the tub, he said that he doesn't have the necessary parts and that I should try and find them myself because he doesn't know where to get them. Really, I should pay him for his expertise and still be responsible for finding my own parts? Then I asked for an estimate on fixing the drain in the other tub - $550 ! Wow that is more than double what another licensed plumber quoted for the same exact job. So when he was leaving he said I had to pay $40 for the service call. Let's get this straight - I hire you to do do a job, you can't do the job and I still have to pay for the service call. Outrageous! Finally 2 days later the office calls to tell me that if I want them to come back an finish repacing the faucet it would be $595. That's after I already purchased the parts myself. How many hours can it possibly take to replace a faucet? I can't speak to the qualty of Ray the Plumber's work, however, at double the price of other qualified plumbers I would never deal with them again. I consider myself lucky to only have lost $40 versus hundreds.

With a baby on the way, we were afraid that the rusty pipes leading to both faucets and a shower were contaminating the water in some way. We called Ray the Plumber through a friend's referral. Christine was very polite and professional and assured us that she could assist us - she said she could have one of her guys out to assess the situation as soon as we needed. He was there within 4 hours, where he determined that all of the pipes were necessary to replace. We felt comfortable and confident when speaking with him that he was experienced and had been doing this for years, and we were also comfortable with him in our home. He did a great, respectable job and didn't leave a mess like other contractors we've hired in the past. We will absolutely refer and hire Ray the Plumber for future work.

I work in an office of about 20 or so people. There are two bathrooms for those 20 people so you know where I'm going with this. One of the main toilets clogged around noon-time so we called Ray. She (can't remember her name) was extremely pleasant to speak with over the phone. The tech showed up within the hour (give or take); the main pipe was clogged which he took care of fairly quickly but then he also checked the cesspool and a few other things just to be thorough. Two thumbs up guys!

Work went o.k., one guy less than an hour, but already in the second winter after the fix we had another leak and in one of those sweated joints. Needless to say I felt the 430$ I paid for this service seemed excessive.

"I HAVE NEVER DONE ANY WORK FOR A THIS MEMBER! HE HAS THE WRONG PLUMBING COMPANY!! I Just called Angie's List and was assured that they would do an investigation into this review. All of us have searched all our files, records and our Quickbooks database for this member. We have no record. I googled that name in Stony Brook, looking for a phone number, but with no success. call me directly @ 631-581-2500. I would love to speak with you. RAY THE PLUMBER"

Called for a quote. They sent a guy out but never sent the quote. I called a week later and was told they were working on it. Two weeks after the original guy came, somebody else from the office called & asked if they could send somebody back out to the house to revisit the job. We had already chosen Dashing Dan's and wouldn't have given Ray the Plumber the work as who knew how long it would take for them to actually show up and do the job. Were very happy with Dashing Dan's.
Response from RAY THE PLUMBER INC

"Wow!...I am so sorry we did not make you happy. Hi, I am Ray The Plumber and I remember speaking with my tech Tom while he was at your house. You had just bought the house and you needed lots of work done...problem with finalizing your estimate that day was, according to Tom, you were not 100% sure of a few of the things that were on your "to do" list, and as Tom wrote on the bottom of your written estimate sheet, "I will go over this job with Ray and get back in touch with customer as the plans for the house are not set in stone yet". Tom did speak to me about your job and told me you were a new homeowner, and said you were a nice guy, and said a lot of things were up in the air in regards to what you wanted done. Maybe we were wrong and should have given you a price right then and there. I am sorry for making you wait. We did give you fast service though...you called at 11:34 AM on March 30 and I got Tom to your house that same day. We did place your estimate on our "hold" board, thinking we were waiting to hear from you regarding "concrete" plans, and then I did call you on 4/13 @10:54 AM and left you a message that we had your estimate on hold and would like to revisit with you if I could on Wednesday or Saturday. Six weeks later you are posting this review...and I understand. I do not blame you for not using us and I am sorry again for our "delay" in getting back to you. I did call you immediately when I saw this post today to apologize and I did express my surprise with this post (on your answering machine). We have become the #1 plumbing and heating service company here on Long Island because I really care about servicing every customer and making sure we do a good job making everyone happy. "It ain't easy" sometimes...but everyone here at RAY THE PLUMBER bends over backwards and tries their best. We service anywhere from 50-70 service calls daily from our East Islip location and have recently opened our Southampton office to handle the East End calls. No one gives the Fast Same Day Service that we do...No One!.....I have a great team and we have all worked together to create a great service system....estimates are another story. We still stink at some of them (obviously!). So in closing here, I am apologizing once again for not making you a happy customer. Can you please visit my website and respond to just let me know if you read this... and while you are there maybe you can visit my testimonial page. I have made thousands of long Islanders happy. This type of negative feedback and review really kind of beats me up a little. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to make it up to you. Thanks for listening... RAY THE PLUMBER P.S.- maybe you can also scroll down and read some of the happier Angie's List reviews!"

