So far it is working. It seemed a little expensive at the time but everything it rains, we get the leaves and gunk out of the filter so it is clean. In the long run, it is not expensive. He was very responsive and timely. It was not an emergency situation so we scheduled an appointment within a reasonable time. He came when he said and did what he had to do. So far it is working.

Bob Sessa arrived on schedule to look at my shower diverter which wasn't working properly. He checked all of the components which turned out to be good. He had to make some adjustments to the shower system. This solved the problem and now everything is working fine. I've used his services in the past and would definitely use him for any future plumbing problems.

Went well. I appreciated fact that plumber was able to convincingly make a case not to replace shower diverter (I live in a co-op and one of the units in my line had a defective one resulting in a long wait for hot water to flow) to the co-op's super. That saved me a bundle!  The remaining work was a little pricey but worth it.
Plumber actually arrived early and was very professional, quick and efficient.

Robert Sessa Plumbing admitted to me that he overcharges. He lives in my area. I had him come out because I had a leak in the basement, which I think I still have. He didn't say anything, he just went ahead and did things. He didn't have me choose a toilet or anything like that. I think this was an extraordinary amount of money just to put in a toilet. I asked him and he said I know, I charge more than I should. I thought that was incredible that he would admit to me that he overcharges. He didn't tell me he'd fixed the leak and I still have water. I called him for the leak and he told me it was in the toilet and I took him at his word because I trusted him to do that. I called him back because the refilling of the tank was making a noise, which means it is using water. He came back and now you don't hear the noise. That cost me $500 on the water bill which is why I had him back. I know how to fix it with the old toilet, but I didn't know what to do for the new one.

He is a little bit pricey but he is so thorough, so amazing and so worth the money. He is really awesome. He is really clean. He puts on these covers on his shoes when he walks in. It's really sweet.  He gave all the quotes and gave us a good suggestion of how we should go about doing everything. If we couldn't afford it, he gave us options and what to do next. He really is quite amazing. He is also told us how to be able to break it down. For any of his work, it may sound like it is a little bit more expensive but it is completely worth it. His ideals of renovation and at home stuff are aligned with ours. I think we are trying to look for longevity and he has this guarantees. He stands by his work that it is going to last a long time and he will come back if we have any problems in three or five years with the work that he has done. It was actually through his recommendations and explanations of how things could be more up-to-date, efficient and have less problems. It is also a learning experience with him. I can't ask for anything more from a plumber. He is thorough when he can. If you call him, a receptionist will pick up and will answer all the questions that she can. I think that he does a lot of the actual assessments when he is on site so it is sometimes hard to get to him immediately but his receptionist is more than knowledgeable to at least the concerns of any customer. And, he gets back as soon as he can. If it is a busy season, he may take a little bit because I think he just wants to be thorough on all of his jobs. He is very apologetic when he actually does call.

I had no experience with hiring a plumber before this, but Bob was absolutely fantastic. Since I travel out of town frequently and couldn't schedule a visitation for him to diagnose the problems, I sent him some photos of the parts. He very patiently explained the problem with the push button diverter and laid out the potential costs vs. benefits of replacing just the part, which would have to be ordered because it is so rare , versus installing a new fitting, which would've lasted longer but would've required opening the wall and cost significantly more. I opted to go for the shorter-term fix due to cost concerns and because I needed to be able to use the shower right away. Bob was very flexible with scheduling a time and also very helpfully informed me that I should request insurance paperwork in the future for all repair work as required by the co-op board-- a detail I hadn't thought to check with my board. I would highly recommend Bob and call him again if I need other work done.

Since our bathroom was installed prior to 1974, our plumber wouldn't agree to come look at the problem unless we broke the bathroom floor and kitchen ceiling underneath to expose the pipes  prior to his coming.  He said, "$1,000.00 minimum" and my husband said "No way."  We then turned to Angie's List and found Robert Sessa.
Robert Sessa was great.  This all happened around the time of Hurricane Sandy and Robert was not able to come out right away (understandable considering the weather), but he was still attentive and asked if we could email him a picture of the tub and drain so he could have a visual to go with the description I gave on the phone.  As soon as the weather allowed, Robert came to the house and looked at the problem.  He agreed, old house - unique problems.  It would be difficult to get parts but he would fix it.
Robert came back on the day he promised.  He fixed the tub and put back the flooring when he was done. (He didn't break my kitchen ceiling.)  He cleaned up afterwards.  His work is excellent.
The cost was what had been agreed upon.  The cost was high, but considering the quality of the work, professionalism and respect you receive, the cost is very reasonable.
Robert is a craftsman with great integrity.  He has our thanks and recommendation.

