Franzoso scheduled the roofing job for the middle of December, gambling that the temperatures would allow proper installation of flat roofing. They started on time, but freezing temperatures halted work and forced them to add another layer of underlayment board on the flat roof over the kitchen when they restarted a day later. They worked into Saturday to finish. They cleaned up after themselves, but I had to spend 4 hours Sunday going over the gravel driveway and lawn for nails to remove the risk of tire puncture or lawnmower accidents. I complained Monday and they immediately sent the gang foreman over to cleanup. We finished cleanup with the help of a magnetic sweep in the morning. When they were installing flashing in the juncture between two separate roofs, they drove two nails into the master bedroom, so they compensated for this by reducing the charge by $125. Overall, they did an excellent job. The house's appearance was vastly improved and 7 months later we have not seen a leak. The gutter drain placement was improved by their installer. We called Franzoso later because the gutters were not catching all of the roof drippage because they were not completely under the roof edge. They immediately sent two people over to bolster the securing of the gutters to the roof. We would have tipped the roofers because of our admiration of their determination to work despite the weather, but there was a cleanup problem. We did tip the gutter installers.
Description of Work: Franzoso removed 3 layers of old, worn, and leaking roofing from the whole house and replaced the rotten wood underneath with 7 sheets of plywood. They installed 30-yr. GAF Timberline shingles and EPDM roofing in the low-slope areas of the roof. They replaced three gutters. They added knotty cedar board to the fascias and rake areas for aesthetic reasons.

I contacted the Company and they promptly got back to me. My sale rep Richard was exactly on time and provide detailed feedback on what needed to be done, which was consistent with my expectations based upon other estimates that I had received. Pete at the office then led all of the scheduling and actually was able to move my work date up. Because of inclement weather (you cant put on a new roof and gutters in the rain), the project was delayed one day, but Pete promptly called us that morning and provided us with an update. The next day, the team, led by Pablo, arrived exactly on time and when they were done with their work at the end of that day, our home was left spotless. I had a couple of questions and out project manager, Jacob, who was also there that morning and the second day of the job as well, addressed them. I also had to call him with a question and he picked up and got back to me quickly with a follow-up. They returned the next day and because they were working with a large crew, finished our job one day ahead of schedule. Our gutters were hung, as scheduled two days later and Ronald and his team did another fantastic job. Of course, we need to continue to see how it holds up during the bad weather season, but they did everything that they said that they would do ahead of schedule and exactly on budget, so high ratings all around, which is consistent with their Angie's list rating and that of GAF, the maker of the Timberline shingles that we had put on.
Description of Work: We had a new Timberline HD roof with Weather Shield (all with warranty) put on our rougly 3500 square foot house. We also had our gutters and downspouts replaced.

They are great and a super company. I can't say enough of good things about them, their price, and workmanship and courtesy of the workers. The price was worth it and they were good. I would use them again without a doubt. I started with them without knowing anything about them. They came and gave me a decent price compared to the other ones. They were not the cheapest because I got a cheaper quote from another company and he said he would do the job in one day. I was not happy with that and so I went with Franzoso. It took them 5 days to do the job. No one told me that it would take less than 5 days. Whenever I complained about anything they went ahead without any argument and repaired and corrected that. They are just wonderful people.
Description of Work: I used the service of Franzoso Contracting to install a roof three weeks ago.

This is a very professional company. You have a team working for you on the project and each person knows his job very well and communicates well with the others. The start date was as planned and we were contacted prior to the work to confirm the date. The price was competitive with other similar companies. We did get one price that was way out of line, so that one was immediately eliminated. We chose Franzoso over a close competitor because we felt we were getting more for a bit less. For example, new gutter screens were included in the price of the siding, not extra as with the other company. Doing small extra things such as replacing a few outdoor light fixtures was not a problem. The crew cleaned up at the end of each day. They were very prompt, working from 8:00-5:00. Another thing that I really liked was that the crew worked all of the time except for their lunch break. No phone calls, no breaks to smoke, no hanging around doing nothing. We had one rainy day and they showed up to say that they would not be able to work that day. They made up that day on Saturday. Due to a previous addition on my house, there were several unusual angles to deal with and initially I was not happy with the appearance of the trimming in those corners. I brought this to the attention of the project manager and he and the crew brainstormed to figure out an acceptable solution. It turned out looking good and the crew learned a new technique that they to apply to other homes. The job went like clockwork from beginning to end. It took two weeks (10 days of work) to complete. The company pays attention to detail and the entire staff (onsite and phone) are polite and responsive.
Description of Work: I had the cedar shingles on my 1953 split replaced with vinyl siding. The shutters were also replaced.

