I want to start out by saying Hector presents himself as a very nice and sweet guy. His prices seem affordable when presented and he states he knows what he is doing and can get the job done. Instead, he sold us a pipe dream. In reality, the quality of work is comparable or worse than most DIYers, he leaves an absolute mess everywhere, does not place any protection down on existing flooring, and ends up milking you for more money, making his best asset of affordability a joke. We hired Hector to put up 2 frames for walls, drywall, install flooring in two small rooms, and some electrical work where wires already exist and just need to be moved. The quote was in 4 days, he would be done. Day one looked great. Day 2-3, he spent spackling ONLY. We had a gallon of spackle for him. We bought an additional 9 gallons for a few walls (absolutely terrible overuse). Spackle was all over our existing floor, and is still there. He used the window to exit and enter, damaging the frame. We provided garbage bags for him, however, he refused to use them. The side of our house still has a mound of debris that is hip level and about 10 yards in length, which included unused flooring we purchased (probably a good $200 of flooring in this pile of garbage). We then cut the job, telling him to not even install any electric in one of the two rooms (high hats and switch) and to never touch spackle again as it was already day 4 and not a single piece of the project was complete. No flooring done. 10+ gallons of spackle gone and my husband still needed to put 2 more coats on all of the walls using in total less than another gallon as they are called skim coats for a reason. So day 4 they did the flooring but did not finish the baseboards or baseboard heat covers. Also lied to us saying we didn’t have enough flooring to try and get an extra day of work for pay (stated above, they threw flooring out). They again, did not clean a thing. The guy also again took time to spackle instead of finishing the baseboards or maybe installing a handle on the door he already installed. Each day after the 3rd, these inefficiencies were brought up and instead of correcting them, he said he needs more money/time than originally quoted. It got to a point where we had other quotes and Hector’s price became higher than other contractors that quoted us for the full job and not day rates. Therefore, in the long run, Hector cost us more and provided less. In summary, sheetrock and outlets need to be redone as the holes are larger than the outlet/covers and are for toddlers. Significant gaps in the baseboard corners, yet, no spackle placed. Damage to our existing window frame. Damage to existing flooring. 2 light switches to control one rooms high hats need to be rewired. No electric in another room at all. Mound of garbage just left. Flooring thrown out. No sanding done (husband did that as well). Baseboards and heaters not done. No handles on doors. New flooring is already bowing in the middle of the room. He was paid for an extra day and for performing about 60% of the work. At the end, he promised to pick the garbage up on the side of the house. It has been 3 weeks. Not holding my breath. So, this is a “buyer beware” if you wish to go with him. He may quote you a good price, but at the end of the day, it is a lie.