Everything went extremely well. Bob promptly returned my initial phone call. He also promptly sends and returns any other necessary communications. He showed up on time, looked at the problem and then quoted me a price. Bob charges on a flat rate basis. I prefer this method, since you know exactly much the job will cost. It makes the decision to have the work done much easier. There is a $44.95 fee to look at the problem and quote a price. I feel this is reasonable compared to estimate prices charged by other plumbers that I considered. The fee is waived if either you have the work done or are an Angie's List member.
Bob reset a PVC drain pipe (which was probably not glued properly by the original contractor), replaced the waste offset pipe in the drain and ran an electric snake through to clear the clog. He then checked the entire drain line for leaks. The stove had to be moved to do this. He put casters under the stove legs so that the tile floor would not be damaged. He also replaced the sink sprayer assembly (customer provided this part).
Bob works professionally (he's calm, neat  and careful). I don't think that his prices are out of line compared to what the competitors charge .I got a knowledgeable, experienced plumber who performs repairs properly and guarantees his work. I would not hesitate to use his services again or to recommend him to family and friends.

My 1 bedroom apartment had an interior door that was sticking and was having trouble closing. I attempted to fix the situation myself I quickly realized that I was in over my head and quickly found myself on Angies List. After calling multiple contacts under the handyman tag I was having little luck as most of the people said they would not come out for "just an interior door" and to call back if I had more work. Robert was the exact opposite I called the company and spoke to a very nice woman who took my information down and told me I would receive a call from Mr. Sessa soon. I received a call no more than an hour after. I explained to him what I needed done and he said he would be more than happy to come out and look at the door. He asked right away where I had found his number and I told him Angies list. He then explained that the estimate would be free, because of my membership (Angies list pays for itself once again).

Mr. Sessa came on time to look at the door and told me what he felt needed to be done. He explained his hourly rate and how long he anticipated the job to take. I received an email with his quote attached to it and I decided to go ahead to have the work done. Mr. Sessa showed up promptly at 9am to do the work. He was friendly, professional, and clean. The job was done right and I couldn't be happier with the work he did.

I saw Bob's ad on Brownstoner and was pleased when I saw his flat hourly rate of $125 for basic handyman work. Since basic handymen have replaced faucets for me before - and since he did not say on his Web site that he has a different rate for faucets, even though his web site specifically mentions plumbing - I had him come to my apartment. I figured that his small trip fee (which you pay if you don't do the work he provides the estimate for) wouldn't end up applying. After all, the fee is refundable if you do the work, and I figured I would have him do the work since he seemed competent (I wasn't aware of the Angie's List coupon and should have looked it and the reviews up, alas). I told him about the faucet when I first talked to him on the phone, and he did not say anything then either about there being a separate rate for faucets.

He arrives, surveys the job and quotes me $300 for the faucet alone. I blanch. How long will it take? He hems and haws and won't estimate the time needed even though he's already looked at and underneath the sink and seen the hardware. Oh, and his faucet installation fee always starts at $300, he says. At this point, I'm sorely tempted to tell him to take a walk, but he knows that I know that I'll need to pay him his estimate fee and then start over from scratch with a bunch of flakey handymen who may or may not call me back. My faucet is busted, and I don't have any more time for this task, let alone another day to stay home from work dealing with it, so I give in. I imagine that most people do, and he must know this. The whole thing made me feel like a total rube.

But I can't resist asking him: Why not just say on your site (or on the phone, at least, when I tell you that this is a faucet job) that the minimum faucet price is $300? He has no good answer for this, probably because there is no good answer. The truth is that I wouldn't have even called had I known that $300 was the minimum.