They were great. The price charged by them was pretty reasonable and it was about $379 for everything. They were really good and very professional. It was done within an hour and a half. They came in a truck and they had everything on the truck. Overall, it was excellent and their price was excellent too. Their responsiveness was really good. They were really busy; so it took them about 20 days before they got here. However, when they got here, they got the job done the same day. They didn’t have to come back. They were respectful and the guys were really nice. It’s a quality company. Their boss is very responsible. There are some places that give you a run around, but Franzoso Contracting called me and I would use them again.
Description of Work: Franzoso Contracting did some repairs on my roof about three weeks ago. They also put shingles, a new vent and a roof cap too for the vents.

A representative from Fransozo came and reviewed the scope of the job with me very thoroughly. Their estimate for the job was very similar to two others from competitive companies. The one difference between them and the others was their assessment of a leak we were suddenly experiencing with the roof. They volunteered to do a simple caulking of a seam at no extra cost, but were clear that they were not sure that would be adequate in the future. I felt their honesty was refreshing and their willingness to try something simple at no cost was generous. They sent follow-up information, confirmed the custom color we chose for the gutters and stayed with the original estimate and showed up exactly when they promised. The workers who performed the work were polite, informative and made every effort to explain in detail what they were doing and why. Extremely satisfied with the job and the company.
Description of Work: Our old copper gutters and leaders had corroded in spots, detached from eaves and were leaking. Leaders were inadequate in places and had been placed in ground in very sloppy fashion. Franzoso removed and replaced all with custom color aluminum leaders & gutters. New leaders are larger and uniformed in size than old ones and they installed them with new in-ground connectors. Also, modest patching and sealing of seam in roof.

We needed a new roof on the back of our home. We called this company. Someone came out right away. They said they would remove the sky-light (due to leaking, also was told that the skylight was put in "wrong") flash and calk, then reinstall, take up/remove old shingles, place new plywood where needed, and cart away. From start to finish the project took two days. Not counting the day they returned to correct some flashing.
Description of Work: Replaced roof on Home addition. Did NOT remove flash and replace sky-light. They do not return phone calls. You have to keep calling and calling! Leaving messages w/ person and machine. Did not reduce bill for work not performed. Denied what work was scheduled as per agreement.

Member, I am totally taken back by your report and completely differ from your assessment. We completed our estimate of services which was turned into a contract upon your signature. We completed the job, as all of the jobs we do, to the best of our ability and the job came out perfect. We have never been asked to return to your home for a repair or to redo workmanship. We have documented 16 communications with you after the job was completed which was 3 weeks after commitment. It finally took a letter from me initiating a small claims court lien in December for you to pay us. Your poor assessment of my company I feel was injust. It is tough to stay in business when you offer to do a job for a homeowner with no money down and expecting payment upon completion. Advantage was taken of our policy. I am always available to you and to all of my customers if there is ever a problem or misunderstanding. Mark Franzoso

There work crew was great. The foreman introduced himself when they started and kept me informed since it was a multiple day job. The crew was hard working and polite...cleaned up after themselves at lunch and left the area looking great at the end of each day. Customer service and follow up were fantastic. The final product and knowing that Franzoso stands behind their work make it well worth the money. We'll definitely use them again.

I contacted Franzoso for an estimate via their website and received a call back the next day. My estimate was with Mike. He called to ask if he could earlier which I was happy to accommodate and spent a good deal of time reviewing my project and the products he was offering. He was very knowledgeable. However, I was put off by a few things during our meeting. When I mentioned I had done research on Angie's List, he said the Better Business Bureau or my local town's building department were better sources for information about contractors, that Angie's List had not been around as long. I was surprised at this response as all the other contractors I had met with had nothing but good things to say about Angie's List. He also seemed to have a slight negativity towards another contractor I mentioned I had met with. He suggested an overall energy evaluation of my home, which could result in additional savings, which I did think was a good idea. However, when he asked about the basement windows and other areas in the home where I might be losing heat, and I told him I was just interested in upstairs for now, he pushed a little about me doing work beyond that. He was the only contractor that seemed to try to push me into additional work on my home. Overall, his roof price was good and I was offered quality products. HIs window option was also a good one, but the price was the highest I received for any windows. And I did receive estimates on windows that were equally or more energy efficient in comparisons on the NFRC site. When I told him his price was higher than others, he said that those estimates weren't for this window. There didn't seem to be any room for negotiation. Franzoso has been around for a long time and I believe they would have done a good job. But overall I was left with not a great feeling. And they were also one of the highest estimates I received.

