Pro Roofing and Home Improvement (Matthew) physically inspected my roof around March 24th and assured me that they can overlay my existing flat roof with Firestone APP160 roofing material and install related flashing material to resolve my roof leaking problems. After close inspection, Matthew explained that he could easily temporarily remove the copings located on each side of my roof and properly install the flashing material (a procedure that I really preferred). Matthew later provided an electronic estimate outlining all work to be done (totaling $4500), and I electronically agreed. I gave Matthew approximately half ($2100) down payment to start the work, with the balance to be paid upon completion. Matthew was consistently late to our appointments, however, I tried to be respectful of his excuses and work with him. After numerous missed promised starting dates (sometimes due to the weather, Matthew just didn't give an explanation), Matthew arrived to place the roofing materials and tools onto my roof on 4/9 at 3:30 pm. He then decided to start the work at this time and overlaid and sealed 2 and a half rows of the Firestone APP160 membrane material on my existing roof. At around 6 pm, he stated that he would return the following day (4/10) at around 8:30 am to finish the job. Matthew also mentioned that he could not remove the copings in order to properly complete the flashing work on one side of the roof (as promised per contract). I was disappointed, as this was important to me and was one of the reasons I chose Matthew to perform this job.
After Matthew left that evening on 4/9, I decided to physically inspect the work he started on my roof. I noticed that there were a number of footprint impressions on the membrane material he installed. As I understand, footprints and/or other impressions are not supposed to show on a Firestone APP160 flat roof install after the membrane is properly installed and sealed. According to my research, proper installation ensures a SMOOTH, watertight surface, and if footprints/impressions show, it could indicate that the membrane hasn't been properly installed or sealed, potentially leading to leaks and water damage. I became increasingly concerned and wanted to discuss this with Matthew on 4/10 when he arrived.
On 4/10 at around 8:37 am, Matthew sent a text message stating that he "hit some traffic, gonna be running late". Matthew then showed up at 3:30 pm that afternoon to retrieve some tools (ladder, torch, gas pressure container), stating that it was going to rain and he wanted to "tie some things down" in preparation. I asked Matthew about the numerous footprint impressions, and he stated that this was normal for torched flat roof installations and he could use heat to scrape and even them out if I preferred. (I understand this would weaken the membrane installation.) I also explained that I was severely inconvenienced waiting for him all day (for which I did not get an explanation, apology, or anything).
Overall, due to the CONSISTENT missed promised starting dates, my MAJOR concerns about the install Matthew started and, waiting ALL DAY (on 4/10) for Matthew to show up with no update as to why or when he was coming or not, I decided that it would best serve me and my family that we have someone else perform this roofing work. My roof is leaking, and it is expected to rain over the next few days.
