During installation, while removing the old roof they also removed an installed electric exhaust fan in the attic space. They cut the power to the fan and in doing so also cut all power to my ceiling fans in the bedrooms upstairs. When I called to complain, they said they were and quot;not electriciansand quot; and obviously things were not installed correctly by the original person putting in the ceiling fans, and I would have to fix it myself. (If you are not an electrician, why would you cut live wires?) I asked if they could recommend an electrician, as I didn't know of one and they recommended Wire Electric, who came out and fixed the problem. Cost - $300.00. The Wire Electric electrician pointed out that the person who cut the live wire left me with a and quot;potential fire hazard, leaving a live wire laying on the attic floorand quot;. Wire Electric also told me everything was up to Code and all the fans were installed correctly and if I needed him, he would tell Stockmor . Wire Electric takes before and after pictures. Stockmohr DID refund the $300.00 to me after I told them this.
Also, during installation of the new roof, I was told that the brick chimney (which houses a wood stove) had pulled away from the house and that was the cause of the leak (another main reason why I called for a new roof). The roofer assured me that the problem was noted, and fixed and it would not happen any more. The very next rain, it leaked again, and I called them out and was told he and quot;caulked a small spot that was missed.and quot; That lasted about a year, and leak continued. When they came out this time, they told me it was the chimney not the roof and that the roofer who told me this originally, was out on disability for some time. Consequently, I had the chimney repointed, a new crown put on and sealed, and to this day it STILL leaks in the same place as originally noted before the roof was installed!
In March of 2012, we had a wind storm and I lost some shingles. I called Stockmohr and was told my roof was not covered for 60 mph winds which were recorded in my area and to repair the roof would be $97.00. I relayed to him that I was still in the 5 year warranty and it should be covered. He told me to read my contract and sure enough in small print was the and quot;60 mphand quot; clause. This was NEVER brought up during the sales pitch, just that were and quot;less expensiveand quot; than other companies. I KNOW we get high winds here and would have gladly gone to another level of roof. I did have them come out and they replaced 2 shingles for $97.00. Fortunately I kept a box of shingles at the time of installation or that would have been more.
"There are several questions raised by the member. I will try to address them individually. 1. Prior to us installing the roof, our installers noticed that the brick chimney had pulled away from the structure of the home. We informed the member of the situation, but we did not think that it would cause her chimney to leak. We did reflash the chimney with aluminum where it meets the roof. If the member is concerned with this situation, I recommend that she hire a mason to attach a steel anchor in order to pull the chimney back into place. 2. The member is upset about the shingle she had us install for her. In her estimate, the member was offered five different types of shingle options. Stockmohr offers a good, better, best system to meet the varying needs of our diverse customer base. The member chose the "good" shingle option, which happened to be the most affordable shingle offering. The member striked out and initialed next to the four options she was not interested in. 3. We did remove an exhaust fan for the member. Upon cutting the wires, we tripped a circuit. I did inform her to contact a licensed, trained electrician to address the situation. We refunded her in full for this cost. 4. Her chimney leaks. In 2010 a call was placed to our office about a chimney leak. We sent a technician out to inspect the chimney. We did not find anything wrong with the flashing. After receiving another complaint (October 2012), I agreed to reflash the chimney at no charge to the customer. This work has been completed. No signs of a leak were found during the reflashing of the chimney. 5. Shingle Warranty. In 2008 there were numerous shingle options available to our customers. We offered the member several choices and she chose the most affordable shingle we had available. This shingle came with a manufacturer's wind-warranty for 5 years, up to 60 mph. Stockmohr also provides a 5-year workmanship warranty in addition to the manufacturer's warranty. In the spring of 2012 we experienced winds in excess of 60 mph. which resulted in a shingle blow-off on the member's roof. The member called Stockmohr to notify us of the wind damage at which point we informed her that there would be a service charge of $97.88 to repair the damages because the winds were in excess of the manufacturer's warranty. The member agreed to this charge and the repair was completed. As always, the member paid us promptly for the services rendered. In conclusion, I am saddened that I have been unable to completely satisfy the member. The Stockmohr Company and our employees work very hard to resolve all concerns. Our company has an outstanding reputation that is confirmed by the BBB, Angies List, and thousands of your friends, neighbors, and co-workers that have decided to do business with Stockmohr. If any of our customers or potential customers have questions or concerns I invite them to contact me directly: Doug Mohr, Vice President and Co-Owner ph.#(716)741-9636 ext.129"
Turns out that their quote was 'no bid.' I had some uncommon features on my roof and they didn't have anyone certified in the techniques needed so they didn't want to take the job. I was disappointed because they would have been one of my top choices from the four or five quotes I received.
I can't vouch for their work at this point but I would definitely consider them for other work.
The installation crew probably spends more time installing the interior and exterior trim than it takes to remove and replace the windows themselves, but the attention to detail is appreciated. The interior trimwork looks beautiful, and the exterior work includes detail work in the aluminum bending that I never expected. I witnessed the installation and was very happy with all the work that gets hidden by the final product - spray foam insulation, caulking behind the trim work, etc . Stockmohr's installers do not take shortcuts.
This is the sixth project that we've used Stockmohr for over two houses - once for siding, once for roofing, twice for gutters, and twice for windows. I have yet to find a reason to go with another contractor for any of these services.
My only criticism is that they will no longer allow you to charge the full amount of an expensive project to a credit card without an additional fee. You can pay a certain portion fee free, and then have to pay with cash/check. This was not the policy the previous time we used them, so this condition may vary over time.
"When a customer asks we will offer our opinion on color. However, it is completely up to our customers to choose the color of their own roof. It does not cost Stockmohr any extra for gray or black shingles and we do not "stock" shingles. Occasionally, a manufacturer will have a promotion on a particular product but that would not affect the regular price. I cannot remember why our carpenter would have been unavailable at that time (2008) but injuries, unemployment, and personal time off for our employees can happen...especially during off-peak season. If we are unable to bid a project at a particular time, we would rather be honest with you about the situation so you can find another contractor that can take care of you in a timely fashion. I apologize for being unable to bid the second portion of your project but it sounds like the original project went well. Perhaps we would be able to work with you again in the future."
"Our records show an estimate given to the member on Nov. 20,2004. This negative rating was entered onto Angie's List on Aug. 21, 2010. No estimate was given on May 10, 2008. Is it possible you have us confused with another company? Twenty seven months did go by between 5/10/08 and 8/21/10. I find it (almost) impossible to believe you harbor such resentmemt you waited almost six years to write a complaint. But, if you did........WOW! Lastly, as I look over your estimate, I find we quoted knockout installation or "new construction" installation. This method of installation removes the entire old window (frame & sashes) to the original stud opening- giving you a larger window, more glass & light, all new interior wood trim and insulation. I'll bet dollars to donuts, if you did replace these windows, they are installed as "replacements" inserted into the 50+ year old frames with quarter round stops on the interior. This is a substantially lower cost installation. If so, you got what you paid for. Curtis Mohr, Owner 8/31/2011"