Member, Thank you for taking the time to post such a thoughtful comment about your experience with my company. Although we hope each one of our consultants will give that great customer experience we do understand each experience can be different. We do work as a team and I am sorry that we missed following up with you to review how the appoitment and estimate had met your expectations. Michael has been in the business for a very long time and holds numerous certifications for energy efficiency in addition to exterior home improvement, so I understand his passion about looking beyond the immediate scope of your request. We hold frequent reviews for the purpose of improving our efforts. We will be sure to use your example as one that we can learn from. Regarding pricing; we use products whose performance meet and often exceed that of their competitors but we also look for products whose warranty, features and customer service Exceeds competitors. We offer a Lifetime Workmanship Warranty on all products we install and have been honoring that for over 32 years. On Angie's List ratings, you will note we often receive a "B" for price but customers choose to use us because they know the overall value is better than other contractors. If you should have any future projects you are considering, I hope you call me personally. Mark Franzoso

I was well satisfied with their work. They were good in cleaning up. There were putting the cap of the chimney at the same time they were doing the roof. They told me where to go and buy it so that I could save money. They recommended some shingles and installed. They also installed new gutters and pulled down the old gutters. I would use them in the future.

Member, Thank you for reporting we fixed the problem you had on your roof. Your posting states we intalled it in 2007, but in accessing our records we couldn't find your roof project at that time. We do keep very careful records and see that in May of 2011 we replaced a casement window mechanism from a window we installed for you in 2002. This was under warranty and there was no labor or material charge to you. We also see installed a roof for you in 1994 and you called us on January 9th, 2006 regarding a leak which you had which you thought was from your roof. We went out the next day, January 10th, and discovered the leak was not from the roof but was from the chimney. We fixed the problem by sealng the chimney and did not charge you for our work because we value you as a customer. Thank you again for your posting, even though I would have appreciated "A." Called to schedule a gutter cleaning a few days ago. Left a message with secretary but got no callback. Sent an email yesterday and got a response and callback immediately. Last year I paid them $175 for gutter cleaning (about $25 more than their competitors quoted but they are very professional in all the past times I dealt with them so I figured it's worth it). I was expecting to pay about the same this year but my jaw dropped when I heard a quote of $325 for this year's cleaning. This is almost DOUBLE last year's price. Thought I misheard. Was explained that because of fuel costs, insurance, etc. the price is almost double this year. Was speechless... Every one of their competitors' prices went down or stayed the same this year so what gives? Are they just trying to blow me off by showing me a RIDICULOUS price for cleaning gutters on a small home? Was very disappointed. They have provided excellent service in the past to me and this review is just based on the gutter cleaning quote that I was given.

Member: Yes unfortunately we had to raise our prices for many of the smaller jobs due to the rising costs of liability, auto and workers comp insurance and fuel. I explained this in my email to you dated May 19, 2011. I'm sorry you felt obligated to write this very one sided review because we had a large price increase for smaller jobs. I am also extremely surprised you failed to mention in your review the superior service and attention we gave you last year when we cleaned your gutters and repaired siding and at your request (and our pleasure) came back 3 times at no additional charge to check on concerns which you had. I have the emails proving your satisfaction and thanking us for our service. We always stand behind our work and have appreciated your business. I just felt your report was one sided and misleading. I had an accepted offer on my house but was not in contract yet when I contacted them. I wanted to get a rough estimate for replacing the roof shingles, gut renovations of the kitchen and bathrooms, as well as redoing the basement, and the asphalt driveway. The woman I spoke to (receptionist or assistant of some sort) was very rude and abrupt with me. She wouldn't even connect me with an actual contractor or salesman. She told me that I would be charged a $225 fee just to look at the roof not including the kitchen, bathrooms, etc. She said that they can't go running around wasting their time looking at everyone's potential house. (this house was less than a mile away from their office by the way). She went on for about five minutes detailing how busy they were (yeah right, in this economy...) and they don't really have time. If they are so busy, why is she taking the time to chew my ear off??? This woman really made me feel like a moron. Wow, I will never use them or recommend them to anyone. Please stay away from these people. Apparently they are too busy for anyone to bother them anyway. I proceeded to call many of their competitors and was able to get quotes for everything from all of them. Now that I am in contract, I will make sure to contact one of the companies that was happy to give me an estimate.