The faucet work took 45 minutes. So I paid him over $6 a minute. That seems like an awful lot for a faucet installation. Yes, he is a (licensed, I think) plumber with lots of experience. He deserves a living wage. But $300 strikes me as just too much. So now you know what the deal is when you need faucet help from him, even if he doesn't and won't post this on his Web site. Are there other minimums he maintains and other services that his $125 hourly rate does not apply to? I have no idea. I'd ask if I were you.

The pluses were these: He called back quickly. The work seems good. He replaced my luggage wheels for "free," though that was after $50 to put up the shelf (a few new holes in a concrete block wall in essence) and $300 to do the faucet.

Bottom line, I ended up feeling taken advantage of, and I would not use him again. And within five minutes down below, I'm sure you'll hear his side of the story.

Response from Robert Sessa Plumbing

"I think the member needs to get some new reading glasses. If you scroll down the my pricing page beyond "basic handyman" work it specifically states all plumbing work will be quoted flat FLAT RATE only. The member also failed to mention he was an Angiest List member in which case the "service call charge" would have been free. When asked, he said he got me from the Brownstoner, I extend my complimentary service call charge to Angies List members only. He was quoted over the phone the standard service call charge of $39.95 plus tax and that I don't provide " free estimates". When presented with the numbers he baulked as do all the price shoppers who frequent Angies List and stated that he had no choice and that I had him a no win situation. I reminded him that he did have a choice which was to pay my service call charge and I'll be on my way. He was pleasent, the job when very well and their was no indication that he was the least bit unpleased and when I read this report I was to say the least perplexed. The member said his super would have done the job for $100.00, so the question is why did he put himself in this position of being "taken advantage of" member please! it never ceases to amaze me how consumers view people tha work with their hands, maybe he wanted me to pay him for the privilege of working for him. Any other venders who read this post should think twice about working for the member,"

Our building experienced a leak in one of the pipes which required immediate attention.  While Mr. Sessa was prompt and appeared professional during his analysis of the problem, we were surprised by the high estimate (~$1200) to fix the leak.  We inquired with another licensed contractor and were quoted a price of ~$450.

The issue has been resolved to our satisfaction and the contractor who completed the work was professional and prompt. Mr. Sessa also billed us over $400 for consultation and to provide a short term fix, which we also felt was unusually high.

Lastly, I want to mention that we received a bill for services from Mr. Sessa around 12/19/10, and we were not able to send out payment until 1/3/11.  However, in the interim, we received an email from Mr. Sessa threatening to 1) report us on Angie's list and 2) report "multiple violations" to the NYC Building Dept. because of the delay in payment.  In our opinion, a two week delay in payment certainly does not warrant this type of threatening communication (particularly via email and during the holidays, where delays in communication are the norm).
Response from Robert Sessa Plumbing

"The individual posting this report "IS NOT" the individual who called or I communicated with through the whole process. Angie's List has some serious explaining to do! They should police the members like they police the venders who advertise with them."

As I said I appreciated that Bob got back to me right away. He was also honest when I asked about doing the bathroom tiles, he recommended talking to the person who had installed them to see if there was still a guarantee. Bob guarantees his work for one year which I think is good. So he came back, free of charge, and fixed that drawer that kept falling out. Overall I'd say that he operates very professionally. Maybe it's worth paying more so that you have that guarantee. I didn't choose him to do the bathroom tiles, however, because I think that might get too expensive with him. But I would definitely call Bob for other jobs in the future.
Response from Robert Sessa Plumbing

"Thanks for the kind words, for the folks reading this report, the falling drawer was not the result of my installation. The shelving system was not like that of other quality systems I've Installed. Still, I happy to secure it in place for you!"

From initial contact through response and completion Mr Sessa was top-notch.

He replies in a timely fashion to your e-mail inquiries and takes a complete inventory of the work you would like done.A couple of days later we had a detailed contract and a proposed start date.

He was polite, courteous and very, very patient working around my elderly mother (who is notoriously difficult to work with or around!). This man is a saint, or rather, he should be nominated for sainthood.

I wish he worked in Manhattan because we need many small items addressed in our own home and, as many of you know, these "small" issues can really add up in determining our quality of life, or lack thereof!
Response from Robert Sessa Plumbing