I am very satisfied with them. I was so happy with their work in the backyard that I had them come out and fix my plumbing in the front yard. The plumbing in the backyard cost me $375 and the other job cost me $330. The plumbing in the backyard started leaking. So, I called them back and they fixed the same for me. They are very nice. They will even tell you what you don’t need done. They will tell you easier ways to do things, so that you can save money. They discuss things with you. I will hire them again in the future, as I now consider them to be my plumbers.

I called in the morning and was called back at work within 15 minutes. The dispatcher was very pleasant and worked with me to firm up a time when the work could be done and I could lose minimal time from work. When my job was next, I was called so I could get home in time. Of course, my boss knew of this in advance. I was quoted a reasonable "dispatch fee" (i.e., quote fee) and the job was quoted before it was started. I hate professional people who charge a too high quote fee so that you are pressured to use them to keep from losing a good chunk of money with no work done. The plumber was friendly, professional and easy to work with. For the quoted price, he not only put in a soldered copper tee (before it was a small tee with a compression fitting) but a new valve so shutoff would be easy for future work. The work was good, looked nice, was fast and clean. I've had a lot of plumbing done over the years and have seen plumbers that did indifferent work, work that looked jury-rigged, and even one who did really nice work but complained about plumbing and his clients the whole time. This was a small job, but I was well impressed on all counts. The professionalism and willingness to work with the customer's needs was the best.

I called Sunday afternoon at 4pm for my leak and told them it WASN'T an emergency and could wait until Monday. i had a callback within the hour stating time they'd be at my house on Monday and explaining the service charge etc. They called me Monday when they were on their way. They arrived and were professional and explained everything. The service charge was applied to the work. They were clean and neat and cleaned up everything. I FOUND A GREAT PLUMBER...HOORAY!!! I will definately recommend Ray the Plumber.

I literally called the answering service 6:30am-received a call from the plumber 6:35am. Tom came to my house earlier than anticipated and was thorough in his examination of the boiler and hot water heater. He was up front and honest in letting me know that I may not have to replace hot water heater parts and luckily that was the case..He was extremely polite, professional and efficient. I am grateful for their professional service, and will use them again.

The worker came back once again. He fiddled around with the pipes before leaving for the day. I requested him to fill the tub at least halfway to be sure the problem was corrected. Once again, there were problems with the hot water. The worker then called Ray privately. He told me the problem was due to the coil, which needed to be cleaned. I contacted my oil company to have this corrected and they let me know it was not something they could handle. I called two companies recommended to me and decided I would go with whichever would come the quickest. I had a company out to clean the coil, with a cost of $100. After spending that money, I STILL was not able to have a warm bath. I called Ray's back and they again sent the worker out. When I was on the phone with them, I was told that I need to "do something about my attitude" and should not be calling them this often. After the worker sent out was done for the day, I asked that he again fill at least 1/2 the tub with warm water, which he was unable to do. The worker then again called Ray privately. The worker told me that accordingly to Ray, the worker was to leave my home and that I needed to buy a brand new coil. I called my oil company to ask them about getting a new coil. They sent out a worker who drudged through the snow to help me out. The worker from the oil company told me that Ray's had done something wrong with the pipes(I'm still not exactly sure, possible something to do with the water pressure). He was able to fix my problem! I called Ray's to let them know and left a message with the very nice office girl (Renee) to let them know the problem had been fixed. I received a call back and they wanted to know what the problem was. They came out for the last visit to give me the new faucet to replace defective one. That was the last contact I had contact with them. I did everything Ray told me to do and spent unnecessary money.

He is really good and I have recommended him to others. He did all the work that I told him to do and no job was small for him. He was on time, the quality of his work was good and everything that he has repaired is working beautifully. He was very professional and once he called me to tell that he couldn't come as he had an emergency.

"mike" arrived during the time period promised. He gave us an estimate job cost and then had to add for a new drain on the sink because he could not use the one from the old (same model) sink. The job was completed in approx 2 1/2 hours. We were given a senior discount of $50 and are happy with the results of the work.

Responded quickly, gave estimate and senior discount as stated in ad. Had some difficulty replacing drains which came along with a kit I purchased, plumber said these plastic drains do not seal well. Tub spout was leaking after installed. Ray sent another plumber the next day and at his own cost replaced the plastic drains with proper brass drain and a better quality tub faucet at no extra charge. A person of integrity is hard to come by these days. Thanks Ray and thanks to both plumbers who worked in my home.

EXCELLENT! An associate of Ray's showed up at my home on the day requested and within the time span promised. He was fast, replacing the entire workings of both toilets and replacing the cartridge on my shower faucet, which included a trip to the plumbing store for my "out of the ordinary" shower cartridge, was extremely courteous and friendly and most importantly, he was an exceptionally nice man and my toilets and shower now work like charms. Having been on a recent streak of hiring very unreliable and not-so-nice contractors, I was expecting the same from Ray's, just out of habit. I am glad to report that I was pleasantly surprised by the work done by Ray's. This contractor would get an A++ rating if possible.