Member, Although I appreciate reading everyone's comments to help better service my customers, I feel your comments need to be responded to in a little different tone than I would normally. The request you made was handled in the proper manner. When the person requesting the estimate is not in fact the Homeowner, we do charge for the estimate. What you failed to mention in your report to Angie's List is that if you proceed with the purchase and hire Franzoso Contracting, we reimburse in full the estimate charged. I personally do not think it is out of line to charge for estimates when the person making the request is not the homeowner. To that you asked for a laundry list of projects that would have taken days to figure out. If there is anyone on this planet that would spend the time to fulfill your request as a non-homeowner, then Bravo to them. If in fact you read all of the reports for my company, you will see that the only ones with negative reviews are the folks that never hired us .We hold a 94 % customer satisfaction rating in an industry whose average CSR is 52%. To close, as a now local resident of Croton, talk to your friends and neighbors about me and my company to get a true sense of who we are. Mark Franzoso

Overall they did a good job on my parent's house. I wish I was able to check in on their work while they did it. I would have caught some mistakes by the workers. I had to take points off for the quality of the flashing around the chimney and skylight. The chimney flashing looks like it was soldered by an amateur. The step flashing on the skylight was not "stepped" with the new roof as it should be, thus creating gaps. The original roof had metal valley flashing, which was removed and replaced with a "weaved" shingle technique. They should have asked if we wanted to preserve the valley flashing method since we requested replacing "all" flashing with copper. I believe the copper valley flashing would be more durable since weaved shingles tend to crack as they age and get brittle. Their response was that the roof deck liner would catch any moisture if that happens (Huh?).
Description of Work: New roof using Certainteed Solaris shingles. Replace all flashing with copper. Preserve gutters. New flashing on chimney. Preserve skylight flashing, align with new roof. New flashing for dormers.

I ended up buying some of the things on my own. It was a tricky job because they had to do the remodeling of the bathroom before our second child's birth. We went to them quite late anticipating that we would do it. I didn't know if that was possible because getting the contractor and making them to get the work done quickly was difficult. But they came out and said they will get everything done by end of the year or close to it. They emailed the details and that helped us a lot because we had real time to make the discussions and decisions. That was a real plus point. They were very courteous and professional. Everyday they would clean up as if no one was there doing any work. They did everything and it was really a professional job. They were also jacking my job with others but they never delayed the project. One of the suppliers of the fixtures made a big mistake on the medicine cabinets. We had ordered the wrong one's and weren't able to change them because it couldn't be done overnight. They had a hand full of resources and contacted one of the suppliers and ordered the product. They were really well connected with the suppliers. They were able to solve the problem. They were responsible and proactive. They have resources available to make the job come out. It was a great experience and I was very much pleased with them.

Description of Work: They did our overall gut renovation. They were the primary contractor on a 1920's house. They did everything. They had to rebuild an extension on the house. They do all of the wood work trim. They did all of the Sheetrock installation. They did the kitchen installation. They redid the wood floors. The rebuilt our front porch. They did the bathroom installation.

We were so fortunate to have such delightful customers and while the delays were exacerbated by the weather, it also gave us all time to reevaluate choices and decisions being made. In retrospect, it appears that we did satisfy our customers goals and of course we do apolgize for any inconveniences.

They were okay. The work was finished but one of the finishing pieces were not right. They gave us a little bit of runaround and we had to go to the manufacturer. We had to involve the manufacturer to redo that work and that was turning out to be a long process. Eventually it was fixed. They also gave me a quote for roofing and their quote was way too high. They are a little disorganized but by the end the work was done.
Description of Work: I used Franzoso Contracting to replace the windows two years ago.

In looking back at our records it appears that the exterior issue could have been resolved on the day of installation by our mechanic but the services of a factory rep were requested instead. While this was certainly another way to handle the concerns, it did in fact add to the time needed to complete the work. We are sorry that this took as long as it did; we had to work within the confines of everyone's schedules and, again, our apologies for the delays.

Although we were very concerned about the cost (we had other estimates, the highest among them slightly more than half of Franzoso's), we just didn't get the feeling from the others that they would have the thinking we needed (the ability to diagnose problems in real time and alert us to the issue) along with the attention to detail and quality we desperately wanted for this kind of money. From the first we were convinced of Franzoso's professionalism and quality. Glenn the sales person came with a van filled with samples and literature. He was articulate and very knowledgeable, and spent an entire morning walking through the house, explaining and observing - in the end we pulled up chairs in our driveway to the back of his open van as he talked about his rough estimate and began to show us the differences in the windows and siding - complete with miniature examples, swatch cards and actual samples. Other estimators for other firms left us with little, including final handwritten estimates with factual errors. As we reflected on the other estimates and considered Franzoso, the difference in approaches was very persuasive. As we asked questions via email and phone, as the contract got written up and sent to us, they responded to all our questions patiently and actively, altering the contract twice to clarify language, correct small inconsistencies and our own changing decisions. Once we took the plunge, Tino the window guy came first to measure - he was professional, thorough and friendly, and he took the time to describe the front porch window challenge and possible solutions. The windows came in to Franzoso within 30 days, and then the actual work started. Tino and his crew worked for three days (mostly on the porch) and I could tell they knew what they were doing and worked carefully with attention to detail. Since I planned to finish the inside of the porch window work, he took the time to go over trim solutions. Thoroughly professional and highly skilled. Within a week of the window installation the siding crew came. Henry and his men worked non-stop from 8:30 until dark, including Saturday. Although some of the crew changed from day to day, a core set of 3 guys and Henry took the job all the way through. I made a list of my concerns for Henry and left it with him - he was responsive and sensitive. My wife and I were gone most of the day - and we never had a concern. Henry spoke English, but the other men spoke little, but there was never a communications issue. I'd check with him every morning and evening. One Saturday there was a problem that cropped up - just a mistake in the different colored trim (brown on one of the peaks) that we noticed after everyone left - and we called in a message to Glenn about it - we were reluctant because we had nothing but high praise for the crew and the work so far - and Glenn got back to us within 12 hours (he called early Sunday morning). That glitch was rectified on Monday and work went on. There were numerous other issues large and small that the crew responded to - door trim that was rotten and needed to be replaced, etc - and they remembered everything. Luis Franzoso, an upper level manager, introduced himself on the first day and kept in touch, at one point leaving his cell phone number with me in case I had a concern about anything. Even the gutter guy was knowledgeable and thorough, making improvements on existing design and configuration. An issue with support for the porch came up - and Franzoso responded with a quick solution (cement footer and permanent support) that solved a problem unrelated to siding/windows. You get what you pay for. Although this is the biggest investment we've ever made (besides our mortgage) we couldn't be happier with the quality of the materials, the workers, the administration and management. Though costly, the house looks great and we are extremely happy.
Description of Work: 15 Replacement windows, new vinyl siding, new gutters/drainpipes for house and garage. The house had aluminum siding installed in the 1960's, and the windows we believe were original. We've lived in the house over 30 years and have realized as we did work on it ourselves over the years that the unique original construction along with later inexpensive siding work was a challenge for the company doing the windows and siding. We decided to do both at once, since the exterior finish on the windows (and cost) would be mitigated by the siding coming right after. Once the old metal siding was off there were issues that came to light - corners out of plumb, eaves that needed modifying to accommodate current siding practice, and the treatment of a blind doorway and windows that needed removal. We sought a company that needed to recognize issues as work progressed, who would be responsive to the need for modifications and who communicated well with us as decisions needed to be made during the work. We decided on the less expensive of the replacement window designs that Glenn the salesperson showed us (less robust locks and no internal insulation), and a middle level siding gauge (the least seemed too flimsy, the most expensive incorporated molded styrofoam under-construction that would make for a much more rigid siding). There were 15 new windows installed, one a half-size for a bathroom with a privacy frost. Franzoso also replaced multiple storm windows that wrapped around the old porch (originally open) with horizontal sliding windows - and that was a challenge because that front porch was pitched downward rather dramatically and the new sliders need to wrap around at the same level. We ordered two colors of siding, lighter for the body of the house and garage, and a darker shade for the 3 "peaks", which was a visual feature of the aluminum sided house that we wanted to keep. We also (after much debate) decided to go with longer - more expensive - lengths of vinyl siding (25' as opposed to 16') to minimize the seams on the side of the house (there would be more if shorter lengths were used). There was additional carpentry that came with the siding - work on the eaves so that proper siding and trim could be installed, straightening of verticals, etc. The whole package came with new gutters/drainpipes, which are the heaviest gauge and largest diameter I've ever seen - and the gutter guy (who came last) devised additional drain pipes and configurations that he explained to us (he had photographs of the previous configuration).
